The 3rd since 1992 and the last one was in 2005 where i believe they missed the whole season.

They should move most of the teams north of the border...maybe the fans outrage would actually be felt. Most USA fans dont give a flying fuck and so the pressure on the NHL is not as great as it was on the NBA or the NFL.
I dont even care for hockey i just find it utterly ridiculous that this is the 3rd stoppage in 20 years and to have another one just 7 years after a missed season is just crazy.
Any thoughts OT?
How long is this lockout expected to last? -
this is the third. its possible that it will last a long time
-
don't know anything about the lockout but at the Rush concert tonight Toews, Keith, Kane and like 4 other Blackhawks players were on stage for the encore it was sweet
-
yea it sucks. the last lockout almost ruined the blues franchise. people in st. louis just said fuck you, we'll watch the games but we're not gonna pay to go see them. so stupid that teams like chicago new york minnesota etc, think its ok to not revenue share with teams like phoenix nashville and florida. should be pretty simple to look at the best ran league(nfl) and basically say, lets do that, it must work. bettman is the shittiest commish, guy needs to go
-
Ummm yeah it's not as simple as "lets share revenue". And the NHL market size is a fraction of the NFL, so no, you can't just "do that".

We all knew the Lockout was going to happen, it isn't really news. It is only a matter of if or how many games are cancelled because of it.

The Owners are crying poor yet they are the ones signing off on all these 100m contracts -
So fucking Glad NCAA basketball and NFL have replaced NHL on my list of sports i follow and watch closely. The league is a fucking joke and if all the suits in charge are that dumb to allow another stoppage just when the game was growing by leaps and bounds in markets they need they desevrve going busto. The on ice product is getting so much better with all the young studs but the retards in charge are killing themselves by inking 13 year deals IMO u shouldnt allow deals longer thanCBA is signed for

Why should there be revenue sharing with the same 6 teams getting the money year after year. A welfare system should require a recipient to have to fend for themselves for 3 out of 5 years to collect money, not an ongoing walfare state. The way the NHL is now, people pay huge money to see games in big hockey markets so they can subsidize a struggling team year after year. If a team cannot make money in its current market, then move the team to where they can make money, or dissolve the franchise.
-
this. They should dissolve about 1/3 of the league.

Ovechkin said it is likely going to last a full year.
-
Heres the Main thing about Discussing Revenue Sharng and how it works so well for the NFL. Their TV deals are wrth BILLIONS not Thousands
They gotta figure out something and eliminating 4 teams would go a long way in not dragging down the rest -
fauxjohnmadden up in this bitch.
I really like hockey and they have the 2nd best playoffs of the 4 majors (nfl still #1ldo), they really screwed up the product last time with a whole year off and if this goes another year there will be some franchises that sink. that commish is a clown, eff major sports politcs -
The SEL has already said that they aren't going to allow NHLers unless they stay for the entire year. So the KHL is probably going to be very happy.
-
If the players were on strike as opposed to being locked out, would the NHLPA allow the players to go play for a scab league in Europe?
-
they would be striking against the nhl though wouldnt they? and not against their own union
-
I stopped watching hockey during the 93-94 strike or whatever year it was and never went back. It's a great game but they lost me. Baseball lost me too, took Pedro and Big Mac/Sosa to get me back.
-
yes they would be striking against the NHL, but my union would not be happy if we were on strike and I went to work for non union competition. I would be required to spend time on the picket lines. Was just thinking that the NHLers going and playing in Europe, they are taking a job away from a person who might otherwise get to play hockey there this year. Doesn't seem very union like to me.
-
No it's fucking busch league what the players are doing not only taking a job away from someone but fighting for more money in their league. Yet going over seas to play for signifigantly less $$$$
-
During the last lockout...jeremy roenick did this big thing blaming the fans. I got a letter published responding to him. I love hockey but won't care if its gone(sixers got bynum woot)

yea nfl is not a good model unless you totally ignore player interests, i.e. no guaranteed contracts, player health -
fuck Bettman
