1. Who wants in?

I know lots of you guys dabble in or are serious gym goers but I want to make this thread a place where people can ask questions or share workouts and supplement/diet advice to be a better you for the New Year.

Were not getting any younger and going to the gym can only help in life. You may want to shed a few pounds for the wife, impress a girl you work with or just change your lifestyle for the better.

I encourage all of you to draft up a personal diet/workout program for the New Year and see where it takes you.

Personally I would like to cut up a LOT. I have never had a 6pack in my life and I'd like to try and get there or close this year. It all comes down to diet which I usually can hammer out for a few months then I get lazy.

  5. Ok, I work out 4-5x a week. I eat pretty healthy, certainly not perfect.

I am really skinny if I don't lift, but I am not trying to get huge.

I never take any supplements, what you take BigEarn?

For the past 4 months or so just protein and fish oil pills. I am going to start taking a pre-workout again which has creatine in it. I've cycled an all natural testosterone booster for a cycle about a year ago and that gave me good mass gains but I also had a pretty flawless diet/lift schedule during that time so that probably helped a lot.

This thread wasn't designed to be "about me" or anything like that, I just felt the need to respond after SoCal decided to get cute and call me out when I am just trying to inspire myself and others to make a healthy change this upcoming year. I'm curious for DBo to post in this thread as he is a pretty big guy and knows a lot about workout out/supplements, etc.

  12. I just wanna lose my slight belly so that I am a cut svelte 160 for my 5'6" frame. I'm not far off from it and all the women I ask say that I look good.

Its silly, and I guess that lots of people don't understand because I've had a few people get a bit mad at me because I say things like I'm fat. I am currently 165~ and when I look down I see a belly. Its not out of control but its not flat, and there is no six pack, well perhaps there is one, but not the one I want down there.

Picture below. It is sad that I don't consider myself really "fit." Its even sadder that I'm in better shape that most of the people I know my own age (39 years old). So, picture below, I'm about 165~ as well below. Picture was taken July of this year. I'm not running down to the mirror to take a picture now. I look the same as I do below.

Remember, I like to call myself "fat." Man does that piss off people in ways that I would not expect, but fuck it, I'm not a flat belly, so what does that make me? Chubby? Sigh... anyway, my goal is to lose that fucking fat hanging over the edges of my bathing suit below. Already started some fucked up isometrics for my abs.

I want to get into crossfit stuff, it seems pretty intense.

I'm also curious to see once I get a job how easy it will be to eat 5-6 meals a day on that schedule.

Ya man for 39 that isn't bad at all. I bet if you knocked out some cardio 2-3 times a week and adhered to a real strict diet you could be where you wanted in 2-3 months easily. Do you gym or anything regularly ? How is your diet?

It is pretty intense. Here are some sample workouts:

Do 8 reps of 8 sets of these 8 exercises:

    Hang Power Clean
    Front Squat
    Push Press
    Burpees
    Pullups
    Dips
    Box Jumps
    Situps

    Do 5 sets of this:
    Run 400 M
    30 situps
    15 Deadlifts

Obviously the weight on the deadlifts should be tough and people scale the weight ot their ability for all exercises

    Another one:

    Do 80 squats
    10 Shoulder Press
    60 Squats
    20 Shoulder Press
    40 squats
    30 Shoulder Press
    20 Squats

I suggest you look at the typical workouts at www.crossfitnyc.com

  19. Diet is sick (healthy).

5 days a week I eat oatmeal for breakfast with 8oz of V8 - also take 2000mg of Fish Oil, and 1000mg of Vitamin C with breakfast. I will have a small salad of romaine hearts at 11am with a little balsamic vinaigrette. Then for lunch I eat lean turkey, with provolone cheese, on whole wheat bread. I'll have about 20 baked lays chips with the sandwich. This is literally every day for 5 days a week. People make fun of me because I tell them I eat for fuel and not for the taste... although I think everything I eat tastes good. Then dinner is usually a home prepared meal in which I do not add anything really fattening. We eat two veggies a night with nothing added to them, just flat out warm veggies (my kids will eat any veggie you put in front of them except brussel sprouts, sick brag). With dinner I take another 4000 mg fish oil, a men's multivitamin, and a b-complex. I've been adding some glucose-amine and condroitin pill to dinner b/c I'm old and that shit helps with joint lubrication.

