  1. The family and I have kind of for the moment decided to go with out health insurance until Obama forces us to.
We are looking into setting up an HSA like my wife had at her old job. Also looking to get maybe catastrophic health insurance if there is such a thing anymore? Basicly a really high deductible for cancer or something.

I am self employed and started looking at insurance at first. We found some ok family plans for around 300 a month. not including dental or vision or anything. For the mean time we have been putting 400 a month into a savings account just incase.

Well we had read a bit about ppl who dont have insurance but are well off. Who work deals with doctors and stuff since you pay it all off upfront.

SO this year so far thats what we have been doing. My son had to get all his shots and stuff to get ready for school. If my wife still had insurance we would be paying just over 400 a month for al the coverage with a 2k deductible per family member. So the bill was going to be 512 . So for that month 400+512=912. Now I told them I no longer have insurance, and want to pay it all upfront. They said well we give a 20% discount along with what ever else we can do. They ended up not charging me for a cpl of the test along with the discount. I ended up paying 209 instead of 512. So I saved 703 last month.

This month I finally stoped putting off going to the docs for some burning in my right arm. Turns out i have some nerve damage. I ended up only paying 119 instead of 278.she did say she was worried about sending me in for an MI or IM or something like that were they stick needles in my arm. with out insurance. I told her unless its like 4k for the test I am fine with paying it all off. I am to go back in a month after I stoping taking the roids she put me on and we will look into it more at that point.
so instead of 400+278=678 for this month I only paid 119. SO for last 2 months i saved 1262 just in 2 visits.

Now I realise if anything serious happens I am screwed at the moment and we are looking hard for like i said before ,a cheap catastrophic type insurance along with hsa type account. But really it is amazing how much cheaper stuff is if you just talk.

My wife at her new part-time job can have insurance for her and the kids in a year. We have talked of her doing that on the cheap then and I would just stay as we are now.

anyone else do this by choice?
  2. You have a child and you are choosing to go without health insurance.

    Good luck.
  3. That makes you irresponsible as fuck

    Especially when you have children

    idiot

  5. I agree with the above comments. The only person that has coverage in my family is my child. But I do the same thing you do. But why not have insurance and just pay it up front without using your insurance...you still save money. Like your above example. You pay 400 a month for insurance. If the bill with insurance paying is 512 and the bill wihtout is 209. Why not pay 400+209= 609 instead of 400+512=912. Still saving 300 bucks but you still have the safety net for just in case reasons.

EDIT: The reason I don't do that is ATM I can't afford the insurance premium until my work insurance kicks in.

its rare that I agree with dadonkey, but fuck?! Are you serious? U have kids! WTF is wrong with you? Do you even know how much a 3 hour stay in the hospital is? This is so ridiculous.
  8. I am looking for a high deductible insurance just incase something big happens. Like I stated I became self employed. In one year my wife can get insurance for her and the kids. Man read the whole thing.lol.

So far I am finding even high deductible insurance is going to run 150 a month. But at least I can right off HSA stuff in my taxes frm what I am reading so far.

How is tooling out better than saying:

    This is a bad idea.
  12. If everyone did this, health care costs would likely come way down. Since they don't, you're taking a pretty big gamble. GL sir
  13. Flips for health? That's pretty much the kind of gamble here.
  14. We are looking. LOL its funny how most are not reading the whole thing just the title. It is just amazing how everything is so cheap by actually having the money to just pay it off. If it was just me and the wife I wouldnt even be looking for high deductible health care. I would jsut keep putting money into an hsa or savings account.

  15. What type of business do you have B?
  16. I am Field Inspector for bank and mortgage companys. I had done it part time for years. But with the market the way it was. I was turning down more work then I was making working my other jobs. I make slightly more then dbl what I did working before. So insurance went away when I made the jump. Wife had to stop working fulltime for humana, and went back to walmart parttime. We had good but costly insurance with humana. We are looking for a high deductible with an hsa account. It was just shocking to see how cheap you can go when you pay cash. Was looking to see if anyone else has done this route.

  17. You can do the same thing you're doing now with a high deductible plan and an HSA account (and yes, you can use pre-tax dollars with the HSA) - we have a $5k deductible and an HSA (all routine visits are covered) - currently, you can use the HSA for basically anything health-related (OTC meds as well as prescriptions, even vitamins, chiropractic services - anything not covered by our dental - we used it for my invisalign, too, and got 15% off for paying upfront) - that may change with obamacare passing (for instance, we can currently use the HSA for the hubby's concierge-style medical service, but they're restricting that at some point going forward, so we won't be able to use the HSA funds for it) - plz get catastrophic coverage ASAP -you don't want to gamble on everything you've worked so hard to build - your savings will be depleted in the blink of an eye if anything bad happens (not worth the $ you're saving now)

Youre right. Every time somebody does something you dont agree with just spew your fucking hate rather than tell them why it's a bad idea. Im sure you're a cool guy in real life.

Ok you are right, I will try your approach

Goofy, it's a bad idea to meet up with random chicks you met online, especially crazy ones that shove vitamin bottles up their vajayjay because she's probably a crazy bitch and obv more slutty than a Vegas hooker. It is even more pathetic to get on cam with said chick thinking you are a bad ass! I realize you gained some confidence b/c OMG a chick actually hooked up with you so you can be all high and mighty on the boards now. Congratulations!
  25. Hey Goofy, La Donkey is correct here. Get the kids some damn health insurance.

Ive agreed on this point. I dont agree with tooling out on the fucking guy and La Douchebag has made it a fucking habit.
  28. you guys couldnt even read to line 2? How lazy are you ppl? I understand if I didnt put I am looking for high deductable and hsa 4 pages down, but its line 2!!!

I can cover small stuff just fine. I have been reading alot on ppl who religiously save and just cover out of pocket. Even pay for hip replacements and everything out of pocket because cost is so much cheaper out of pocket then through insurance.

I am mostly hoping to find someone who on here has super cheap high deductable. Seems the best i can find is 110 for family for a month. which has like a 10k deductable. Which i am just fine with. OR someone who took the choice to not go insurance at all to see how they are doing. Which with kids I am hoping for some lite coverage. I mean family coverage has run us 400+

If I pay 110 a month for high deductable and put the other 300 into an hsa I am going to be alot better off in the long run do to paying out of pocket over higher costs of health care. The only time I lose is if something crazy bad happens. which is were the high deductable comes in. OR in theory if all I did was save month to month. I could cover a big surgery out of pocket do to the cost of surgery being alot lower since I am paying upfront. Just trying t get some ideas flowing damn!!

  29. Are you medically able to join the army/navy/airforce/marines/coast guard reserves? If so you can get full family medical and dental for about 300 per mo.

If you run into a catastrophic claim then you will have to declare personal bankruptcy and enroll in medicaid. The person in your family will get the treatment they require -- assuming Uncle Sam doesn't deny your claim. Yes OT the government can deny your claim just like an evil insurance company.

There is really nothing irresponsible about it as long as you don't have significant assets to protect in excess of the federal exemptions for bankruptcy. Assuming you can still work or have disability coverage your kids will still have food and government subsidized housing.

In general, most people are poor and don't really need health insurance at all. Insurance is protection for your assets. If you have no assets to protect then you don't need health insurance. You cannot be too poor in the USA to get medical treatment. That's unpossible (to quote Ralph Wigum).
  30. No offense, but...

It's fucking idiots like you that forced the government every to get insurance.

    - Da Donkey is right
    - s1nnr is right to state that harsh comments are appropriate
    - Good news is that if your forgo routine medical treatment, the quicker it will take you out of the human gene pool.

    But again - no offense.
