You guys both sounds retarded, fwiw.
Edited By: BubbaKGB Apr 19th, 2011 at 06:53 AM
Detroit is obviously a huge hockey town, and although this is just off the top of my head, I do believe the Detroit Red Wings draw the highest average attendance as a visiting team (somebody told me this or I read it somewhere).
Also, the fact that a Canadian-based team hasn't won the cup in x amount of years really has no bearing on anything so I'm not sure why it's being discussed. No real fans think that way, or at least none of the people I know do. Everybody has their team to support, and that's it, nobody is keeping score between which country's teams win more because it doesn't matter at all. Unless it's an international event the country debate is beyond ridiculous; a Canadian team could have more American plays than Canadian and an American team could have more European players than American, who cares? -
its not about a country... its about my team winning the cup 20% of the time the last 20 years

I do believe Canada is a country and I spot the word 'Canadian' in the above sentence twice. But yeah, I see your point, it's not about country for you at all...Originally Posted by shallowcal
wait when was the last time a canadian team won the cup? oh thats right we have won it 4 times since ANY canadian team has even so much as sniffed it.
W/e, you win, I don't want to become part of the retarded argument. -
lol i was just stating the fact that the canadian teams have better fansbases which is true. i know detroit has good fans. the reason they draw so well on the road is bc they have many transplanted citizens
i spit facts. these are not retarded statements.
next time i post im gonna spew some ignorant bs i guess, maybe go over better with u guys -
Edited By: BubbaKGB Apr 19th, 2011 at 07:16 AMSick factual support you have there for the claim that 'Canadian teams have better fan-bases than Detroit'. I'd really like to see what you were looking at while you were posting this 'fact'. Just because you think something is true doesn't mean it's a fact. That statement isn't really something that can be substantiated by statistics so you claiming it's a fact is rather absurd, especially when we're talking about a team like Detroit.Originally Posted by chancemcc

You also just said they get a lot of fans on the road because of Detroit transplants, which is contradictory to your argument; obviously, fans who support the Wings from the new cities they move to are a huge indication of a large fanbase, lol.
Yes, most American teams do not have fan-bases that can compare to the Canadian teams. Detroit isn't one of those teams. -
Doubt Chance is real.

However, At home Detroit fills 98.5% of the seats, on the road 99.6%, which is the highest. Not quite sure what that means when you fill more seats on the road then at home? Probably lol Detroit economy
I was surprised to see the leafs in the 20's, you can say there are no leaf fans abroad but just watch games, especially in the south. I went to a game in TB and there were more leaf fans than lightning fans.
Attendance stats are weird tho, 6 teams avg over 100% and all depends on Arena's cap of seats. -
Downie and Kunitz both got 1 game suspensions for their hits last night.

And Seabrook is out for tonight's game -
kunitz is a punk for that. hadnt seen that before, but that was pretty obvious what he intended to do there
-
I spoke just a little too soon on this, that is disgusting what kunitz did there. No reason at all for that in the game anywhere

"That might have been the biggest I've ever seen in all the years I've been here," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "On the road we've had some unbelievable crowds, but tonight, that was a good crowd."
-
I went to a Leafs game in TB in 2001 I think, game was during the Canadian spring break, so everyone was on Vacation in Florida. Was just like that.
-
I was expecting something like 50/50. The Lions & Tigers had pretty big turnouts in Tampa when I went, but nothing like the Wings. The weird thing is, as shitty a sports town as Tampa is, they seem to get more excited about the Lightning than any other team. So I'm surprised it happens so frequently. I remember the sports talk radio the next day was just a bunch of people pissing and moaning about playing an away game at home.

Thrown out for a long time? No. He should have got 2 games. Hes not a repeat offender and Marleau did this earlier this season and got 2 games bc of his clean record. So 2 games would have been much better here.

Okay,
• Detroit has a strong fan base (at home and on the road), Canadian teams also have a strong fan base (esp Toronto, Montreal <-- both are extremely loyal).
• Detroit made the playoffs 20 years in a row, Fantastic record that is hard to catch but I think St. Louis already did this until late.
• Detroit won 4 cups in 20 years, HUGE feat in today's game as we will have a difficult time trying to find a dynasty BUT I'm pretty sure Montreal has done this several times.
• I guess a better team would be one that has the most championships. Sorry, not Detroit.
• Off the top of my head, better sport franchises would be: (MLB) Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees; (NBA) LA Lakers, Boston Celtics; & (NHL) Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs.
Contrary to your jargin/beliefs, I think you'll find this post to be factual (Google to discredit). To your team's credit, I have selected them to come out of the West as I believe they are the best team in hockey right now. Hopefully my Flyers will meet up with your boys in the final. -
you cant compare franchises from different eras to teams in the new era... sorry bud. how many teams were around when montreal and toronto won most of their championships? how can you say the leafs are a better franchise??? thats LOL funny, when was the last time they won the cup? hell, when was the last time they made the finals?

Solid "facts" bud.

By some of the logic used above, the Houston Comets should come into the equation since they've won 4 WNBA rings in 11 years.

Don't insult the leafs in a post that is not a reply to one of mine.

The franchise is awful but there are millions of fans who are loyal to the team even when they are bad. You can't blame the fans who bleed blue and white that the ownership cares more about money than winning.
I think Hecklerz means fans when he says franchise,
You are talking about the management when you say franchise.
Two very different things, and don't judge fans by the one who are at games in the ACC, real fans are unable to get tickets, there are tons of season ticket holders who dont even care about hockey. -
i would never doubt any leafs fans... but read his post... i mean come on.

leafs have great fans. very loyal. you can tell when they come over from windsor when they play the wings, its a crazy electric atmosphere the entire day.
but as a franchise they are not anywhere in the red wings realm -
let's go sharks!