Weekends I eat brunch instead of breakfast / lunch. Then I will have something like Chinese one night, and I like making home made cheese steaks one night a week on the weekends. I drain out all the grease and fat, so they are not totally unhealthy.

I don't snack much at all.

My lungs are just getting to the point where I am going to start doing some running. I am doing a small cardio workout right now but its tempered as my lungs keep healing from 20 years of smoking and not doing cardio. I plan to start running seriously in 2012, as well, I'm getting my soccer referee license again, so that will get my ass in shape by doing games every weekend.

I can reach my goal. I know it. I purposely never let myself get too "big" and now my metabolism is slowing down finally. Its time to extend my physical enjoyment of life by getting my shit back into sexified middle-aged shape. I already have middle-aged women throwing pootie at me already... now I want the hot ones to throw it at me, not just the 2's and 3's... hahahahaha, OT scale obv.

  25. I've been doing minimalist training and dieting for about 8 months now.
I do deadlifts, chins, handstand pushups and mix in power cleans and military press every now and then.
I have been trying to skip breakfast as much as possible, being a coffee addict makes it pretty easy though. I try to pound down all of my calories right after a workout or about 1 hr before beddybye, but don't get too worked up if I don't.

This year I'll try to focus on getting more protein in my diet, maybe eat cleaner (but that sucks) and keep progressing with the deadlift and maybe start doing some sprinting. Although, to be frank, running sucks.

I have been using www.fitocracy.com to log workouts. It's pretty cool. I dunno if you need an invite to join, but If you do pm me your email and I'll ship one out. GL OT.

  26. ok help me then. I joined the gym, hubby too (he isn't allowed to lose his stomach tho, yes i have fetishes) but anyways, been slacking cuz been sick whatever. problem is, i can't gain weight. i want to gain. when i did go, i'd fing lose more weight. i want to GAIN, muscles. but, i don't want man arms, so i don't want to be all cut either. i dunno how to explain this for what a girl to look like without having man arms. though yes, i do notice a gain a little when i lift, my problem is, i probably burn over 1k calories at work (prob more when its busier but its pretty slack now). and i guess i don't eat enough to make up for this. i have changed what i eat to mass quantities of protein but that just made me shed like 20lbs that i didn't want to lose, though i'm fat, i wanna keep some of it obv. sigh i dunno. i can eat garbage all day and shit doesn't happen. i have some sick reverse metabolism that is just kicking in now cuz i was always fat, shed the 100, and now im losing more and i dun wanna cuz i want babies :(

oh how bad would it look if i go to the gym when prego? cuz its gonna happen

  30. I probably need to do something soon or I'm going to die. I eat OK (could eat healthier of course) but my exercise is minimal and my alcohol consumption is excessive.

I joke about alcoholism a lot (and even made a song about it), but the fact is I do drink too much, and increased alcohol consumption is clearly the cause of my weight gain over the last year or so. I don't wake up in the morning and drink, or get sick, or black out, or have uncontrollable impulses or anything like that ... but I probably have about 20 drinks each week, spread out over 3 days. It's basically a reflex for me to make myself a drink when I am going through stress. The last year has been very, very stressful on me ... for the purposes of this post it doesn't matter why. Plus I drink on weekends when we go out to have a good time. I envy the people who say that the gym is their stress reliever, because it has never been that for me.

I'm moving to Costa Rica in January. I have no idea what the grocery and gym situations will be like, but I'm going to try my best to get physically healthy in 2012. There are a lot of things I can't control, but if I went from horribly unhealthy and out-of-shape to at least how physically fit I was in college, then 2012 will likely be a net win for me.

I'm happy to hear any practical advice.
