I've noticed over the last few weeks a ton of Oters training for upcoming running races. I thought it would be cool if we list our goals for said races and then compare it to our actual times/distances.

Also hope it could motivate some of our slightly chubby, old members (stockage, lipton....etc) to get in decent shape :)
Post if you would like....
When
What type of race
Where
Goal of completion time
Good Luck......
Here we go.....

Under 2 hours 10 minutes -
9/18/2011
ING Philly Half Marathon
Philadelphia, PA
Ran last years (1st half) and completely hit a wall but still finished.
Have to beat 2:00 or I owe a dinner at Peter Lugars -
My marathon is April 3rd. This is my first so my goal is to come in at 4 hours max. It will be close.
This Sunday I am gonna run a 15k which is a little over 9 miles. I am gonna try to keep an 8:30 pace. We shall see since I have never ran in a distance race and who knows what the environment will do to me. -
Btw, how far is a marathon and a half marathon?
I was just looking at the 5k the phillies have set up for the end of the.month. But its sold out. I was kinda bumbed out. It seemed pretty sweet. -
Marathon is 26.2 miles. I encourage anyone that wants to start distance running go to www.marathonrookie.com and read it and pick a training program.

The Philly one is great. I loved the course since I grew up in the area and live in NYC now.

Congrats to you. It's great to accomplish something every weekend -
That sounds ridiculous tho. I feel like i could never run 9 miles non stop.

When: April 10
What type of race: Half marathon
Where: St Louis
Goal of completion time: I don't care, as long as I run the entire time.
IMO, Running is great if you have a good partner... other than that, it bites.
(I'm sure a dirty response to that comment will follow....) -
I did the Rock and Roll Chicago Half-Marathon last summer with very limited training and it went well, this summer I'm going to train and do a full marathon.
the one I'm looking at right now is-
October 2, 2011
http://www.mtcmarathon.org/Marathon/Registration.cfm
Starts in Minneapolis, ends in St. Paul
4 hours but I don't like running by myself so I'll have to see how fast I can get my partner to run, last summer it was both of our first half's and her goal was just not to walk, and we finished without any problems in 2 hours 15 minutes. So she will probably set a goal of around 4:15 this year or maybe she will just try not to walk again, who knows. -
When: Jan, 2012
Edited By: miamifunks Mar 2nd, 2011 at 08:30 AM
Type: Marathon
Where: IMG Marathon in Miami
Training: I've been able to run for an hour a few times a week and can run nonstop for a little more than six miles for about a year now. I'd like to finish my first marathon in less than 4 hours. I have a long time to train. Probably will do a half marathon towards the end of the summer. But in Miami, summer running can be brutal. Temps can be close to 100 with 85 percent humidity. The summer months always throws off my training schedule. -
1. Illlinois Half-Marathon April 30.
Goal: 1:30
2. Ironman Racine 70.3 July 17
Goal: 5:00
3. Ironman Wisconsin Sept. 11
Goal: Finish. (12:30ish probably) -

I used to run marathons but its been over 5 years now since I have, looking to get back into it after I graduate this year. Might shoot for Chicago or Detroit. -
ASSHOLE!!!!!
I'm leaving at 3pm today for vacation. Gonna check out the USS Midway in San Diego then skip across the border and hang out at Tijuana Beach. I'd love to drive my Delorean but...it is Mexico. Further down the coast we are staying in Ensenada for the whole Mexican Mardi Gras thing. Coming back to the states via route 3 which runs thru wine country with B&B's and exits Mexico at Tecate. Soooo I got a solid week of wine, beer, sea food and wenching ahead of me. Then you are on Bubba!
191lbs, goal 165lbs by June. I hate running, was forced on the track team as a kid in order to be on the basketball team. -
LOL......have a great time buddy and stay safe!

ima do 5ks and 10ks starting in may. dunno exactly what ones yet.
i still might do a half. i did a full in 08. never again.
5k doesnt really seem worth the trouble tho -
i didnt train enough for it no lol. the first half was cake.
my IT band shit out on me around mile 16 (my stamina was fine) and i walked the rest of it, finished in like 530 (i was on 4-415 pace). eff running THAT far.
my knees arent too good anyways so running doesnt fit well since i have to take extra care of them from getting sore.
ex. i ran a relay race last fall and tried to train way enough for it. the last month every time i ran one of my knees would get sore (IT band) and no matter what stretches and blah blah i did they would get sore. low and behold 4 miles in my left knee is sore as hell. i got pissed and just pushed as hard as i could through it, had to switch to a smaller leg tho which pissed me off. and my knee was sore for over a week after that one too.
i do enjoy running, just not 26 miles haha. if my knees hold ill prolly do a half -
Running for 26 miles sounds like the worst torture ever.
I just cant understand why someone would want to do it. -
It's as much, if not more, about the mental aspect. Most of the people on here just don't have what it takes, mentally, to push themselves beyond their comfort zone
-
Believe it or not, im definitely capable of doing that. Im sure if i put my mind to it, i could run a marathon. I just know i would hate it tho.
-
I thought I would hate it too but now I am in it full go. Trust me, if you can go to engineering school, you can do this
Edited By: ihaterats Mar 3rd, 2011 at 01:30 AM -
Lol yea. I was more thinking back to my HS wrestling days. Senior year, i lost 30 lbs in 3 weeks to get to 119lbs, and stayed there for 2.5 months. That is pretty much as far as i can get to pushing my body to the limit.
