  1. All I hear everyday on espn/espnradio is talk about the New York Jets - and not just rumors about Revis. Seems like this team has been anointed as one of the top 5 teams in the league, but for what reason? So I decided to look at their win total for the season figuring it would be blow up by the public - and it is. The over/under is 9.5 GAMES??? loooooooool

I think part of this is because they had a nice 2009-2010, but did they really?!

    - they only won 9 games last year - now they're supposed to win 10?

    - 2 of their 9 wins came in weeks 16 and 17, which if anyone remembers correctly it could be the biggest windfall of all time for the Jets to get in since the Colts and Bengals laid down the last two weeks and let them "win out" to get in

    - 5 of their 9 wins were against the: Raiders/Buccs/Bills/Panthers/Titans. Breathtaking. (Titans game looks like a good win, but this was before VY and during their 0-8 streak or whatever)

    - Their other 2 wins were great: They won AT Houston and they beat the Pats at home. Very solid.

    - Did they really have a good playoff run? Sure they beat the Bengals, but I thought the Bengals were a fluke anyway. Yeah they beat the Chargers by a FG in San Diego - but didn't Nate Kaeding wipe 9 points off the board by missing all 3 of his FG attempts? Then reality set in when they played the Colts and lost by two touchdowns.

What about their lack of offense?! Sanchez is garbage, I'm sorry. His rookie year was statistically worse than JaMarcus Russel's. Oh by the way, it's pretty fucking hard to win 10 games in the league with a shitty QB - just look at the 10+ game winners from last season:

    - Tom Brady
    - Carson Palmer
    - Peyton Manning
    - Phillip Rivers
    - Tony Romo
    - Donovan McNabb
    - Brett Favre
    - Aaron Rodgers
    - Drew Brees
    - Kurt Warner

Not to mention the hit their defense will take Revis doesn't play this year.. I just don't see this team getting to 10 games - let me know what you think.
  2. original thread idea.....
  3. 9 wins. Nice run/luck in playoffs last year. Don't see how they improved at all and most likely got worse at RB.

I'm not saying they're going to be anything great, but you're stoned off your ass if you can't see how they improved. Cromartie and Wilson are massive improvements over Lito and Lowery. Jason Taylor is a much better pass rush specialist than well, nothing. Even 1/10 of what Taylor used to be will provide more than what Westerman and Gholston did off the bench last year. Kris Jenkins is back and healthy again. Santonio Holmes is certainly helps their receiving core. Plus another year of experience for Sanchez will be big. Shonn Greene will be a better starter than Thomas Jones (who was a product of the o-line) if he can stay healthy and Tomlinson is a downgrade from a healthy Leon Washington, which they did not have last year. Their only real downgrade is at kicker, assuming Revis comes back at some point. Losing Kerry Rhodes doesn't hurt since he was invisible the first half, got benched, and only performed to a somewhat good level after being benched, and cutting Faneca will be a sideward step. He was still a good run blocker, better than Slauson will be, but Faneca was one of, if not the worst pass blocking gaurds in the league last year.

I'm not saying they'll win 10 games nor am I a sports betting expert, but 9.5 seems like a suitable line. I certainly wouldn't bet that they'll win 10+ games, but I wouldn't exactly bet that they'll go just 8-8 or so. Bottom line, imo, is that the team will be pretty unpredictable this season. Certainly with their defense, they won't shit the bed and end up 6-10 or something like that, with or without Revis. But depending on the steps Sanchez takes in his development throughout the year (there will be more development mid-season than there will be right off the bat week 1 imo, as he learns to apply what he learned watching tape in the offseason and the game slows down more), that will be the difference as to whether they are a 9-7 team again, or take the next step and are real contenders. Say what you want for the final 2 games of the season where the teams rolled over, but the Jets beat the same Bengal team in the playoffs, and were leading (I believe, might be wrong) when the Colts pulled their starters in the 2nd half in the last game.

