  1. My PC just busted, it was the motherboard so I'm going to buy a laptop instead. I am dipping into my bankroll and am a starving student so my budget is limited. Having said that I'm not going to cheap out and take a POS. My computer knowledge goes as far as google searching what I want, and nobody has clearly told me what somebody who listens to music, watches movies, writes papers, and plays poker needs. I will never be gaming on this laptop. What should I be looking for? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'd had to overspend or on the other side get something that won't last.

This is a bit over what I intended to spend but would be willing to put the money down:

But those specs are like reading hieroglyphics to me.

EDIT: I know 4gb of RAM is good (my pc had 1 gig and I could still run fast) and that pentium is more more preferred that celeron.
  2. My example didn't have HDMI output, which I need.

How is this brand Acer? I have no experience with them but they do have an HDMI output.

Most of their machines are actually pretty good. Their customer support is dismal, however.

That is a kickass laptop at a good price and is worlds better than that sony. Thread should be informative too.
