Well today is the day, the greatest playoff runs begin.
How many storylines this year? There is one in every series:
(1) Choke prone SJ Sharks, can they right the playoff failures of the past
vs
(8) Colorado is Young, upstart, should of been 15th in the Conference but fuck the haterzzzzz...
(2) Chicago, deepest team in the league, sick young talent, is this the year or will goaltending be their downfall?
vs
(7) Nashville...*crickets*
(3) Robbie Luo and the Canucks...will the Luo's turn to Boo's (hey that wasn't half bad)
vs
(6) LA Kings...young, hungry and ready to take their first shot in a long time
(4) The Whiteout is back in the desert, plus they are trying to counter the octopus of Detroit by possibly throwing snakes on the ice when the Yotes score...
vs
(5) The Veterans, every fucking year just when you count them out, Nick and Co. say "don't forget about Hockeytown", can they make it 3 Finals in 3 Years?
(1) Washington, Ovi and Co. had a huge letdown last year after possibly the single greatest playoff series of the past decade, can they put it behind them?

(8) Oh Montreal...playoff success hasn't come since the days of Patrick Roy, Kirk Muller and Eric Desjardins...can they Habs muster up some old magic?...No...can they win one game? Hopefully.
(2) New Jersey...Martin Brodeur is the single greatest position player of our time. If you think Albert Pujols is consistent look up this guys stats...ho hum another 45 wins this year and 76 games played, not bad for 37 year old.

(7) The PHL-yers have all the tools to make a deep run, except that little thing the Devils are so strong at: Goaltending. Can they bank on their regular season success vs the Devils?
(3) Buffalo...Oh Buffalo the city of heartbreak. So close a few years ago, so close in 99 Can Ryan Miller pull his best Dominik Hasek impression and put this team on his back for a deep run.

(6) The Booo-ruins...Team that can't score + Ryan Miller=5 game exit.
(4) The Pens...Love him, hate him, call him a bitch, whiner, little girl but you have to respect what Sid's done at the age of 22. Can he and the little talked about Geno Malkin bring the Pens back to the promise land or did they lose too many pieces in the offseason?

(5) Ottawa...surprise team of the East, With no real goalie, no real good dmen, and barely 2 competent lines, this team somehow found a way to excel after the Olympic break. Think the wings take down PHX. Honestly I dont think anyone except for maybe chicago can say they have a better shot at getting to the finals out of the west.

Best time of the year.. I love it.. Even when the Rags arent in it. I hope every series goes 7 games. I hope the Devils lose in soul crushing fashion like last year. I honestly dont care who wins. I just hope they are epic classic series.. I really think Vancouver is going to win the Cup this year though. Im happy Buffalo is back in so get to lesson to the great Rick Jeanrette for a few more games. Still the NHL playoffs seem to missing something without the Leafs in.
Jimmy Howard is the key player in the west IMO. Be interesting to see how the Sharks will react when and if they face some adversity. KIngs making first playoff appearance in a long time same with the Coyotes. Pittsburgh Ottawa will be a fun series to watch. too bad Kovy is out..

totally agree....The coyotes do matchup pretty well against us but I just do not see a team that never makes the playoffs beating a team that is always in the finals not just the playoffs. You forgot to mention Stephane Richer when talking about les Habs former Stanley Cup glory. One of the greatest goal scorers in the game. Oh, and if Pat Burns dies before the series is wrapped up, the Burns factor will lead the Canadiens to the promised land.

The Pens are in third place on my sports interest list behind the Pirates and the Steelers, but I get excited for the playoffs. I just bought a Jordan Staal t-shirt for tonight. I normally wouldn't buy a replica t-shirt over a jersey, but I don't want to wear a sweater from April through June.
