  1. I'm going to dedicate this year to consistently reading new books. 6 months after graduating college I've realized I havn't really learned anything new and the internet doesn't supplement what books can do for me. Goodbye TV hello Knowledge

First book I bought today is The Next Convergence: The Future of Economic Growth In a Multispeed World by Michael Spence. Personally I plan on rotating book genres between Economics, Self Growth, Money Management and Agriculture.

Post any good reads or reviews and maybe we can get some discussion going. Also interested in what books you have read in the past that might be good to read. Thanks
  2. The Book of Basketball

    By Bill Simmons

  3. The Arabs - Eugene Rogan

Making Globalization Work - Joseph Stiglitz
  4. Currently reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. Just finished Zeitoun by David Eggers, a nonfiction work about a Syrian-American who stuck around to protect his properties in New Orleans during Katrina, helped rescue lots of trapped people with his canoe, and was then obviously arrested on suspicion of being a terrorist and taken to a Guantanamo-lite camp and held without charge or lawyer for a while. Pretty amazing story told by a great writer.

    The movie was good too.

Plan on reading this when I get a chance:

Based on the reviews I've read it's the best King book in a long time.

lol, fair question... I wonder how many hours a week people read OT?
  17. For me it depends on the week. Last 2 weeks i've been working every damn day on my computer so i've been in here like 12 hours a day on and off. Pretty ridiculous.
  18. Lawrence Lessig's "Republic, Lost: How Money Corrupts Congress-- and a Plan to Stop It"

Saw his interview on The Daily Show. Seemed interesting. Book is basically about the role of lobbyists in American politics.
  19. currently reading.. Outliers--malcom gladwell
  20. Just finished reading Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell (very good) and Justice by Michael Sandel, a Harvard professor which was also very good.

About to read How to win at the Sport of Business by Mark Cuban (just a short 67 page ebook, based off his blog which I highly recommend blogmaverick.com)

For entertainment, reading the Hunger Games trilogy
  21. mostly bridge(the card game) books.

Are you reading it straight through? Last year I go it for Christmas and read it straight through, but kind of wish I had saved it and jumped around more. Still a good book to have around the house and read for a half hour when you have some free time.

I get a lot of my book recs from just watching guests on this show. Ready to start watching it again (as I talk about TV in a book thread...).

As for me, I am reading "Der Kleine Nick" which is a German translation of "Le Petit Nicholas", meaning Little Nick (my name is Nick). It's like a 2nd grade reading level but good for me since I'm picking up a couple of new words per page but I don't have to constantly stop and either skip over words or look them up.
  23. i started the dune series late last year, so i'm still on that. also finishing if on a winter's night a traveler.

then moving onto the girl w/ the dragon tattoo series

Read this book a few years back and really liked it. Believe there is a second one out now. Much easier read than The Three Pillars of Zen.

Also, reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Pretty damn interesting so far.
  25. Right now im reading "Justice : What's the right thing to do" by Michael Sandel. Its about moral philosophy in the public related to the big issues of our time. Its pretty interesting if justice and law is your thing.
  26. In this order (hopefully):

    The Hobbit
    Family Wealth
How to win friends and influence people
    Oil 101

    The Hobbit again

  28. It's Outliers - The Story of Success and it looks at the lives of highly successful people (ex: Bill Gates) and tries to explain how they became successful. Also argues that the way we understand success is wrong and has a bunch of compelling arguments and stories
