You will be surprised how easy it is to go from couch to 5K shape, not breaking 20 min or anything, but you should be able to run one in <40min with a month or 2 of fairly aggressive training. You can quickly lose motivation if you don't have a goal or goals set.
Mine was this 1/2 marathon this past November. I trained for 6 months and my motivation was to not embarrass myself so I worked my ass off. My sister ran it with me, and she is a bad ass. So I knew I had to work hard to avoid getting crushed by her. She beat me by 20 minutes which isn’t too bad, but then she went home, showered, and went to work. I was laid up on a couch and couldn’t move all day lol. But that was a big motivating factor for me --- knowing at the end of the training period I had a race to run, and I had to show up or I would endure some smack talk from family members.
Anything you can do like that to trick yourself into training harder can be beneficial, but FFS let your injuries heal before you start. Running with injuries can do permanent damage to your joints. And don’t increase your distance more than 10% from week to week. Pushing yourself too hard can cause injury as well. -

My wife and kid were at the mall last night at one of those fancy collectible stores. My kid was looking at all the snow globes they had in a display when an older couple walked by.
The old man leaned over and said to her, "That one has an angel in it that looks just like you. Do you like it?" My kid nodded yes and he said "Well I'm going to buy it for you. Merry Christmas." My wife was like you really don't have to but his wife was like it's no big deal, he loves the holiday season. He even paid to have her name engraved on it. It was almost $100.
So tonight my kid was staring at it and my wife walked by and asked her if she learned any lessons from what the guy did. She said, "Yeah daddy already told me this morning. If I'm pretty, men will buy me stuff."
I might be sleeping on the couch tonight. -

Edited By: Mr. Blonde Dec 22nd, 2011 at 03:03 AMhahaha thats awesome. Reminds me of the little girl eating a twinkie watching her daddy get a hair cut. She got a little too close and the barber said "Little girl you're gonna get hair on your twinkie"Originally Posted by LeftyMark

Lol she's sleeping now but I get a pic of her with it in the morning. It's actually pretty nice and plays music. No way I would spend that kind of money on it though.

LOOOOOOOOOOOL Jeopardy is so rigged. I have it on in the background while I am finishing up my poker session. Some lady just made a sick comeback against the 3-time defending champion dude. She got two daily doubles correct plus the last $2000 question right to take a $400 lead heading into Final Jeopardy. The FJ category? The NFL. LOOOOOOOOL women.

we get it, you play poker professionally
-
haha i was watching that too and thought the exact same thing. she looked legitimately pissed too
