  1. I am looking to trade in for a new car that is less than $20k.

I drive alot of miles so good mileage and a comfortable ride is important. I also need ample room for two young children in the back.

I have read great things about the Mazda 3. Curious if anyone has one and what they think. Also curious about the Dodge Caliber.

    Any other suggestions?
  2. we recently bought a loaded hyundai sonata (4cyl). out the door for 19.2 cash including tax tag title etc... after rebate.

very impressed so far for the price. I believe it's bigger than the accord and camry.

besides, it was made in alabama, so what could possibly go wrong?
  3. Over/under on how long it takes some dumbass to post the pic with the really ugly chick from the bodybuilder forum.
  4. calibers suck. i only think this because of the lame times i got one as a rental. they blow
  5. I just bought an 09 accord coupe and it is sfsweet. I got the Ex out the door in the mid 20s. There is a a lower model that you can definitely get out the door in the low 20s and you can probably get the 4 door for around 20, 21k. Really good bang for your buck. My gf's sister has the Mazda 3 and she likes it.
  6. Japan and Germany makes good vehicles that last. I would start by looking in that direction.
  7. I would stick with a Honda or Toyota for several reasons,
    resale, reliability and safety.

If a new one is just out of range, I would rather have a 1-2 yr old Honda or Toyota vs a brand new Dodge or Hyundai.

IMO, I would buy a used Toyota Avalon if you can find one.
  8. japs do have the history, but recently, ford made the most realiable. and agree, go with a year or two old. can be some great deals out there for a nice used car
  9. Mazda 3 Speed FTW
  10. Well, not sure if you want to look this way, but I got a Chevrolet Malibu, and it's right about $20k, so you might be able to negotiate your way a bit lower.

The room is nice, the ride is smooth. My dad has had them in the past with no issues, and it won awards this year for reliability.
  11. I got a Mazda 3 as well (not the Speed) and love it. Fuel efficient, decent safety ratings (although not perfect), attractive design, and fun to drive. I'm about 35k in and very pleased.
  12. We just bought a Mazda 3. Great little car, runs nice, and stylish.
  13. My sister has a Mazda 3 and she has pretty much beaten the balls off it.

I think its an '06 or '07 and she has about 70K miles on it. Its still in great shape.
  14. Nissan Altima/Maxima always a good choice

I've had two Malibu rentals in the past few months. They were by far my favorite. I was shocked when I heard they have gotten a lot of awards for quality. I will definately look at them when I buy my next car.

    I second this...
  17. I hope you mean a "new" used car.

if you're going to put lots of miles on a car. don't pay for the depreciation.
  18. lol that you posted this, what a coinkidink. i just bought my wife a mazda 3 2008 new two days ago. she really likes it, i think its good for the type of car it is as well

  20. I have a 5 dr Mazda 3. My quick review regarding your concerns...

Fuel: Not bad, but not great. For cars this size, there are better options. But that's what you get with a 2.3l in a small car.

Handling: Awesome. My buddy drives a pimped out R32 and was very complimentary when he drove my car.

Room: Fairly spacious for front passengers, but not so much for those seated in the rare. With two small children, I suppose you have to take into consideration how long you plan on keeping the vehicle (the bonus is that it will last you a long time). Once those kids grow a little bigger, they might start getting a bit cramped.

Oh, I guess my biggest pet peeve comes in inclement weather. I live in Chicago and while the car can handle snowstorms relatively well, visibility is rather poor in those situations because the car is low to the ground (comparatively speaking).

Good luck on your search. It's a great time to buy a car.
  21. I got a Mazda6 imo it is a much better looking then the Mazda3, and around the same price. Def. go with the 6 cyl instead of the 4 cyl. Test drive a few cars before you buy anything though.
