I actually don't think most Christians are bad. I've met a few that I felt were genuinely good, kind (and non-judgemental) people. It's rather difficult to criticize the moralist perspective set forth by most Christian churches. Love your neighbor, don't steal, don't lie, don't kill, that's all good stuff. The problem is that there are people in the leadership that don't represent all of these values, and they give the rest of Christianity a bad name.
This is a video from the D.L. Hughley show that has an interview with Frank Schaefer. Frank is the son of Francis Schaefer, who was an integral part of the founding of the religious right.
If most Christians were as thoughtful and considerate (and intelligent) as this man, I would become a proponent of the Christian morality (though not a believer in any particular dogma). Unfortunately, most Christians are hypocrits (or lazy Christians, or racists, or other).

thats wierd. i thought he was a pompus ass. yeah, nothing judgemental about that clown. zactly who is this dude again?
-
Seems like a nice guy, but a) is religious, b) doesn't have anything interesting to say about politics/ideology (Bush bad, Rush bad, support the president...yawn). Not sure why he's on TV, I could get this from one of my neighbors.
-
Right, but I do think he is relevant considering his family background.

I get the impression your use of "pompous" is a misnomer in this case, but I'd be willing to be shown wrong. Also, calling someone a clown is just so weak. If you want to criticize someone, fine, but do so in a semi-thoughtful way. Merely dismissing them as a "clown" or a "goofball" is intellectually lazy to the extreme.

wait wait wait a second here. DL Hughley has a show on .........CNN?! What am I missing here?

About what I expected. You're one of the people he's talking about in the interview. You're a hypocrite. If you believed in the teachings of Jesus, you wouldn't be so sarcastic or dismissive (or a good word he used, crass). Christianity is a convenience for you. And you're basically the reason I turn into a reactionary agnostic.

hehe i thought it had a chance for 350 post. this place is sad without football to argue about.
-
Unlike some people who equate bashing of them with bashing of their religion, I've no problem with Christians or Christianity, as long as they stay off my religious freedom. Do that, and we're a-ok.
-
So weak. Dismissive and weak. And what a horrible Christian to seemingly take pride in the idea that I will be burning for eternity and you won't be. Fuck you.

I don't think it's the vast majority. I don't even think it's the majority. At least from my personal experience, something like 80% of religious folk are judgmental, bigoted or what has been demonstrated here, bad Christians.

I don't really think many Christians invest in their beliefs the way I would if I were a believer. They're lazy and don't want to form their own world view, so they take the one conveniently given to them. Then they continue to be the lazy and selfish people they always were. If they would invest in their "beliefs", they would recognize they are not practicing what they preach. -
umm this ^^^
