I'm taking a mucho needed trip, all pleasure no business, at the end of October to New Orleans. I haven't been since I was in high school so I'm pretty fuckin excited. We are going to the Voodoo Music Festival once or twice and then partying it up on Bourbon Street. I'm not sure where the house is that we are renting but I'm told that it's stumbling distance from the French Quarter? When I was in high school, I got bumped from a flight in NOLA right around Halloween. Instead of sleeping in the airport until the flight the next morning, I took a cab to the French Quarter and it was a HUGE party all night long. Someone told me that it's the second biggest party to Mardi Gras? Does anyone know what weekend that happens? Anyone else going to be around by chance the weekend of the 26th through the 28th?!

boooooooo I am going the next weekend 2nd-6th.
-
I'll be there 29-30 Oct.
-
I'll be there in December. Have no idea what to do since we don't drink. And I don't eat seafood so new Orleans is probably the worst place for me. Lol

I'd lose to see a new Orleans style funeral if they still do em. Got to go through my new Orleans visitors guide -
I was just there for final 4 and it was a party. Lots of food and drinks to be had. We also stayed "stumbling" distance to FQ but I still took a cab home if alone. City still had a lot of run down areas but for the most part everyone was super nice. Bourbon was ok but IMO dirty and smelly we had a much better time on Frenchmans street (a little southeast of bourbon I think) if your up before 1 or 2 get in a cab and go to little dizzys for food place was dyno

Second Frenchman street as much cleaner, less trashy people, and more fun than bourbon st.

considering i should probably be living in Nola by then I will most likely spend my 1st halloween in the FR qtr this year. Plus you owe me drinks from all those razz tips back in the day :). Pm me as it gets closer

I mean i guess you can still sightsee but one of the best parts about Nola is the great food...but i guess you can get away without eating seafood.
For all visiting; definitely eat at Jimmy J's. It is simply fantastic. The cook used to work for Emeril so he knows his shit. It's open 24/7 and everything I've had there tastes great; from the sides like grilled potatoes to the entrees. Everything is just so well done; shit my mouth is watering now...

Obv also to Cafe du Monde

Also, try Mother's cafe

I had a great red beans and rice+fried chicken here:

This little diner has some real good food as well

Also, for the seafood lovers, you have got to eat at K-Paul's. It's chef paul prudhomme's restaurant and i've never had seafood like it. The fried glazed frog lets or unlike anything else and his specialty is blackened seafood and blackened filet. I've had both but it's probably the best steak i've ever had. It's pricey though so that's for a date night.

Hope that gets you on your way -
+1000 to Frenchman.
Bourbon is fine if you just want to get sloppy wasted, walk in piss, and hit on hood rats. If you want a little classier and deal with the locals, and like a lot of live music varieties, Frenchman is definitely the way to go. -
You're basically taking the exact trip I made last year, Voodoo Fest and all. Had one of the best times of my life.

Edited By: Popperhead Sep 30th, 2012 at 01:50 PMWow so apparantly i did something right when i was there by chilling on frenchmans. I dont particularly enjoy stepping in puddles of Sludge that line bourbon and actual rats when they have all the garbage in the streetOriginally Posted by Camz

Protip: Do not eat at Mcdonald in the lower 9th ward lolol
I havent be able to even barely look at the golden arches since -
I love new orleans...such a magical place.
I heard that there is a weekend where they mimic the pamplona bull run but except the bulls are a bunch of girls with fake horns....when is this? -
Done and done! Too bad those Razz tips didn't end in me taking it down. I'm still not sure why I even entered that tourney in the first place? I'll hit you up in a couple of weeks.

so green day has been replaced by Metallica @ voodoo fest. I'm stoked beyond words; might actually have to go now

EDIT- lol attempting to rent a car in NOLA for Sat of 3rd to return it Sunday the 4th and enterprise is closed on Sundays..WTF?? I feel like that has to be a terrible business practice. Just lost one customer. -
We're going on a cruise that leaves from New Orleans. so only be there a night before the cruise and two nights after. Thanks for the other info. wife likes seafood so I'm sure she'll have a blast.

National WWII Museum is a must, especially if you have hours to take it all in. City tours are fun and interesting.
For eating (only second to the endless partying):
Mother's Restaurant for breakfast, but get there early or wait in line forever.
Grand Isle has great brisket and oysters.
Gordon Biersch Brewery has some great beer, for those who care.
Corner Oyster Bar & Grill was so so, but good football game watching atmosphere while munchinging on apps.
Much like chef Paul's, go to Emeril's for the date night. The duck wings, mac n cheese, and ribeye are top top. -
dude fwiw stay off bourbon as much as possible imo. party uptown on magazine or down on frenchman. bourbon is pittz. the cash at harrahs was ripe errytime i was there tho so def check that out. just a friendly h/u
-
also felipes for burritos recommend the "sweet jones" steak n shrimp obv..
-
+260000 to the cash games. Possibly the best 1/2 games of any casino in the country

Only a week and a half left!! I can't even explain how excited I am. I just saw that Metallica replaced Green Day. I'm pretty bummed that I'm going to miss Nas and Skrillex though. We're leaving on Sunday so I won't make it. I will probably go to Bourbon Street just for nostalgia's sake but will definitely take the advice and hang out more on Frenchman.
Thanks for the advice!! -
They generally have a drop box for after hours. Call and ask. We just had a truck in NY, Elmira and they even had a drop box and we dropped the truck off at 430AM.

Anyone else in NOLA?! French Quarter tonight?!
