  1. NEW YORK (AP)—Major League Baseball has agreed to push back the start time of a potential World Series Game 6 by eight minutes to allow Democrat Barack Obama to purchase a half-hour of air time on the Fox network.

Baseball spokesman Pat Courtney said Thursday that the game time would now be set for 8:35 p.m. The Obama presidential campaign said Oct. 9 that it had bought the 8-8:30 p.m slot on CBS and NBC.

“Fox will accommodate Senator Obama’s desire to communicate with voters in this long-form format,” network spokesman Lou D’Ermilio said in a statement. “We are pleased that Major League Baseball has agreed to delay the first pitch of World Series Game 6 for a few minutes in order for Fox to carry his program on Oct. 29. If requested, the network would be willing to make similar time available to Senator McCain’s campaign.”

The World Series has not gone to a sixth game since 2003.

The decision was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

  9. can't we postpone the campaign to come together for some god damn baseball you fuckface. Stop interupting my shows! I can't wait until black history month, no disrespect intended to anyone but obama possible programming during my shows that whole month. Fuck I watch baseball to get away from this shit. For making us wait McCain should get equal time before his 8 minute delay when real ads normally run.
  10. i think obama should donate the money towards the federal deficit

    hes going to win anyway
  11. lol@a few million meaning anything to the Obama campaign

I'm confused...what exactly do you want?

    cap on individual donations? check

cap on gifts to politicians by lobbyists and other corruption-peddlers? check

ban on candidates/political parties receiving soft money? check

required disclosure of campaign finances, expenditures, and donors? check

  15. Please change title to "Ad execs force delay of World Series"
  16. cap on donations period, anyone gets only like 5 million for their campaign, anything above that goes towards "social programs"... a candidate should not be able to spend their way into public office... its a farce.
  17. lol@5 million for a campaign.

    But I see your point.

See Buckley v. Valeo for why you're wrong though.

  18. so, its not wasteful, unfair, and silly that a candidate can buy an election?

Free speech... bwahahahahahahahahahaha, my ass. Just b/c there is a supreme court ruling does not make it right, or mean that I am wrong.

It is my personal opinion that it is a farce that just because one candidate gets more money they can buy the election. It goes against the idea of a fair election... but hell we're going socialist anyway, so my capitalistic and consitutional ideals are meaningless.

What I think you're missing here is where the candidates' money comes from. It's not as though they flipped a coin and whoever won was somehow awarded more money than the other. Obama has more money than McCain because his message and his policy proposals have resonated more deeply with a greater number of people than McCain's have. To put it into "capitalistic" terms, he has put out a better product than McCain, and therefore more people have bought it. This in turn allows him to buy more advertising to sell more people the product and so on and so forth, I could stretch this analogy pretty far. This is the idea that many conservative writers dubbed "the marketplace of ideas."

Also, claiming to have "constitutional ideals" while saying "bwahahahaha" to the Supreme Court and the First Amendment is lol-worthy

  23. its 8 minutes ffs stop being whiny lil bitches
  24. here is the LOL...

Although the decision upheld restrictions on the size of campaign contributions, because it struck down limits on expenditures some argue that this precedent allows those with great wealth to effectively drown out the speech of average citizens. Among those criticizing the decision on this line was philosopher John Rawls, who wrote that the Court's decision "runs the risk of endorsing the view that fair representation is representation according to the amount of influence effectively exerted."
  25. Yes, because Obama has the greatest personal wealth of the two condidates and relies primarily on a select group of individuals giving the maximum each to fund his campaign.

  26. that's it, I'm voting repub!
  27. Hey, if you believe that it is fair to allow for one candidate (any one, not just Obama, any one) to just outspend their opponent, then that is NOT an advantage?

I am for a NATIONAL election fund. Both candidates get half of the fund. No one can outspend another. Period. Although, that would be fair, who in a socialist world would want fairness, silly me.

    WP Sir.
  29. I love the passive aggressive title of this thread. Wouldn't it be the MLB exec and the network who "forced the delay?"
  30. 8 mins omg that's like 2 at-bats in the typical red sox game. whatever, no big deal, i wouldn't care if McCain did the same thing.
