Dems had chip lead before Hillary and backers donked it at the Nat. Convention.
Reps surged when Palin was selected.
Reps lost chip lead when Palin started speaking.
Will the debate tonight felt Palin or is it too late to drop her? -
Sigh, there is so much spin and garbage spewing in politics.
I'd rather have a less polished true person in office than a polished liar.
Edit - both party candidates are polished liars, imo. -
Pretty sure the whole $ crisis has a lot more to do than Palin's interviews with Katie Couric.
-
Are you saying Palin is true but not polished?
-
I'd say 0% chance she gets dropped at this point, it'd reflect too poorly on McCain even if they said she wanted to spend more time w/ her family which is a perfectly reasonable excuse.
Intrade says 9% chance. -
I'm not making any comment on Palin in particular.
I just don't think we will never have someone who can truly offer change.
All candidates are part of the machine. They are all crooks, and sadly, I have no faith in the power hungry people who occupy Washington, DC. Claiming that they have the best interests of the American Public at the top of their priorities.
Please explain how Obama willingly took over 100K in contributions from Fannie Mae/Feddie Mac? As well, his knowledge and involvement in the mess that is those two corrupt enterprises is far greater than he lets on. Its a farce.
McCain is an angry old man looking to leave his imprint on history. A career liar.
Obama is also a liar with no significant leadership history.
Both are garbage, both are liars, and we'll never get the type of person we really need to be president. Those people are too smart to bother trying to be a politician. -
How's about a good looking retard?

I agree with mrmenlo15, he can't drop her now. Choosing her really changed my view of him, he was tolerable before. Now he has to ride it out hoping she doesn't totally bomb. If she can hold it together it'll come down to the pres. debates and on which party can mobilize it's voters best - usually Republicans. Then I think there are some key delegate states as per Gore/Bush.
-
I think its too late to drop her as well, its like when a GM or coach for a football team selects a bad draft pick with their 1st pick and pay him alot, even if he sucks they still play him to not make themselves look bad.
-
unless it's revealed she previously had electro shock therapy, like mcgovern's vp pick in '72, odds are slim to none, snowball's chance, pigs flying etc... (mcgovern had to drop Sen Eagleston after his mental problems were revealed, fine job in vetting)
-
They definitely keep her on so that they can dish 100% of the blame on her when they lose the election.
Unless, of course, Pelosi gives another one of those mind-altering speeches.... -
He keeps her either way. New VP is not changing any votes at this point. McCain lost the election when he failed to champion the resistance to the bailout. He's a washington guy and he doesn't seem capable of sensing a good political opportunity and seizing it.
Get your prayer rugs ready and start listening to those Spanish tapes. -
I didn't realize that scoring an 'A' in a Katie Couric interview was a prerequisite for becoming VP. Someone should show me the link on that one. I'd rather judge her on the job she's doing right now as Governor of Alaska. 80% approval rating is just sick.

It's actually down to 68%, still good but it seems like she has upset some Alaskans.

How can anyone not want this fireball on their ticket?

agrii completely as she still does a great job in her actual job but that said I think she is gone if she blows it. The evidence that house mom turned politician who is too busy for anything but those things in her life are fine (hell Quayle was a good vp) but she needs to stfu. If he can replace her with another woman, no idea who, it would probably help him more than hurt him. Maybe a female senator? I haven't thought about it but that crossed my mine. I still think she would do the job great -as her track record suggests- I am just worried she doesn't think enough before speaking. I understand in Alaska she didn't go to law school or study supreme court cases thousands of miles away but most people could come up with the l.a. Times or Washington post or ny times. I likkkke she is one of us in a real world way but how long can I hope she is just nervous on camera and locks up that part of her brain?.... But she is honest and a good executive and that's what would matter in our actual life outside soundbites whereas a lying president Obama is a bigger concern as America gets scammed.

I think she'll do reasonably well. I would guess Biden will back it off because it's honestly somewhat tough to debate a woman. Just ask Rick Lazio when he tried to get HRC to sign a pledge during a debate.
Biden can't come across as condascending and I think Palin will be really prepared. Debates are easier than interviews IMO.
Now it will be interesting to see how many questions Palin has to answer first. Obama got a significant amount during the first debate (no one really talked about this). -
But can anything top this?

i thought about Obama answering first often and the realllly helps him bite off what he thinks McCain will say and make it his own first but I didn't think anyone here would want to hear than from my side. It's not his fault he got to go first. He was in position and was aggressive with his chips, wp imo, lucksack. Haha.

I think OT should turn this into a drinking game.
Everytime she says "Maverick" 1 shot
Everytime she says "Gods Will" 1 shot
I will call your local E.R.'s and inform them that there will be many alcohol poisoning cases comming their way. Set up the Triage. -
I agree pretty much.
Anyone who has seen video of Governor Palin debating in Alaska during her election in 2006 knows that she is pretty good at this. The debate format really plays into her strengths, especially the one they are using tonight.
I expect she will do just fine.
Clay brings up a good point about the Bentsen/Quayle debate. Bentsen absolutely destroyed Quayle in that debate, made him look silly. And Bush still pummeled Dukakis in the election. The VP selection just doesn't mean much. I'm not sure if it should or not, but it doesn't. -
funny I have lower expectations for her than dolphin. I hope you're right. Hard to believe it comes down to who is a bigger card rack. If she can start first and ass rape him against the ropes and put him on defensive in a strong area of hers it could help. Normally I would say talk as long as possible to cover everything first but in her case she needs to be short, aggressive, give real strong examples he can't rip apart and move on by transitioning into some rah rah middle America cheerleading bullshit. That works well for women.
-
WOW! I didn't know that. So someone has been worse than Ross perots admiral running mate? Ufb. Didn't think it was possible!
-
I don't like relating to what happened in the past. It's like saying the Dolphins are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games against the Chargers.
Being that she's the first female VP in the Repub party, I dont' really care about the historical importance of a VP. -
so I'm not the only one whose eyes roll everytime I hear maverick -even if true. Just seems like where she goes when she doesn't know the answer.edit: like Obama goes to blaming republicans for this mess and do you want 8 more years when he has no good answer. We should drink to that in the next pres debate.
-
true, its understood the magnifying glass is stronger on a chick. Just ask Ferraro who has made a living off it even after losing.

I'd like to strangle that bitch. she whines more than any politician I've ever seen. Anything said against HRC was a sexist comment according to her.
-
Relatively small sample size on whether or not VP debates mean much. This one certainly could. A lot of people are fearful that this person would take over as POTUS if the...72 year old man goes down. I've heard 4-1 if he goes two terms. Obviously there's no way to know her odds though.
