I understand how important this election was to black Americans and what it means to so many of them. Although I don't agree with Obama on a lot of issues and did not vote for him I support him 100% as the future President of the United States. Having said this, I have so many questions I just don't understand or have the answers to. Following Obama's election I was driving downtown (Chicago) and was stuck in traffic with the thousands of Obama supporters. At this time I lost track of the number of blacks walking around chanting ridiculous things such as "black power" and holding up a black power salute. I truly do not understand this reaction. I also don't understand if I should be upset by their reaction or not. I don't know what I am supposed to think.

At least five people were arrested across the city after Barack Obama's rally in Grant Park, including a woman who slapped a Chicago police officer, saying police couldn't arrest her anymore, prosecutors said today.
Most of the others celebrated the historic occasion with gunfire.
Celita Hart, 19, stood silently in court today when she appeared for a bond hearing.
Prosecutors said Hart, who is black, yelled " 'White [expletive], [expletive] McCain--you white police can't do nothing anymore.'" With that, she reached through the window of a squad car and slapped a white male officer in the face, according to Assistant State's Atty. Lorraine Scaduto.
The incident occurred after police responded to a crowd of people celebrating Obama's win on the corner of 69th Street and Western Avenue. Hart, of the 7100 block of South Rockwell Street, was charged with aggravated battery of a police officer and was ordered her held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
I know this is not the mentality of everyone but, its disturbing that anyone at all thinks its ok to act this way. -

well, out here in los angeles the celebrations were beautiful. no violence or ill will. just a bunch of people in the streets celebrating a great win for a great man and president.

People wonder why racial stereotypes still exist today? Take a look at this behavior. I know it's not indicative of everybody, however this is just ridiculous.

I work in the south Loop...
I get into work yesterday, and there are a few large black women walking in front of me when one of their friends joins in...they are all happy and giggly...carrying a cake and other treats saying "today we're going to celebrate as one of us finally made it" -

she got her punishment, end of story. I can think of at least a million things I care more about than a cop getting slapped by an overly excited girl that doesn't know how to act. it really isn't a big deal.

It is NEVER OK to physically attack a law enforcement officer. Period. Anybody who doesn't have a problem with her striking the officer has something fundamentally wrong with the way they think. -
