Ok so my kid starts school August 29th I figure $200 a month for spending money is a good number for pocket money. Please understand he has all his meals paid for and a school Visa that has $200 to spend at local pizza/chineese places in the town.
We also filled his fridge with all the shit he needed like drinks dorm food , his words not mine. 2 cases easy mac 1 case chef boyardi 2 cases of drinks water and some juice drink as well as granola bars and some other stuff . He calls after 2 weeks in and says he is out needs more, so we re up him with a similiar delivery.
He calls tonight to see if I will put more money in his account? I am not a cheap person by any stretch, but he has spent $350 and it's not even a month, thats not including the 2 food deliveries we sent him.
So OT am I being a cheap bastard or does my kid need a wake up call? I am afraid he may be the kid that can't say no to anyone.
Please spare me the blow and hookers shit I cover that for him !!!!!! -
Idk I blow through like 100-200 a week on random shit.
-
if hes on a meal plan then hes just blowng the money else where. i use about 500 a month for food, utilities and beer so 200 should be enough living in a dorm
-
Im currently in my third year at university. My first year I easily spent 500-600 a month. How old is your son? Old enough to drink?
Just 3 weeks into school ive already spent about 900 bucks. Money burns fast at school, I'd cut the kid a break, dont need to be adding to the stress of first year.
Cheers!

go up to 300 but tell him you want a complete account each month BEFORE shipping. tell him you will be deducting for any off the wall stupid shit. make sure that he agrees to recieve only 200 if he fails to account for his expenses.
most likely he is funding some freeloading kids that have stricter parents than we are. -
Cocaine is expensive
-
He is on a meal plan , plus the 200 for off campus food, so is it that expensive
for ber or is he buying every weekend for the room, he has 2 room mates?? -
lol he is obv spending it on booze/etc. you are not being a cheap bastard at all. I would have killed for 200 bucks a week. I lived on like 40 + food in college and still managed to have a great time
-
ya wtf? 200 a week after food and housing paid for?
-
This is what I am afraid of, he is buying for his room mates or the whole fucking suite.

He just turned 18 so I am afraid he is being taken to the cleaners by kids who don't
have cash. -

200 in pocket money.. 200 for off campus food.. and meal plan?
sheesh
$200 a month is not good enough for any college kid that goes out and parties.. like 0 chance -
lol gg reading comprehension. I could not figure out how people were saying 200 a week isn't enough. 200 a month is still enough IMO, but I live cheaply. for a kid new to college wanting to get drunk every night, its gonna be tough.
-
Ummm tell him to get a part time job?
-
He doesn't have a car and aside from beer what the hell else is there that's not covered

by the meal plan the $200 off campus food as well as his mom shopping twice a month? -
Fuck me that would explain alot all the food gone and the money. How the fuck could I be so dumb. Thanks meat
-
i think 200 is a little low but not really that low for someone not going to the bars and im assuming he is not because he is only 18. i know i was spending around 200-300 a month with my meal plan but i didnt have the $200 visa card to spend at local pizza places and shit. tell him to drink cheaper booze thats what college is for
-
i think 200 is fine, he just needs to learn to manage money and not buy shit for other people so much.
-
The given here is that it is not spent on food.
$200/mo is plenty for an 18 yr old. Seriously $50 a week with all food covered? Tell him that he needs to get a campus job at 10 hrs per week. THen after 1st semester if he is pulling a 3.5, tell him you will increase it to $300. Maybe he needs to study a little more?
