I was just prescribed Xanax and Zoloft for depression, social anxiety and addictive personality. Should I take both, one but not the other or neither?
The most medication I've ever been on is like 2 tylenol/year and I do not trust doctors whatsoever, so I'm very skeptical to take either. Problem is I've known that I have had all of the above conditions for years and have not been able to get over them on my own.
WUG OT? -
real doctors>>>> ot pseudo-doctors (except mupp ldo)
-
take a handful of each and wash them down with a large glass of vodka.

Im on the same exact medications. Only use the xanax when you go out in public, and feel uncomfortable. Zoloft, the antidepressant take everyday.

i took 2 different kinds of anti-depressants at the same time, didn't like the side effects, got prescribed a different kind, and still didn't appreciate what it was doing to me. So i tapered myself off them without telling anyone and a year later finally told my family I was off them.
They made me feel like a robot. I'd wake up and literally stare at the ceiling for 3 hrs in bed. Didn't want to get up, go to the beach, play vid games, watch tv, poker, sports, anything. I literally found myself staring at the guide on the tv or just my desktop background for hours. It was terrible. Felt like zombie.
Let alone the 6 or 7 other things that were horrible about them as well. I could get blackout drunk, and I did 22 days in a row on a bender (vegas, kentucky, myrtle beach, san francisco, vegas, my old university) and not be hungover. But there's times where you'd just break down as well. It's definately dangerous coming off them if you need to be on them.
I would just rather live without them than go on feeling how I did on them. Quality of life choice for me. -
did you get both scrips from the same doctor at the same time? Don't they tell you how many to take and how often?
-
Yes, the prescriptions are pretty much for what STANGAA said but I have heard many horror stories from both and combined with my absurdly addictive personality, am worried about taking any pills, basically.

I forget what my gf takes for her anxiety but I know she likes Xanex the best but only if she's in for the night. Not sure what her daily dose is called. She doesn't like the side effects either but if doesn't take them for a week or so she gets in real trouble regarding anxiety, depression even suicidal thoughts during really bad melt downs when not on them. I feel horrible when she gets like that so I beg her to deal with the side effects and just take her medicine which she usually does 95% of the time. It's a damned if you do and straight fucked if you don't sort of thing for her.
From my experience living with her I would obviously recommend you take them but I'm sure that situation is much different than yours. -
How the fuck do you not ask the doctor?
You really are messed up and should take whatever drugs they offer you in large quantities -
Drugs for an addictive personality? sigh

Stangaa got it right. My wife hated zoloft. If she had a glass of wine she felt like she had vertigo. She eventually switched to Prozac once a week. The xanax is only for big occasions when lots of people are around. -
It is definitely ok to take both at the same time. For depression, don't expect the Zoloft to work instantly. It takes about a month to get results but the side effects you'll notice immediately. The usual staring dose is about 25-50mg, hopefully the Dr started you off on that. Also take the Zoloft in eariler than later bc it can cause insomnia.
Take the Xanax as needed -
Xanax and an addictive personality are a recipe for disaster

it would seem that your pharmacist is the appropriate person to ask

I share your skepticism of doctors. I also have serious concerns over the long-term effects of heavy drugs like Xanax and Zoloft. If you're looking for alternatives, I would recommend checking out Tapping. You can Google it and find out more about it. I've had some success with it getting more sleep at night and for some other minor aches, pains, anger, depression, etc., etc. The link is http://www.tappingworldsummit.com

As for the depression, my g/f is a real big fan of Wendi Friesen, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. She has a DVD out called, "Depression Buster & Clear Bag," which basically is intended to help deal with depression through self-discovery.
I would let Xanax, Zoloft and the other pharmaceuticals be my last option.
Reason: Link was wrong. sorry. fixed. -
You don't know more than the doctor. Take what he tells you and then follow up with him about any side effects you're having.
