John McCain ... "i support the president's initiative and i enoucourage both republicans and democrats to do the same" - does not support putting a time limit on the troops being there - post speech interview

  5. Um...what?
  6. July 2011 is when he said he would bring all the military out of Afghanistan.
  7. Taken together, these additional American and international troops will allow us to accelerate handing over responsibility to Afghan forces, and allow us to begin the transfer of our forces out of Afghanistan in July of 2011. Just as we have done in Iraq, we will execute this transition responsibly, taking into account conditions on the ground. We will continue to advise and assist Afghanistan's Security Forces to ensure that they can succeed over the long haul. But it will be clear to the Afghan government - and, more importantly, to the Afghan people - that they will ultimately be responsible for their own country.

Would help the credibility of your insightful commentary if you spelled it correctly.

Edit: I see you edited the title.

And nope, it didn't help your commentary.

  9. Sax, McCain's quote you are clinging to is a total support of our troops, not necessarily the ideas of President Obama.
  10. I like his plan, but only half a plan it makes. He needs to get after those(Countries, Individuals) that support Al Queda.

you may be right HK - i'm just quoting what i saw in the interview. No doubt that McCain is a huge supporter of the troops and kudos to him for that. This is of enormous interest to me b/c my wifes nephew was one of the first canucks killed in combat there and her neice is now there as an MP. A lot of Americans (not saying you are one) feel that this is just an American issue but it is not. Whether we like it or not, you guys are calling the shots in this conflict and we're all hoping for the best along with you all. We support our troops (and yours) and sometimes politics gets in the way. Fuck the politics and lets do whats right.
  13. I like your attitude saxman, actually, I love you attitude! Let's get these fuckers as one!

Well that's just stupid. I mean, really, a complete misunderstanding of the issues involved wrapped up in a meme cooked up by people who are not arguing in good faith, regurgitated by a drone who thinks an open ended commitment to a land war in a part of Asia that has already destroyed two other global empires is a good idea.

Just one? Fine. The President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, is a Muslim. Pakistan has, in recent months, stepped up its efforts to drive out the Taliban and Al Qaeda from Pakistan. They are a necessary partner with the United States in fighting against terrorism. Pakistan is a nuclear power and it is vital that they do not become radicalized or allow their nuclear security to be breached in order to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists.

It would be silly to give Obama all the credit for Pakistan's cooperation, but it would also be really stupid to suggest that Obama has done nothing or that our efforts at diplomacy with Pakistan have borne no fruit.

LOL, really? You're comparing the continued presence in Korea to Afghanistan? The beauty of the OT conservative squad is that even the veterans occasionally just say something so mind-bogglingly stupid that people can just sit back and go, "Whoah. That is mind-bogglingly stupid."

    Pakistan? Really?

    From the WSJ:

Now those surveys of 2009 bring findings from the world of Islam that confirm that the animus toward America has not been radically changed by the ascendancy of Mr. Obama. In the Palestinian territories, 15% have a favorable view of the U.S. while 82% have an unfavorable view. The Obama speech in Ankara didn't seem to help in Turkey, where the favorables are 14% and those unreconciled, 69%. In Egypt, a country that's reaped nearly 40 years of American aid, things stayed roughly the same: 27% have a favorable view of the U.S. while 70% do not. In Pakistan, a place of great consequence for American power, our standing has deteriorated: The unfavorables rose from 63% in 2008 to 68% this year.

Were still at war with Korea are we not? I was just wondering, I didn't catch the speech. Maybe the Saints will be kind enough to publish there playbook and game plans before each game. That would be cool.
