Back by popular demand, we will be running the OT Home Run Derby league for the 3rd year. For those who have not played before, it's a unique form of fantasy baseball that I blatantly ripped off from someone else, where there are no roster moves, and the only stat you care about is home runs.

Rules:
1. Pick 7 batters from the player list on the website**. Using their 2011 stats, the home run total for your team must be 158 or less. The team with the highest home run total this year wins.
2. $50 per team. You may enter as many teams as you like.
3. All teams are final once submitted. There are no trades, drops, or pickups. If you pick Ryan Braun and he tests positive again, this time without a fuckup by the courier, you are stuck with him.
4. Teams and funds are due by 5PM EST, Wednesday, April 4 (extended).
**new this year: you can pick players who are NOT on the approved list. The list is everyone who hit 14 or more HR last year. If you want someone off of that list, you can have them, but they count as 14 towards your total HR. If you think that Hideki Matsui is going to vastly improve on his 2011 total of 1, you can pick him for your team, but he counts as 14.
Official Website for Derby:
http://otderby.webs.com/
Who you send your team to:
PM to JKoblyn
Who you send money to:
FenwayKing via paypal (PM him for instructions) Edit: PM JKoblyn for paypal info if you have not yet paid FWK (getting shady having multiple transfers of $50 sent to his account).
If there are enough teams this year, we will do monthly winners like last year. However, if interest is down because we can no longer transfer $$ on poker sites, we will have to do a winner take all. Prizes will be announced once registration is complete. If we are doing monthly winners, March home runs in Japan will count towards April, and any regular season home runs hit on October will count for September.
I am hoping to get the website to update automatically every morning, so the standings will always be up to date. If we can't pull this off, I will try to update as much as possible, and am definitely open to others helping out.
Final Standings, 2011
1. Hughes4 219
2. Leet8s 207
2. zander 207
4. Pbutchglof 205
5. Staple Gun 204
Edit: Registration is closed and the OT HR Derby Website is updated with all teams /standings.
Payout Struture (20 people, $1000 collected)
Monthly Winners: $50
Overall Winners: $450 1st place, $200 2nd place -
in. looks like a minimum of 12 based upon last thread.
gotta think 15 if FWK gets in and a couple other people join with the new thread -
most likely in, have a ton of HW to do, and a real busy week, but if I remember/have a free half hour to look it over, ill be in.
-
Bump. I'm going to be in, but I'll have to see how I can get $$ to FWK.
-
yep will be in before deadline but don't have time to get my team together at the moment
-
I must be blind but how much $$ is this?
-
I'm in also. Netfan, I think it's been $50 in the past. I'd assume the same this year.
-
I'm in.
-
Oh well, I'll have to find something else to waste $50 on.
-
wtf. doubt anyone would take a mariner or athletic, but baseball is sooo weird.
-
No one taking Coco?
-
bump

so far, definites are: me, qjuice, crazyhorse, leet8s. At least 10 others have expressed interest. If we get 16, that would pay $50/month so you're freerolling the rest of the way, and $500 winner takes all.
4 more teams added by psufan28 -
picking a team seemed way easier last year. trying to replicate my strategy now
-
In
-
paid to fenway and sent my team to JK.
-
Even though I'm a dick and I was still pretty upset that the US government stole my home run derby money, I have to be in...
PMing team to JK now, waiting for confirmation of email address from FWK to send. -
Got teams from Zander, Mupp and BigEarn. GTFI those still on the fence.
-
ran thru combinations all through my friday class. going to double check and then send in the winner.
curious: what was the max score in the official pool last year. how would i have finished? on phone, or id check myself. i wonder if anyone figured out last year's optimal team
suggestion: since we have a much smaller group, if anyone picks the same team, maybe we let them know and make a decision to have one change. -
Winning team in official pool had 243 HR. Your 219 would've put you at 31st.

Last year there were two teams that were the same. They were given the option of changing or keeping their teams and splitting winnings. They chose that option. -
They made a wise choice :-) Any roster changing would have involved Justin Morneau, so I'm glad I talked myself out of that.

Curious to see how much the 14 rule changes things... it's definitely the reason I played. -
I'm a fan of the rule, although I think that most people who utilize it will go for the same one or two guys (Abreu/Vlad obv). Justin Morneau fucked me on multiple teams between OT and the main one. One year the difference between $5000 or the $0 I got literally came down to picking Hafner over Utley.
