  1. Never been to a Hockey game before, the wife and I are going to buy tickets tomorrow and I don't follow Hockey nearly as much as I should thus I have no clue which game would be better. Here are our options, all of these are good dates and times for us so that isn't an issue.

    Canes v Coyotes
    Canes v Maple Leafs
    Canes v Bruins
    Canes v Panthers
    Canes v Lightning
    Canes v Devils

  2. 1. Bruins
    2. Leafs
    3. Panthers
    4. Devils
    5. Lightning
    6. Coyotes

    imo

this, boston is the best team in the league right now, hands down.
  4. well you got the defending champions in the Bruins so that's gotta be top of your list

for me I would go Bruins first with the Maple Leafs second. the rest of the teams you can just toss in a hat and pick em out. Coyotes have some decent players but no stars, no clue how the Panthers have gotten themselves to where they r, good star power on the Lightning, and the Devils r just a boring ass team imo. i guess the quality of the opponent doesn't matter too much when you have to auto factor in the worst team in the Eastern conf. lol

  5. 1. Bruins - best team in th league and defending champs
    2. Lightning - for pure star power - Stamkos, Lecavalier, St Louis.
    3. Leafs - improved team and you have the history aspect of an original 6 team.
4 Devils - to be able to see Brodeur play. Top 3 goalie of all time. Maybe the best.
5 Coyotes - good young competitive team
    6. Panthers

You should have caught the Pens game on Saturday. Pretty solid hockey and the last minute of the game was incredible.

If you are a hockey fan, you will absolutely love going to the games. There is so much you miss on TV that you will see in person. It is easily my favorite sport to attend games. Oh and the Carolina (cheerleaders? ice girls?) aren't bad to look at either.

  8. Not trying to be a dick or massive homer, but if you go to the leafs game there will probably be a lot of leaf fans there, I know it bugs some people to see their home arena full of the visiting team's fans.

That said still sfobv go to the leafs game

  9. Do you want to see a home win, or watch some quality players? If the former, just reverse 2catch2's list for the win. If you want skill, then it's Boston or the Leafs, with Tampa a close second. building will likely have more bums in seats for the Leafs tilt, so the atmosphere might be more entertaining.
  10. Leafs travel well and they get the arena pumping. I'm sure it's more so here since Detroit is a border city with Canada but games are always a little more fun with those silly cannuckians in town. If you're just looking for the best opponent it's bruins in a no-brainer.
  11. Bruins - the old Bruins/Whalers rivalry revisited.
Coyotes - since these are both former WHA teams
Lightning - fun team to watch
Leafs - to see if people boo during the Canadian National Anthem
Devils - maybe Snooki or Jay-Z will be attendance?
Panthers - Carolina already has a bad Panthers team.

  12. I am sorry you are limited to a Canes game as they are one of the worst teams to watch in the league this yr.

    THIS
  14. Now that we have NHL again...
1)Bruins - Defending Stanley Cup Champs, playing well
2)Lightning - Lecavalier, Stamkos, St Louis, etc.
3)Panthers - Division game, exciting young team
4)Devils - Henrique, Kovalchuck and Parise, skilled line, fun to watch (the other night anyway)
5)Coyotes - each of you can have your own row. (maybe every game is like this though?)
    6)Watch game on TV
7)Leafs - bad team and over rated, cya on the links come April (like the Manitoba Kid though, get well Reimer)

"if you go to the leafs game there will probably be a lot of leaf fans there, I know it bugs some people to see their home arena full of the visiting team's fans."
How my hate for Leafs was born.

are you really trolling my threads now.....lol pretty sure I love where I live and am well aware the Canes suck

wondering if the Leafs will travel really well to Raleigh, do they travel well because they have lots of fans around the US?.... love the fun atmospheres, the Bruins seems like a can't miss game though.....oh the decisions

  16. Local airline Porter has regular flights into Raleigh for decent rates. Avaialability of Canes tix on the day of, plus low cost of flight and tix, means it's occasionally cheaper to go to Raleigh to watch the Leafs than to go to toronto to do it. You will see a fair number of Canadians at the game, trust me. Especially if it is a Saturday night game.
  17. I personally like it when I go to a game where the opposing team travels well. It really helps electrify the arena and you know both teams play that much harder off of that. This was the only reason I ranked them (the Leafs) on my list where I did, I couldn't care less about their team on the ice. Do the Canes usually sell out and have high ticket demand? Your best bet/value might be scoring some sweet seats for a reasonable price and seeing the Panthers. For the more average hockey fan, seat positioning outweighs the on-ice product.

Clearly someone has not watched the lightning play in a while. They SHOULD be fun to watch but they're just not.

Was reading through this thread and am glad that somebody finally said this. I'm surprised at how many people said they are still a fun team to watch with that terrible 1-3-1 trap they play.

    That being said I'd go
    1. Boston or Toronto - Boston if you like physicality, Leafs if you want speed/skill
    2. Panthers or Pheonix - I'd pick Panthers by the way they've played this year, but Yotes have had their moments.
    3. Lightning or Devils - Both teams play boring styles that I wouldn't recommend for a first game. TB ahead of NJ because of better individual players, but you won't get to appreciate them the way you should.

i approve of this post completely
  23. its been hard for me to adjust to the leafs being a "speed/skill" team, for like the last 15 years the criticism is they were too slow. (see the age of the 03-04 team)

bout as exciting as a late the 2000 NJ Devils team. Sigh... I still remember Game 6 of the 2000 Leafs-Devils series... shot counter had a bug up their ass that game

  24. ok its settled, were gonna go to Boston game for sure might try to squeeze in the Leafs game as well, I personally love teams that travel (as a Falcons fan always loved the Saints @ Falcons fame for the same reason they came in singing When the Saints come marching in every year), thanks for all the good insight, knew I could count on OT's diversity on this type of topic

Porter 100% doesnt fly to raleigh or I'd go to 2-3 UNC hoops games a year. But alot of transplanted fans as well as a bunch that'll make the trip down. Because believe it or not it's probably cheaper(or very close to the same) to fly to raleigh stay in a hotel and buy tickets to the game than it is to sit in premium seats at the ACC pay for parking and have beers at the game

Boston is a great choice defending champs plus they're on a heater

...if you want to see your team get absolutely smoked in your first-ever NHL game
  29. hmmm . . . they WERE doing a Raleigh run. Wonder if it is a seasonal thing.
