"lag compensation"
Edited By: Hateflops Nov 30th, 2011 at 06:51 PM
Basically the shittier connection the bigger advantage you have in this game. I have a great connection at my house and my K/d hovers around 1. (I am not the best player I will admit that, however I am not too shitty). I always wondered how my buddy has a 2.0+ k/d in this game. I asked him if I could come play at his house. I get there and sure enough it's not even the same fucking game. He has Century link (less expensive, shittier internet) internet. I played like 8 games, never on the winning team and my worst game was 9 kills 6 deaths. (we lost 3300 to 7500) Best game was 20-2.
No wonder this fucking game sucks right now, hopefully they will patch this shit soon.

what? The game is shit for people on great connections. Weird that I destroy BF3, halo etc.. somehow after 2d recorded on this game I somehow suck?

What's elite level kill/death ratio?
-
Cry me a river.
-
my connection is fine and i have a 2.3 k/d ....
-
not sure I buy this -- I still do well at MW3 despite having a very fast internet connection. I definitely have an occasional round where it seems link everyone is getting a jump on me, but I don't think its the lags fault. More often than not I do well. MW3 is a lot about game selection -- sometimes you get in a game and there are some really excellent players on a team and its hard to overcome... sometimes the room is filled with noobs and you can throw up 30-6 games.
-
Weird I have great connection, and I'm still pretty solid at this game...(at 1.3 overall but first few days was learning and I was like .5 or whatever...last week was at 1.5 with about 500 kills and this week 1.68 about 200 kills so far)

Anyone ever think that the competition just got better? MW has been out for years now, with people pretty much playing around the clock. Its pretty much the same game as its always been, with the same skillset being utilized. People that sucked in 2007 are going to be significantly better in 2011.
I'm not going to say this 100% doesn't exist, but I'm not convinced it makes THAT much of a difference. -

Until you play on different types of connections, you won't be convinced. It's such a huge difference, when I played at my buddies I could run around waaaay more, my hit markers were always killing them. And again, I was on losing teams about 90% of the time but still averaging a 2.0 k/d. When I am on a losing team at my house, I usually get murdered. -
Yup this shit exists and is fucking horrible. I think they nerfed it a little already though. When the game first came out and I pulled host I would struggle to go even and lose every fair gun fight I had but it got alot better after one of the updates. I would rage quit because of lag but I would be host.... Does not compute
-
You can't explain connection differences, you have to witness them. I always run about 1.4 on my connection, and when I play at one of my buddies, I constantly run at 3.

Granted, I couldn't say if my connection is good or bad. -
I must have a pretty sweet Internet connection...
-
ya I don't know if its just in my head but now watching this shit I can't help but think this is an issue for me. I have super fast internet (FIOS) and when playing MW3 will get killed the instant the guy sees me and then when I watch his kill screen Im on his screen for like a full fucking second.

This ^ rarely do the kill cams = what happend on my screen. -
you can see it in the vid op posted... you see someone and youre dead before you can even fire. people did not get dramatically better. i think it's gotten better in their patches, but still has issues. ill give them the benefit of the doubt with time to fix them.

i had a 1.67 kd on black ops and 1.52 on mw3 but thats kinda meaningless. i could make both higher or lower just by adjusting how and what i play. but im mostly playing merc on mw3 and using assault killstreaks(mostly used spy plane, csp and bb on black ops) so my kd should be higher. part of it is the ridiculous spawn system and part is def the lag issues, esp early in the release. -
I guess I'll have to play on someone else's Internet but my gfs cousin used to crush black ops (1.6) he has clear Internet which if you didn't know is pretty much trash and now he's only like a 1.10 k/d right now

no definite answer... ive seen kds over 3 by people im sure are worse than me. they just play slower and safer. i guess if thats fun for you.
best player ive ever played with has under 2.0 on black ops and mw3. but hes fast and racks up killstreaks better than anyone ive ever seen. -
Gotcha thanks. Yeah that makes sense I guess there is more to it than just the ratio, volume has to be taken into account.

I never understood the massive appeal for this game. I mean, don't get me wrong, I played Call of Duty 4 religiously for like 3 weeks straight then I just sort of snapped out of it, put the controller down and haven't played really since. I played the newest one at a friends house for about 8 minutes, it was exactly the same game as CoD 4. I guess people just don't care? 60 bucks for new maps and new guns? How many different version of an AK-47 are there? That's the annoying part. If people were still playing CoD 4 I wouldn't care at all, but no, they buy a new version of the same game every 9 months and drool over it like it's the fuckin titties. Meanwhile, BF3 is out and it's better in literally every imaginable category but people stick to what they are used to, the name they know I guess.
-
It's true, at my house I am 1.6 when I play at my girlfriends apartment I fight to break even. For some reason using light machine guns or others with higher fire rate seems to help. Shit sucks tho, I know what you mean
-
Explain to me how a better connection means you'll do worse at the game? Wouldn't it be the opposite and if your connection sucked and you were lagging terribly you would be getting killed before you knew what even happened?
-
def happens to me a lot. Most of the time i feel like the guys are fucking invisible im literally looking at a spot no ones there i take 2 steps and im getting shot by someone that was NOT there 2 seconds ago and im dead before i even know what happens.

Right, so the developers introduced a mechanism that tries to compensate for this lag (I'm not sure exactly how it works, probably by slowing down the faster connections somehow, introducing artificial lag) and they clearly overcompensated. It is a confirmed issue and they say they are working on a patch to fix it.
