obviously not. I can understand going up to the anchor for this or that but to go up to him to discuss a scandal for 10 seconds right before he goes on air seems totally fucking ridiculous to me. I still like this show tho. -
Didn't surprise me in the least. Seriously. Not trying to bust balls.

I understand this completely, some of the "witty" dialogue scenes make me cringe because of this. But usually never when it is Will's scenes. It's mostly just 4 characters on the show I find this happening with me; Jim, Charlie, Maggie, and Mackenzie although the latter does have a shining moment every now and then. Jeff Daniels makes up for everything that may be/is wrong with the show though.

There has been something that has bothered me about the show and I couldn't pinpoint it until this last episode. The dialogue and conversation exchange in each scene is so scripted and unnatural. The endless super smooth banter that is involved in each conversation is unbelievable and just kind of odd.

That said, I slurped up his takedown of the gossip reporter like nectar of the gods, it was one of Sorkin's classic Idiot Gets Put In His/Her Place moments. Love it love it love it. -
I'm not a very political person in the least but my guess would be that conservatives are an easy target? Use the most out of context bashing of liberal views, statements, etc? Have been known to just completely pull statistics out of thin air to back up an argument? Very close minded on a lot of social issues?

I'm starting to think that I just described politics as a whole if you remove the last part, lol politics.
Although I do love Coldplay's Politik. You know how I know you're gay.... -
i thought that the islam community center debate took place over the summer, but they used it in this episode which took place in april.
classic sorkin episode with main character talking to a shrink about things going on at work that bring up issues from their past that they need to deal with.
i can def see the criticism about both the dialogue being so witty and clever and also the repubashing. i would like to see him get on dems a bit too. -
looooooooooooooooooooooooooved this episode
and if you didn't think the bit with the black gay republicans wasn't the show "getting on dems a bit" at the least, I dunno what to say. -
it may be slanted, but it's hard to argue with so far without nitpicking.
I'm entertained and don't feel attacked so it can't be that bad. I'm still into this show. -
Yup. Great scene.

The drama between couples is a bit over the top but the story lines revolving around the news that night is great imo. -
It didn't take long to get to the first "out of sync" episode from Sorkin which is one of the things I love most about his writing. There's nothing better than watching an episode come together like a puzzle rather than unfolding in the usual manner. Plus, scenes with shrinks are almost always good regardless of who the patient is.

my only problem with that scene is that I watched the same exact fucking scene 10 years ago on West Wing with Josh and the gay republican congressman

The episodes where Josh and later President Bartlett saw a therapist were def some of the best on The West Wing. Sorkin writes that shit super well.
-
Josh was not harsh or combative in that scene. The characters were friends of sorts. Also, I think the idea bears repeating.

Edited By: Lord Supremo Jul 31st, 2012 at 03:01 AMNo you didn't. You saw a discussion on the same general topic ("How can a gay guy be a Republican?"), but you did not see the exact same scene. Kind of like how Will McAvoy is not the same character as Joe Quincy or Cliff Calley or Arnold Vinick, even though they're all moderate republicans who hate the religious right and other nutjobs taking over the party.Originally Posted by dolphin13

You do seem super determined to dislike this show tho. They finally do the thing you've been bitching about for weeks and you're mad because its similar to something you saw 10 years ago? L8R CHIRP -
it was an exaggeration. lol. calm down and breathe. I just had high expectations for the show and its falling a little short. It's still better than most of the shit out there and I'll keep watching. If thats the best pushback on liberals the show has, then welp.

he's got a point dolphin. not only were the characters different, they had different names and were played by different actors. plus, the name of the show is different and they are set in different years! get it together -
Looooooool Jeff. Awesomeness
Just watched Sundays episode. Without a doubt, best one of the series. I was so dialed in even though you knew precisely what was gonna happen. -
IT'S NOT EVEN ON THE SAME CHANNEL!
ps will I be able to get thru this show? it just sounds so bad. I mean, I could have told everyone what it was like before it started. oh wait I did lol. do I dare give it a shot? or will I just get a instaheadache from the "witty" "repub" banter? love me some jeff daniels -
I remember I was sitting at my computer with the TV on, tracking the OT thread about the president's address. Just like the show, it seemed like it was going to be about Osama but it took awhile for confirmation. I remember how the address kept getting pushed back which was really getting annoying. This episode did a good job of re-creating the tension and the anticipation that were in the air that evening. Also, Lisa had a really good line while she was dumping Jim.

Ya, I'm totally rooting for the Jim/Lisa thing to keep going and Maggie to go completely psycho over it and murder Lisa, followed by Maggie's arrest and permanent incarceration.