  5. Lets see:
    1) They lost a game to the Bills where they were completely dominating them on the ground and for some reason they rang up some terrible pass plays to give them an opportunity for Sanchez to lose them the game
    2) They lost a fluke game against the Dolphins where Ginn ran back 2 kick returns
    3) They lost games to Atlanta, Jacksonville and a different Dolphins game on last second fgs and tds
    4) They were crushing the Bengals in the first half before their starters were pulled
    5) Kris Jenkins and Leon Washington were out more than half the season
    6) Mark Sanchez was a fucking rookie

Maybe thats why they SHOULD easily have more than 9.5 wins

    ^^^^

This sums it up right here. Thank you
  7. 8-8
  8. OP did you even think before posting this? And even someone else said "I don't see where they improved.." are you joking? Yes, Revis being out is going to hurt but we also picked up Cromartie..not to mention Jason Taylor and Brodney Poole. Sanchez had an awful year last year and I really can't see this season being much worse, but keep judging him by the preseason...that makes sense. Not to mention getting LT for him this year and Santonio Holmes...also Edwards having a full year in the system...you're right the offense is gonna blow....
Getting back to defense...a defense that was number 1 without the top run stopper in the league in kris jenkins who is returning, a rookie that people are high on in Wilson...and like mentioned the Jets lost a few games that they dominated..so yes expecting them to win 10+ is reasonable...your post was pointless thank-you for wasting our time
  9. Sweet Christ, I can't do this again.
  10. Lol Cromartie. Jason Taylor is like 50 and so is LT is Rb years. Edwards?! Sanchez has looked bad in preseason, actually rooting for him since he is socal.

I was actually starting to think maybe 10 but ^^^^. I like Wilson and getting Jenkins back should be good to but the guys who filled in didn't play to bad.
  11. 7-9

    no playoffs

  12. 8 wins. Most overrated team ever. Sanchez is not good.
  13. 9.5 wins seems like a good line. I'd take the under, 8/9 wins.

    FINALLY WE AGREE!!!!

    WOOT!!!!!
  15. 8-8 seems about right.

  16. all i have left to say on this goddamn topic

  17. anyone wanna bet me that Revis plays week 1? just something fun like $20 or $30
  18. If they can win their first 4 games in a row which will be tough i can see them having a 10-11 win season. I think adding cromartie and santonio holmes was a big approvement and if revis does come back why wouldn't they have a chance to have another great run at the superbowl.I don't even like the team but i know that in the nfl any team can improve just enough to make it to the superbowl theres been plenty of random matchups past 5 years so i'd watch out for them
  19. they got a lot of tough games and its a tough league, no revis would be disaster imo...9 wins without, 11 with.

  20. Hopefully the Jets defense crushes. I binked them on my FF squad
  21. Really tough team to figure out. 8-8, 9-7, 10-6 seem about right. I'm guessing bookmakers bumped the line up by a half game because it's a popular New York team, so the real line should realistically be O/U 9 wins. Like I said, though, really tough team to figure out. How will they perform in Ryan's second year? Can the defense, especially if Revis doesn't show up, carry this team? Will they be disciplined? Will Mark Sanchez be serviceable? Will Shonn Greene hold up for an entire season? Will the hype machine and expectations be too much?

I'm guessing 8-8, but I have no confidence in that call.

  22. 7 wins with out revis and 9 with...im a jets fan

sanchez is pretty meh, there run game is pretty legit but doubt it stays healthy all year when opponents are just gonna put 8 in the box...will see tho thats why they play them out

Yeah, I'm the same way with them. They are the only team in the league where if someone traveled back in time from the future and told me that they won the superbowl or finished 7-9 I'd not be the least bit surprised either way.

No idea what they are gonna do - but that schedule is rough, and there are a toooon of question marks along side all the bright spots. No fucking clue.

Im gonna guess 9-7 and be on the outside looking in, but I also have no confidence in that call

  24. Most expensive 8-8 team in NFL history.

  25. I got 11-5. Holmes was their best pick up imo.
  26. I mean... is everyone forgetting how strong they looked in the playoffs? If Revis was there, I would have them right with Indy to win the AFC. Minus Revis, it raises some questions, but they still should be a 9-12 win team imo, 9 being the bottom end.

  27. they go 10-6

    deep playoff run

i imagine they will split there first 4 games of the season and then get hot

just lol @ anyone thinking this team is vastly overrated or "most expensive 8-8 team ever"
  28. 10 Wins seems right on the money. Sanchez improved in the playoffs but I'm not sold on him. Plus the division is tough.

Great move stealing Holmes from the Steelers. They would have been crazy going into this season with Braylon "New York Essense" Edwards as the number one option.

No sir, I didn't overlook their playoff run at all. But keep in mind, 1) they spanked the Bengals - who were a fluke anyway. 2) Then they beat the Chargers - after Kaeding misses 3 FG's and when have we ever expected the Chargers to win playoff games? Then they play a real team and get touched up for 30 by Manning and the Colts.
