I'm a big fan of watching these kids every year, really fascinating to see how they respond to different situations and pressure.
If anybody wants to bet against me these are my parameters.
Must bet every American game.
We will alternate every game as to who picks the team they want first. That team is deemed the favorite and gets 10 bucks for a win. The other team gets 12 dollars for a win.
No run lines wins and losses only.
If your team gets mercy ruled you have to pay double for that game.

I used to really enjoy it and I still do to some extent. It just annoys me that these kids don't play with leads and that the field is too small. They should be pitching from 50' and the bases should be 70'. Most all of these kids play on club teams that play with regular baseball rules anyway. I remember back when a Colorado little league team went to SB and Waco for regionals a few years in row, they always got the sportsmanship award because they were a real little league team with no competitive club players and not a mercenary squad.

it's very offputting when all these little fags are named Cody or Tanner or Cunter or whatever.
-
Willy, what do you mean "don't play with leads?"

Last night at the gym I ran on the treadmill for 38 minutes. I don't plug my headphones into the TV because I prefer to listen to music, so it's essential to find a channel that I can watch that doesn't require sound. ESPN and ESPN2 are my go to vices.
Anyway, last night was the Little League Worlds Series on ESPN and women's tennis on ESPN2. I flipped through both before settling on the LLWS.
Needless to say it was the worst run of my life. That shit is unbearable.
I went from watching the Olympic games to LLWS. First world problems... -
The base runners cannot lead off. They cannot leave the base until the ball crosses the plate. As a result, the pitchers all go from a wind up (no stretch, no pick offs). Very little stealing. No interesting first and third situations. At 12 years old they are perfectly capable of pitching from a stretch. Hell I've got 9 (now 10) year olds that pitch from a stretch. In fact we started everyone pitching only from a stretch and toiward the end of teh season we expanded into wind ups. In my opinion it just retards their development, including catchers and infielders who don't have to pay attention to runners or deal with steals. This past year it took 2 of my nine year old catchers over half the 35 game season to throw a runner out at second, but you know what, since they got enough repetitions at it, especially with their foot work issues, they finally got it. Plus we started on pitch outs and most of all, they are learning about situations both at bat and in the field that are totally different with lead offs and stealing. To me one of the beautiful things about youth baseball is they can play the same game and make the same plays as professionals except on a different size field.

Edited By: kiro15 Aug 17th, 2012 at 05:52 PMThey'd have to make the field bigger to lead, otherwise 2nd base would always be a gimme. You can't make a nine year old play on a field bigger than a LL one......Originally Posted by Willywoo

Yeah thats how the little league is here and I guess in most small towns. Little League rules state you cant lead off. Personally I feel like the structure of little league baseball is pretty good as I have umpired and coached for many seasons. I dont have a problem with kids playing club and league in the same summer...its almost impossible to stop.

OK. I'm a moron. It didn't click for some reason. I was thinking leads like scoring. I agree with you. All the leagues around here have lead-offs. I agree with you.

My 9's played 46/60 and 46/65. I liked the 65' bases much better. 60 feet is too short even for 9's. So yea we play on bigger fields than these 12's.

on ly canada would have a 7-0 lead after the top of the first and then basically give it all back before getting 6 outs. this game is absurd.
its taken 90 minutes to play < 2 full innings. -
I was watching yesterday and they said they are switching to 50' mounds and 70' bases next year.
I grew up playing with the rules they use in LL and I was surprised to hear they were changing it.
btw, i was playing poker once with a kid that said he was on the Tom River, NJ team that won it a bunch of years back. I was sfjealous cause we made a deep run that year with our team. Sigh. -
I really can't stand watching these little shits on tv when there is big league baseball on... it's much better live tho, was at the park playing b-ball watching some little league and some of those kids can play.
-
Fuck i missed it Did Canada win ??
-
They need to move the fences back about 30 feet too. There are too many home runs.
and fwiw the baseball leagues in Ontario we use 50' mounds, 75' bases, and regular leadoffs for this age group. -
They should change the name of this tournament to "Which town has the most abnormally mature 12 year olds in the world"
The one team had a fucking 6'1, 205lb kid FFS. -
You obv missed California team then that has the 6'3", 210 pds player.

NQTW . . .

danny almonte was the most dominant little leaguer in llws history.
