More conference expansion rumors: being reported now that UNC has an official offer to join the B1G, and that UVA or GT would be next if UNC accepted.
-
Bill Simmons just went on a rant on SVP & Russilo about college conferences and I fully agree.

Its such a money grab anymore that in a few years, there wont be any rivalries left. -
I suppose if more expansion is coming then UNC and Virginia would be nice additions. Would be really strange not seeing UNC in the ACC but getting even stronger in bball seems like fun.
-
I know, I know it's all about money and it's football dominated but god damnit I'll be so mad if they Duke/UNC rivalry is gone. We'd have to at least play once a year still as a non-conference match in basketball.

Reason: crazy i clicked quote on jaybone's post, he hadn't edited it YET, but when i wrote in my reply his edit was included in quote -
Yeah I heard Simmons as well, he also said something along the lines of his alma mater has given up on sports so he could care less about college sports. If he went somewhere relevant then he said he would care.
As long as they are playing basketball and as long as there's a tournament I couldn't really care too much about conference make-up.
Although, no UNC-Duke would suck. -

It became obvious over the course of the last few seasons that the Midwestern league had fallen behind the likes of the Big 12, Pac-12 and especially the ACC.

Football money controls the college conference landscape now. The schools arent thinking about basketball when making these decisions. Its pretty obv.

no one is adding UNC and UVA/GT because of their historic football dominance.
Although, fwiw, Georgia Tech became one of the 3 or 4 most dominant programs over a 15-year period in my NCAA 12 dynasty, so there's that. -
Not sure what ftfy means, but they might not be getting added for their football teams, but I bet they are going so they can get a share of the football money.

B1G gets more money adding UNC in basketball, UNC gets more money leaving ACC to join the B1G for football.
If it wasnt about money, this move wouldnt happen. -
I will say from what i understand its roughly 50 million (maybe more for unc) to leave the ACC basically three years dividends. and said dividends from what i gather are based off performance some deeper runs create bigger cheques

depends on what happens with the Maryland suit. the 50 million is not set in stone. lawyers will lawyer.

B1G diluting their mediocre football product for academics and basketball... gotta love it. -
Ya it truly is a shame tho like u say sullying their Football with the mighty heels LOLOLOL Then adding schools just to have a footprint in certain areas all while crushing tradition. And lets be realistic for UNC they;ll get crushed in Football and no longer be the top dawg in hoops all for the mighty dollar (Which by the way they have ALot of already)

no "assault weapon"? nbd obv -
Alright. I shouldn't have said it like that. But over the last 20 or so years the ACC has consistently been a better conference than the Big 10. I think KenPom is a great and all but his metrics favor teams that play a slow, methodical defensive style. Last time I looked he had Wisconsin 8th and Pitt 4th in his rankings. That's going to favor the Big 10 and they're 37-35 games.

I also don't know how long they have been doing it but the ACC has consistently handled the Big 10 in the ACC Big 10 challenge. The ACC is 82-61. I'm not sure about the Big 10's record. They tied 6-6 this year even though this has been a huge year for the Big 10 and a pretty pedestrian one for the ACC. In the 14 years they have been doing the challenge the ACC is 10-3-1. I obviously went and googled it
