Starting Sept 1st, Netflix prices to increase. "Streaming only" option remains the same @ $7.99/mos, while "Streaming plus 1 DVD out at a time"(which I have @ $9.99/mos) to increase to $15.98/mos- basically providing ala carte option vs just adding $2 to streaming, it looks like. Well, this obv sucks, as my queue is equally divided into streaming and DVD options.

I switched to streaming-only the last time those assholes raised their prices, which wasn't very long ago. switch to streaming-only and use red box imo.
-
Yup, pretty much this. Obv couldn't beat the $2 diff in adding DVD option @ current price. I'm notorious for racking up $10 fee/movie w/ Red Box tho
-
yea i might just cancel it.
when i got netflix i was pretty excited.
now few months later, theres like nothing left to watch. -

Yeah, it's that whole "must watch in X time-frame and return by Y time" part that fucks me over every time. Either I only pay a buck but maybe don't watch the DVD, or I watch it, 4 days later, for a total of like $5 by the time I return it. My solution? Netflix instant + illicit means (streaming, pirating, etc.) + buying the few DVDs I would rewatch -
Yea I insta downgraded to streaming only and will just rent from redbox now
-
just started my free trial the other day. was planning on saying fuck it and paying ten/month but will probably just cancel before the 30 days is up now if they are increasing by 60 percent.
-
Fucking redbox. I dont have a problem watching it the day I rent from them...I have a problem returning the damn thing. I sit it on the counter and say "got to go to redbox"...then later on that night I go "Its just a dollar, I'll go tomorrow. Next thing u know I owe 8 bucks for a movie that wasnt worth 3. Redbox needs a mail service....it costs me more in gas to drive the 10 miles to return the movie than its worth

I will probably still keep both for 16/month. Redbox fees would kill me, because i dont bring movies back in a timely manner. Its worth the 6 bucks to not have to leave the house, and obv for late fee reasons as well.
-
Meh this is one I actually don't mind considering how many people share PW's to steal the service. I live in TN so obviously I would never do such a thing.
-
holy shit, not this. I periodically have to force myself to stop adding to my list (queue sounds foreign and therefore gay).
I'm going to switch to streaming only. I only order like 2 movies a year off there anyway. I still don't understand how or why some movies are streaming and some aren't. I get that it's likely the decision of the studios, but I don't get why not making it available on instant is more beneficial. -
I'm pretty much over Netflix. Their instant watch selection is pretty limited and they even remove some movies from instant watch at times. I have a video store that has $1/week movie rentals for non-new releases and like $3/week for new releases. I'll just go there.
-
Wow, obscene price increase. I love Netflix, but fuck this shit imo
That said, I probably continue the service -
the price increase u are referring to was back in january im pretty sure.... just looked at my bills
-
just raised prices less than a yr ago and now its not a price raise they fkn doubled the price
sooooo gay, guess they are struggling in these tough times and dont have a stock price of $291 a share -
so ours is increasing too? i don't see anything about the price increase except for just the streaming subscription??
-
Consumers are weird.
-
meh. I have netflix with streaming and three dvd/blu ray out at a time. Think it's like $23 a month
I refuse to watch a DVD unless it's absolutely necessary. I've finally run out of stuff on my queue and just got my Jefferson book so I think I'll cancel netflix for a while. Literally can't think of a movie that I havent seen that I want to watch. -
"The changes cut prices slightly for customers who only want DVDs, but streaming video will now cost extra. Customers who want both options will essentially have to pay for two plans, raising their overall bill."

So depending on what your current plan is, it depends. Pretty much each service is 7.99 each(streaming, DVD 1-at-a-time).
"The changes will be effective immediately for new customers and will take effect September 1 for existing members, Netflix said". <--Just now saw the "new customer" part -
ahhh, ok. we currently get the streaming and 2 DVDs and pay $16.30, so we could just cut it to 1 DVD and pay pretty much the same.
i hate late fees so i'm not going to do redbox anyways -
Your closest redbox is 10 miles away??? Thought the whole convenience of it was the fact there is a location at every intersection, guess thats not every city though.

Standard predatory pricing model . . . keep it low until your competition goes under, then jack it up to recoup your losses once you're the dominant player in the market.
-
I didn't major in economics or anything but under what kind of system do you take losses on the reg and still become the dominant player? You would think making your way to the dominant player would consist of substantial steady gains. However, I agree, they are peaking and can gouge our eyeballs out at this point. They aren't a monopoly tho...redbox will give them a small run, and Blockbuster was talking about doing the same thing as redbox. Hulu and Zune will probably be their most competition over the years...plus all the shit you can pirate for free. Fuck netflix for thinking they have us by the balls
