So my wife and I are in line at a popular chain sandwich shop during a busy lunch rush. We both order our food and get to the register. The guy punches in all the items and he announces the total of $20.05. I pull out a twenty and a one and he says "Don't worry about the nickel, I've got it." I hand him the twenty and start talking to the guy preparing my order about the stuff I want on my salad. I didn't hear the register close and I don't get a receipt (he didn't ask if I wanted one or not). I start to think that he pocketed the twenty and voided my order so it wouldn't show on the register. I don't make a scene of it and take our food to the table.
Start to talk to my wife about it and we piece together the story. She said that he was acting a bit odd after taking our money (giving me another cup for the soda when I had the original cup in my hand, insisting that we come to him when we came back for our dessert). We concluded that he most likely took the money and put it in his pocket. So.....
Do I say anything to the GM or do I let it go?
Edit: I agree with most of you that posted. I have no proof. So I don't say shit. Thank you for your candidness. -
So you did not see him pocket the money you just assumed he did? Easy call hang the phucker he has to be guilty.
-
getting a guy fired would hang on my conscience way more than a 'suspicious' transaction.
-
No reason to say anything. If he's stealing I'm sure he'll be caught. If he's not, then you'll look like an ass.
-
you got your food, paid your money, that ends your involvment in it imo. unless you have proof, let it go. the manager will figure it out one day if he is stealing.
-
I've worked retail and seen these scams from CSRs. You're right, I have no definitive proof. Just wanted to know if I send something to GM saying "watch out, you might be getting ripped off".

Sorry didn't mean to tilt...just asking a question.

If it was Subway tell him you appreciate him helping to bring that worthless company down. If it was another chain do nothing.

You were eating lunch at a random sub shop w/ your wife n' kid. Your child was acting out a bit and it appeared you really wanted to smack up upside the head.
You got up quickly, walked towards the parking lot grumbling and acting really weird.
Then, ya'll loaded up in the mini-van and sped away.
I got to thinking afterward... I really think you left so quickly cuz' you wanted to beat your child silly but, didn't want anyone to see you do it.
I took your license plate... I think i'm gonna call social services so they can take your child from you and do a full investigation.

So you took my license plate knowing that you might think about it later? Bad equivication FTW!
Not saying I would or wouldn't but the fact that he didn't give a receipt while all the other register people were giving them is curious. -
I don't get going outta your way to fuck w someone and you don't even know if he did anything at all. And is it really any of your fucking business?
-
I would hate to what you do if someone actually commits a crime in front of you and you have proof. Firing squad?
-
Probably not...I'm just asking the question. Judging from the responses here and the logic given, I won't.

Your "conclusion" makes me PUKE!
Don't worry, I'm a janitor by trade and i'll mop up my spill. -

No I didn't ask for a receipt. Probably should've. Would've saved you from getting upset at a P5s thread. The fact that everyone else was getting a receipt is suspicious. Also, I've worked as a manager and have seen various scams used by cashiers. From some of the responses on this thread, it sounds like this would be one except I didn't see the whole act.
The "acting odd" part was that he told my wife and I to talk to him specifically about our dessert. If you piece it together, he didn't give a receipt so he wants to make sure that we go through him so I don't say to another person "I didn't get a receipt". -
Not sure the type. It was an electronic interface. It has a near quiet roll when shutting but has a pretty distinctive click.

I say you email the GM; My GF was at a SBarro and this same situation occurred and we emailed the management and they thanked us (didn't even send us coupons or anything, like wtf? I bitched once to noodles about lack of cheese on my mac/cheese and got 2 free bowls, ship it!). In her situation she saw the guy put it in his pckt type of deal.
Fuck thieves imo
If you do email be sure to say you aren't positive but believe it happened; if they have a camera or something they can go back and look at the tape. -
