so i got my first burn from a fire last shift. the bullshit thing about it is that it came from a piece of patio furniture. :/

a propane BBQ malfunctioned and basically blew up and set a 3rd floor patio ablaze. i got there after the fire was out and my job was to move crap around so we could tear up the floor and make sure the fire didn't extend down toward the condo below the patio. i didn't have my jacket on (no one did at this point) and grabbed a metal patio chair. walked it about 10 feet before i realized my skin was sizzling. lol. fml. mostly first degree but it bubbled up a little and that part's probably 2nd. i'm telling you guys because i'm not trying to tell anyone else on the job...

Had radiator fluid blow up in my face in college (overheating, radiator cap had two notches, one to release pressure, second to remove - I had only turned it one notch when closing last time I had checked it). Spewed fluid all over my face and chest (2nd and 3rd degree burns). Had to walk around campus with open shirt and jelly all over my face and chest. Got some sympathy BJ's out of it.

Damn I miss college.

My father is 70 years old. Retired teacher. Never one to take advantage of situations. Until recently.

When he was growing up, his best friend was the oldest son in a family of 8. He also dated his best friend's sister for a summer. Hadn't really thought about him or the sister for maybe 50 years though. So my dad is looking at buying a new car - a (MAJOR FOREIGN CAR COMPANY). My dad, even the vigilante buyer, does some research on the company. He looks at the company profile and sees the name of the president and it looks familiar. So he does some research - and finds out the president is the youngest brother of his best friend from school.

So he finds out what this guy's e-mail address and on a whim sends him some scanned pictures of him and his brother, sister, and even this guy as a baby, but include a comment about he's interested in buying a new car and was looking at his brand. About a week later, he receives and e-mail from the guy (not his admin, but from the guy himself) thanking for him the pictures, saying stuff about how he remembers him, etc. And if there is anything that he can do regarding the car, let him know. So my dad sends him an email back stating that he was looking for a car with specific specs and color and that he couldn't find it. About an hour later, he gets a call from the head of sales in New England telling him that if he is interested, they can ship the exact model that he was looking for in about a week, and offer it to him at employee prices.

A week later, my father is driving a new car at about $7000 less than what it would have otherwise cost him, and it is the exact model and color that he wanted. Considering that about 9 months my father blew out his right patella tendon and had to have it operated on twice, it's about time he got some run good.
