We have a 2006 Grand Caravan and it's basically a POS - too many little problems to list - the 5yr warranty just expired and we're getting rid of it - hubby originally wanted the Volkswagen Routan til we found out it was made by Chrysler and now we're looking at other options - he's still favoring the VW, but I'm looking at the Odyssey and Sienna - anyone have experience with either?
-
My wife drove an Odyssey for 5 years. The kids called it "The Bus." We loved that thing and it was probably one of the best vehicles we ever had.
My kids are 8 and 6 now, and the wifey got tired of being the MiniVan Milf. We sold it and got an SUV.
I'm sure the Sienna's are nice too, but we loved the Odyssey. I'd say go for the one that will give you the best deal. -
Just an FYI... because of the quake and ensuing tsunami, Japaneese cars are very limited and bringing a premium right now. Plants are back to capacity, but, it will be 3-4 months before inventory levels are back. There will be very few incentives, if any right now and demand> supply..... that is if you are considering new of course.. On the pre-owned side, due to lack of new inventory, used car prices have risen, and/or held high... MIght want to wait 3-4 months... December, year end would be my suggestion

was going to mock op but realized it's a purty girl, so:
I used to rock a sweet mazda mpv. we put in a knn and msd wires and actually used to smoke fools off the line at streetlights. don't know if they still make them so not sure if that helps but a badass minivan>>>regular minivan. glglgl! <3
would not get the vw. expensive, break down, etc. had campers growing up, cool for camping but 85hp and 4000lbs just not feasible imo -

people abuse minivans but they are great if you get the right one. You can't go wrong with either the honda or toyota. I'd also look at a Kia minivan. If you're unaware, Kia is basically owned by Hyundai which is a great up and coming car company. We have a Sonata with 60k miles on it and it's been flawless. I'm guessing you could save at least a few K getting a Kia versus either a comparable honda or toyota.
We have an odyssey with 130k on it, no problems.
One bit of advice. No matter what, spend the extra money and get the electronic sliding doors. -
You gave the kids life now get give something to yourselves. Fuck da minivans, they're old enough to walk.
-
Yeah, the automatic sliders are a must. Loved being able to push the button as we were walking across the parking lot to open them up and let all the hot air out. The kids just jumped right in too.
I miss the minivan (I didn't really have to drive it though hehe) -
My sister recently traded in her denali and went with the odyssey...she loves it and its actually a decent driving vehicle...the touch to open sliding doors are clutch with young kids and she has been very happy since getting out of her gas guzzling SUV...

Toyota Sienna has always scored top marks in reviews. The Kia Mini-van is very comparable, according to the buying guides I have seen in Canada. Where it may lag behind in some areas, it gains in price point. Friends have one, and love it. Poster above was right about them becoming a bigger player . . . they no longer make disposable vehicles.
-
For the love of fucking god.....please dont get a minivan.
Minivans are for daycare centers only.
Next thing u know u will be asking for advice on what mompants to get.
Much luv piggy but please get an suv -
for the love of god, don't get an SUV. have you ever been in a parking lot and seen a bunch of women trying to maneuver their SUV's in a parking lot? It's a comical nightmare. Get a minivan. yeah, I'm sexist, but it's the truth.

have a 1999 chevy venture, 185k miles havent had it in the shop in over 5 years, only problems are the auto locks dont work anymore. very reliable vehicle although i doubt if they still make them.

Contravan>minivan
-
Loool - it's the 3rd vehicle, not my sole car - we need it to hold the dogs, plus the carseat, plus all our stuff (we crate the dogs and a minivan is the most practical solution) - I've loved having the minivan as an option - the space comes in handy, and the new ones have a ton of neat features
-
3 vehicles??? gg mother earth!
-
if you are going used there is an older toyota minivan that i cant think of right now you should add to the list. Also read a shit ton of reviews recently while shopping for my wife's vehicle and Im so glad I didn't get the town and country. I read 400 customer reviews and they all complained about the same stuff on the Chryslers. Odyssey had the highest marks in the reviews I saw followed by that toyota.

Sad part is I bought her another Blazer instead of a minivan and it turned out to be a lemon. I suggest when you go out to purchase the new vehicle you have a breakdown and go into full mid life crisis mode and buy a corvette
EDIT* nvm it was the sienna -
Don't get a minivan, pigalet. That's fucked up.

piggy, i heard odyssey's are the shit. and by shit, i mean awesome. -
Kids are very close to the glass in Minivans vs. full size SUVs.
I prefer to be in a Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban when a vehicle of the same ilk (or larger) t-bones me and my fam.
Almost a prerequisite here in Texas... might be diff in your State. -
el burro up in here bein damn good looking
i mean damn right -
Piggy, how is your job going?
-
Bought an Odyssey in 2000. Its got over 200k miles and has been an unbelievable vehicle for our family. The Wife just got a new Pilot as our oldest will be taking over the Odyssey as her first car(yeah, we take care of them and drive them forever). Not that that is for everybody but its a credit to what a reliable van the Odyssey is.
LOL at all the people without children saying get a 50k SUV. I said the same thing before kids. Being cool isn't that important as you get older and they aren't any safer. To each their own but not everyone wants $800 car payments and 12 mpg so they can look like the guys in rap videos.
