I don't understand why you can't wrap your head around it. They lost week 1, and got gift-wrapped the game. Otherwise they are 5-4 and would be lucky to get to seven wins on the season.
Is a 7-9 team a good football team to you??
And I will take the bet if you make it 8.5. -
I hate the Bears

I also ranked them 13th.
your point is... -
lol... 8.5 seems fair.
He is saying they are 8-8 at best... you are saying they are better. Put your money up, or move along. -
the way he's playing right now, he's Steve Young with an extra gear.... that is just sickness. There really is no answer if he maintains it.

I know the rankings are just opinions but lets use the bears-packers game as an example, national game where everyone saw how bad the packers played. Unless you can watch each game how sure are you that you are not missing more games like this? I watch the browns each week and they are a 3-6 team, looking better for the future but not that good of a team.

I could watch a leading pyschics researcher orate for hours on the mechanics of the universe and still not know what I just heard/watched -
How can you hate the Bears? How do you muster such strong feelings for a team that is so irrelevant? Thats like hating Wake Forest football. I forget that the Bears are in the NFL most of the time.

I do also but then I come into OT and they are the star of the fucking show.

I just thought about it and now I am willing to give odds.
If anyone wants to bet that the Bears will make the playoffs, I am giving 3-2 odds. Should be a gift, considering that they are 6-3 and in 1st place right now. -
I hate Jay Cutler I guess would have been more accurate
-
that's a somewhat favorable schedule, with the two Carolina games.... 12-4 is a possibility. I figure they will lose to either GB or NO at home and at least one road game. However, I could definitely see them losing 3 total and finishing 11-5. Tampa, Seattle and St Louis will all be challenging road games.

lol @ that guy stepping on his crank and angle shooting for another half point.
-
correct me if im wrong but i believe browns attempted passes on 1st down AND 2nd down (colt mccoy was sacked on that play) then ran on 3rd down.

Okay, I want Futon to know that I fully understand the concept of power rankings, I realize the many factors that go into putting the list together, my beef isn't there.
It's with the constant conveniency in the arguments that are being made, you guys bring up that the Bears offense is poor, toward the bottom in the rankings. What's not mentioned is their defense and special teams, which both perennially and currently make them compete. You guys mention that they "should have lost to the lions" (this I won't even dabble with, my thoughts are known) but when the Jets go back-to-back weeks and barely beat the Browns and Lions, those are perceived as gritty wins. Patriots get blown out by the Browns, NBD, top 5 team in the NFL. Bears lose 17-3 to the Giants, get 2 QB's hurt by one of the top defenses in the NFL, and it's the worst loss in NFL history (and before you pounce on this, I realize how bad the game was, but look at it this way, they lost by 2 touchdowns, how did Washington look last night?). I could go on and on with all the flip-flopping you guys do. I'm just saying, I have no problem reading these power rankings if you guys would just post a disclaimer saying that the consensus feeling toward the Bears is that we hate them, make your biases known. Yes, I'm a Bears fan, as you are Pats fans, and Jet fans, and 49er fans. Fact of the matter: I watch the Bears every week, I know they're going to lose a handful of games here on the tail end of the season, but to completely write them off when they're 6-3 and played a near flawless game Sunday is pretty irritating. No, I'm not butt hurt, I just found it interesting to see them as low as you guys have them.
Cliffs: Bears are better than the Browns and Raiders IMO
Also found it funny that the line went from 8 to 8.5, I'd have a sense of worry in the back of my mind too, and that's all I really need to know about the absurndness of Bears hate there is in OT -
Can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree the bears are underrated. Cutler is not awful and they have no running game which makes his job much harder. The Bears defense on the other hand is one of the top units in the league. Say what you want about Lovie but he does a great job with those guys.

Look out for the Saints coming off their bye week. 6-3 now and a pretty easy schedule. I expect them to finish 12-4. I think with all the parity in the league I'm going out on a huge limb, but I predict they hit their stride now.
Ravens defense is a stinker. Upset special of the week : Panthers over Ravens. Well not really, but I wouldn't be shocked if the game was close. Ravens offense on the other hand is pretty tough when they get going, but time to give the damn ball to Ray Rice 25 times a game and then watch the passing game flourish. Love Ray Rice but they gotta stop bring magahee in so much.
Giants are in trouble this week playing the powerhouse Philly team but let's not overreact. The cowboys played a good game and got lucky on a few key plays, but it's not as if the Giants are awful now because of one loss to a desperate team. Hate all you want Futon, but the Pats had a similar beatdown vs the Browns and I didn't talk no shit. Also look out for the Raiders next week Steelers
1. Eagles
2. Jets
3. Pats
4. Falcons
5. Steelers
6. Ravens
7. Saints
8. Packers
9. Giants
10. Bears/Titans -
In regards to the Bears, I texted a friend weeks ago that this year's Bears are last year's Broncos. I stand by that statement, which puts me in agreement with most of the posters itt.
I have zero animosity towards the Bears or the Broncos, fwiw. -
Whaaaat?
Atlanta has wins @ NO and vBalt (In which they dominated 3 quarters, went to a prevent defense giving up the lead, and then marching down the field in a minute to win the game). Their only losses are @ Pit and @ Phi (both extremely good teams on the road, and the Pit one was an OT loss). They two wins against above average teams @Cle and vTB. They had a letdown game at home against SF after winning at NO, but still found a way to win. Their win v Cincy was one in which they were blowing them out for most of the game.
Sure, they don't blow out many teams (except for lol Arizona), but so what? They run the ball well, they have a good passing attack, and they stop the run. They have problems in their secondary and it'll prolly be their downfall, but to act like them being ranked at 1 is lol is baffling to me. They have 2 quality wins (in comparison: NYJ has 1, NE has 3, Phi has 2, Balt has 2, Pit has 2, Ind has 1, GB has 2, NO has 1, NYG has 0, Ten has 2, and SD has 1 Note: Quality win is defined in this instance by wins over top 12 teams in our rankings). I just mean to say that most of the teams in our top 6 (highlighted in red) are interchangeable and to lol @ any of them being number 1 doesn't seem correct. They all have very similar bodies of work - and unlike others in the top six - Atlanta doesn't have a "bad" loss (meaning a loss to anyone outside of the same top 6).
I'm not claiming Atl should be number 1 (I personally have them at #2), I'm just saying of all the correct reasons to lol @ ESPN rankings, Atl @ 1 doesn't seem to me to be one of them.
The above is obviously just my opinion though. No disrespect intended. -
Edited By: JRoth15 Nov 16th, 2010 at 11:40 PMSo if I think they are going to go 8-8--which they should--why in the hell would I take your bet of the Bears having less than 8 wins.Originally Posted by XXEDPXX

I said they would be lucky to get to 8 wins to stress how awful their schedule is down the stretch. It's hyperbole for some drama...just like you said you're trying to create discussion in the thread.
I think they'll finish either 7-9 or 8-8, but it would be weighted heavily toward 8-8. Obviously I'm not going to be taking a bet that has them winning less than 8 games.
If you'd like to take 8.5, then we can work something out.
