    I was waiting for someone else to make a post about this, but I guess i'll do it... Seriously Leon Panetta for Director of the Central Intelligence Agency? I understand that the head of the CIA is sort of like being the vice-principal after the restructuring of our intel community post PATRIOT Act but Panetta has absolutely no experience in this field, and this pick makes no sense. I know Panetta has been an outspoken critic of torture and wiretaps, but how does that qualify him as the next head of the CIA?

    Color me disappointed for the first time in the transition period by a selection by the Obama team.

    It's like he decided to <strike>punish</strike> shake-up the agency by bringing in an outsider that they will never truly accept. That being said, Panetta is a genius and has had top level security clearance before so I'm willing to give him a chance before I condemn the selection.

    Yeah thats not funny Lefty. And I agree with you Pre that it seems like sort of a "shame on you CIA" appointment, it is a given that Panetta is great at agency management, but there were far more qualified candidates from within the agency.

    I, too, figured that this had already been covered since I'm not on during the day anymore. But it is a very lackluster pick. Dianne Feinstein is 2-2 in the last couple days on her critical thinking exercises, it's just unfortunate that this will get the rubber stamp in the end.

    He sat through how many daily presidential security briefings in his career? How many critical foreign policy decisions involving top level intelligence was he directly involved in? Yes he never worked directly for the CIA before, but to say he has NO intelligence experience is misleading at best.

    FWIW, I'm an Obama supporter and I don't think it's overtly racist. Certainly, given the context of this thread, I think the argument can rather easily be made that the picture is implying that we gave him just enough rope to hang himself, and now he is doing just that. I don't agree with that assessment, but I don't have a problem with the pic because of it.

    Now bring on the "You're from Alabama, you must be racist!" (<-not directed at UD since I know he wouldn't say that).

    I tried posting multiple versions of this photograph in a thread a while back because I was trying to make a point that war is bad.



    I even added the black bars myself, but some overzealous mod obviously got the vapors and kept deleting the photo. Because we wouldn't want to offend anyone by pointing out that hey, war is bad.

    But Lefty can post a pic of Obama being lynched and that's a-ok.

    Rockefeller hates the choice too, and at least from what ive seen in the news Panetta might have a tough confirmation fight, hopefully. I guess Obama wanted Hagel, which would have been awesome, but unsurprisingly Hagel was not interested.

    Um no it is a blatant reference to lynching our President Elect and if a Mod does not delete that then wow, so much for the legitimacy of this site.

    Having the clearance to previously be able to sit in on conversations and actually being immersed in the nuance of it are two completely different things.

    Um no it wasn't you moron. I took it down as requested by UD. It was used in the context of this thread and describing his decision making. But thanks for reading my mind and telling me what intent my post had.
