Okay so today I wanted to put some money on the Bears-Vikings game. So I told my buddy, Ian, to go put $50 on da bears. He comes back a few minutes later and says I think you gave me $60, and handed me the $50 sports bet from Paris that had Bears -2.5 which was $50 to win $45.95 or something like that, plus he handed me $10 back.
So the bears obviously destroy the vikings and one of my friends goes to cash the ticket in for me and says because I bet $40 they took $10 back. So apparently what had happened was my buddy Ian went up to the counter and said "I'd like to bet $50 on the bears" and then put $40 on the counter, the clerk accepted the bet and counted the money and printed the ticket. I don't see how they don't honor the $50 bet. If they go as far as to accept a bet, and print out a ticket, accept my cash and let me leave then it should be the ticket writer's fault for not doing his job. I don't understand how you can accept a bet and then don't honor the bet. Any help? -
read this like 3 times and still don't get it

Nevada gaming question...................... infinite
-
also, I still don't get it....but once you leave the window it's on you. I know your friend bet for you, but always double check the ticket before you walk off.
-
I think he's trying to say that they gave him a bet ticket for $50 and realized that they only received $40 in cash after the person left with the $50 ticket, so they changed the bet in the system to $40. Obv no chance that actually happened, so sounds like the friend is lying?
-
Ya, not a chance in hell that happened. Friend is lying.

Your friend stole $10 from you?
I mean it's $10... -
Your friend is stealing from you.
The ticket writer can't retroactively change your bet. If there is a problem with the ticket, either on your part or their part, they must recollect the ticket to cancel it and re-issue a new one. Get a new friend. -
no i clearly am 21. and they even printed out the ticket after I went back to complain..so I asked for a copy of the ticket and they gave me a printed copy of it.
-
yah...i don't even get what he's trying to imply from the book.

if the ticket says $50 to win $45.75, they're going to pay you what it says...i don't think there's a corner on the ticket that says "even tho the ticket says $50, bettor only paid us $40, so don't pay him in full" -
the ticket clearly states a $50 sports bet was made
-
Well, maybe they can do it now that I think of it. Same thing as say you cash out in a poker room for $1100 and they mistakenly give you $1200....they can ask for the money back next time you come, and if you don't give it back they can ban you from the property.
-
no when I went back to the sportsbook to complain they said this is what happened we paid you only for a $40 bet, because that was what your boy gave us. They understood that the ticket said $50 but they said if you only bet $40 they only pay $40
-
Welp, make the bet yourself next time. It's not the book's fault your boy only pulled out 40.
-
That actually sounds right now that I think about it more. Although mistakes are made, they won't pay you on a $1000 ticket when you actually bet $100. Mistakes do happen, and they can correct them. Like I said before, people have been paid before wrongly in our poker room and next time they come in they are notified of it, and asked to return the money.
-
how do they realize they were shorted? no way they count all the money coming in during time of business, right?

am i just missing something entirely here? -
How is it not their fault? if a guy prints out a $1000 ticket and there is only $100 in front of him, he should be fired and owe the sportsbook $900.
-
orrr void out the $1K ticket and reprint a new one for the right amount...i guess i just don't understand how they book would realize they were shorted--unless it was right as the guy handed him the money and he was just too lazy to void the one and reprint one.
-
If you state your intentions , "I would like to bet $50"
you give them money
they acknowledge that the money you gave them is $50
they hand you a ticket stating you bet $50.. then how is it not a $50 bet?
am i missing something? -
Just lol @ this...cmon dude. People make mistakes in every line of work. You don't get a free $900 gift because the guy maybe hit an extra 0 when typing it in.

Ya, you're missing $10. You only bet $40
