  1. This applies to many things but in my case more to a car. I found a car for sale that I want to buy. Dudes asking price is realistically not too high, but Im hoping to get it for less because of the economy (its a 30k car) and because I have cash.

What is the best way to get it for a lower price? Do I offer less than Im sure he will take and try to find somewhere in the middle? Lay it out there I have cash today, will you take x amount less?

Ive never purchased something this big on my own before, any help is appreciated.
  2. everyone's asking price has wiggle room, shoot him a number, he'll shoot a number in between, read him, you'll know what his bottomline is and then make your "last" offer and shake hands, gl sir.
  3. just show him your wad of hundos and say will you take XXXXX cash now if not walk away, he will call you back

    Reason: Money talks
  4. If it's a newer car, he prob. owes money on it still. Try and find out what he owes aka his bottom line. Then see if you can get a detter deal somewhere else.

Being educated is the best tool for negotiating.
  5. Everything I ever wanted to know in life I learned from watching Pawn stars.
  6. if it's an used car.

saying you have "cash" doesn't really make a difference.

    Everyone does.
  7. This link has the best info for buying a car imo...

Or the easiest way to get your wad of 100's jacked???
  9. It's a car, so don't fall in love with it. Make sure your able to walk away.

Tell him your price, give him your number and tell him to call you if he wants to do this deal.

By the way, what kind of car?
  10. Be very careful buying a car from a private party. Make sure you get a carfax and have it check out thoroughly by your mechanic before you buy it. If he has a problem with you taking it to your mechanic run the other way fast. Also, most auto repair shops keep all their records online or a database of some kind. Ask him where he had it serviced and get the records. 30k is a lot to spend on a car. Make sure it is what you think it is.
  11. cash = king...

make it rain and he has to bend...itz da rulez

Not exactly, like I said hes askin 30K so most people will look at the car before going through the process of getting a loan, and will often be denied.

  13. always do your research, shop around and be patient. Dont jump at the first car you see. Are you willing to travel to get it? sometimes that the best way. My friend just found an 04 m3 in denver ( i live in phx) he got a smoking deal on it (14k) it was in excellent condition, the only bad thing was it had 90k miles on it, to him it was worth it tho and he absolutely loves it.
  14. be ready to walk away... offer what significantly lower than what u think is fair... then give a little... but BE WILLING TO WALK AWAY!!!
  15. I wouldn't buy a used car for 30k. If you have that much cashe to spend go buy a new car or put the 30k down and get 0% financing for the rest. You can get some pretty nice cars new in that range.
  16. go buy a slightly less luxury car brand new straight cash homey
  17. It never ceases to amaze me how people are ok spending 30k on a car. Do you realize it is a car and does the same thing as a 10k car? Do you think other people really care about what kind of car you drive? I could understand how if your making 250k+ a year then 30k is nothing but then again if your making that much why would you be buying a used BMW anyways? I guess my bitterness comes from everybody in orange county driving their bmw's and mercedes but still living in little shitty apartments. 90% of those people are probably in so much debt they will live in an apartment the rest of their life. Save the money or invest it in an appreciating asset like a home, mutual funds, etc.... /RANT
  18. yo snooooger chill out bro
  19. lol dont hate on him for having the cash to buy it. It would be one thing if he was taking out a 25kloan on a used car but he has the money so go for it. M5s are nice, hopefully not the convertable, soft tops blow

I hear you, ive been looking for almost a year straight now. This one is in great condition, 35k miles. Obviously going to pay for an inspection before purchase as well.

What new car would you buy for 25-30k?

Splooooger, i hear you partly I would never shell out 60 k for a plain new 5 series. Thats why Im buying a used car with low miles for less than half the sticker price. Its not much different than a 10k car but ever since my last car got stolen Ive wanted to get back into something fun to drive with a manual trans. Def waste of money but even if I put on 10k a year for 4 years its still gonna be worth ~20k when I turn around and sell it to upgrade into something better.

Thats a sick car you'll love it and if you have the money fk it go for it! I bought a used Bimmer earlier this year too and its so much fun to drive so I can imagine a 05 M3 would be unreal.

Although I'm in construction equipment sales and do this kind of thing every day, this is the first thing I thought when I read OP. Pawn Stars is the shit. When I'm on the selling end, I know where I need to be to make money and sell it at a fair price to the customer.

Don't go in with a goal of talking him down a little. Do your homework and go in with a specific price that you're willing to pay. Negotiate your way to your price. Enjoy your new ride.
