Under the new rules, which go into effect on Monday, all U.S. health insurance companies must offer women free birth control and other preventive health care services, including the morning-after pill.
Pretty monumental stuff. Thoughts? -
Oh hell, I can't wait to see how much my insurance costs go up during this year's Open enrollment.

should be a mandatory for anyone on welfare with more than 3 kids, as well as drug tests, as well as capping all welfare benefits at 3 children/family of 5 (we all know i mean 4)

insurance company: "lemme go ahead and fix that..." *tweaks premiums accordingly* -
Problem Graham is that many with so many kids aren't on health insurance other than Medicaid so.......
-
I'm just sick of seeing people driving around in brand new benzes, and paying for everything with their access card. And continuing to pop out kids so they can live in bigger houses, and get a bigger monthly check.

I think we should the insurance companies go bankrupt, that way people will actually see how much things cost. And then maybe they will be willing to make the changes to reduce these costs.

Which is basically Obamacare but on a smaller scale. -
good, I don't want no more baby jesters running around
the world only needs two of them, trust me -
what's the big deal?
-
do I get free condoms, or is it just for the whor- er, responsible broads.
lol @ free.
(pro-birth control fwimfw) -
I like it if it gets more people on birth control.
-
I say in order for a black woman to get welfare white men are granted prima nocta. If we can't get em out we'll breed em out
-
pay for others BC>pay for other peoples kids
-
This can only possibly be +EV for society.
-
This needs to go farther. Anyone receiving welfare should be forced to take birth control, or at the very least receive it with their check or whatever they get every month.

Great, mandatory coverage with no copay, even if you don't want it. Sweet. It's already free for low income people. This is a wonderful idea. There should be a penalty for people who don't use it when the Department of Health and Human services think they should be using this coverage, I mean to make sure that the goal of more healthy women is met. What about free vasectomies? What about free adoptions?
Here's some more of the mandated "free" coverage.
"Other services recommended by IOM include screening for gestational diabetes, testing for human papillomavirus (HPV) in women over 30, counseling for HIV and sexually transmitted infections, lactation counseling, screening for domestic violence and yearly wellness visits".

A small but important factoid is that you still have to have a health insurance policy to get this coverage. -
If this is true, how is this a bad thing again?
-
only read OP, but i would imagine this should save a ton of $ in healthcare costs.

You have a good imagination. What do you think will happen to the cost of these mandated services? Do you really think that mandating coverage and eliminating copays will cause a significant number of these already insured people to seek that care who would not have otherwise?

I don't. -

I do -
im just talking in over all healthcare of the society. and i don't know enough about the program to say for sure, but things like this, some education and maybe some incentive to get preventive checkups would save a ton in overall healthcare costs, i would think. obv i'm sure the insurance comps will pass the cost on, but they prob wont pass the savings on when/if there are people being healthier and having fewer babies, who one day may need healthcare.
kinda like the freakonomics thing where it would actually be cheaper prob to buy an apt and food and stuff for a homeless alcoholic guy then to have him live on street and get drunk and sick and stuff and go to emergency room.
i may have been wrong about this actual program saving money, but if people were smart and healthcare industry was actually about getting/keeping people healthy, then it would be pretty easy to have it cost a lot less imo. -
How we gonna make sure people take the pills they get? Hey, I watch Teen Mom, so I know these girls had birth control pills in their possession, but forgot to take them. Some day we will learn that micromanaging people lives for them doesn't work, even if the intention is good.

When you boil it down, a healthier society is dependent on individual decisions and choices, not government mandates.
