Fantastic finish!!
-
Jones vs Silva needs to happen eventually.
-
can someone get a freeze frame on belforts face when he takes that side kick to the liver or whatever. it was a pretty classic derp face
-
Not sure why everyone is so eager to see Jones/Silva... jones will own silva at 205.
Only exciting fight will be jones moving up to heavyweight -
Really boring PPV overall, was glad for it to finally be over get home and get some food.
-
This I would watch (from interview with Jon Jones. His 2 brothers play eachother tomorrow night (one for Patriots, one for Ravens. The Gronk family has had 3 brothers in NFL)
Have you met the Gronkowskis?
I haven’t, but I’d be honored to. Maybe we’d do some type of promotional video with those guys. The Jones Brothers would definitely be up for it. -
F mighty mouse! What a boring fighter. So what if he's fast if all he uses it for is to run away. Little F'er never even attempted to finish the fight. Ian McCall V. Benevidez would have been a WAY better match up. Half hour of a dancing flea, FML Oh yeah can't forget to give a big F you to Bisping as well, Thanks for the boring point fest you limey prick.
-
Question for people who watched: Could you telll what the attendance was like? I heard that as of Friday the ACC was only half sold.
-
Jones would definitely rag doll silva at 205, but I do think silva has the best chance at beating him. JDS knocks out jones and that's saying a lot considering jones and silva are my 2 favorite fighters.

It did seem quieter then a normal event.
UFC 152 draws a reported 16,800 attendance for a $1.9 million live gate

You guys saying this do realize that Anderson walks around at 220 right? He sucks a TON of weight to get to 185, actually surprised he hadn't made the move to LH years ago. Is he as big as Bones? No, would he be undersized at LH? No.

Great night of fights imo

The flyweight fight was great despite what the retards itt are saying. It was technically a great fight to watch and I look forward to a lot more fights in this division.
JBJ was in the most danger of a loss that we've seen thus far.
Stann showed great heart despite being outmatched by a better fighter. Who knows how much better he would've looked if he actually would have trained with Jackson/Wink again but family>>>>>>training...
The Dunham fight was nuts -
In regards to Bones' arm..
Doesn't sound good for him, nor i suppose Dana White.Belfort said he heard "cracking and popping" as he applied the move. Jones said afterward that he thought he was going to break his arm but had no intention of tapping out.
-
Hell yeah . . . Also, did not realize that Hollett was a late replacement against Hamill. Makes the the mismatch more understandable. Hamill was clearly gassed halfway through round two, but Hollett just could not capitalize in any aspect.

Agreed, though at times I thought Johnson was fighting to not lose, rather than to win it.

I think a shorter arm gets tapped to that armbar. I think his length is what saved him, in terms of the leverage lost due to the legth he was cranking on. Still a stud to get out of the hold, cuz Vitor had a death-grip on it.

Clearly outmatched but, given the circumstances, not entirely surprising that Stann did not show better.

agri ^^
-
jones was wearing a sling during post fight conference and it was suggested there is possible nerve damage. dont know if it was him that suggested it or not.
-
hollet was hamills original opponent but was pulled when he had a contract problem with bellator. after matyshenko pulled out, hollet's contract dispute was cleared up and the fight was back on.
-
brb, im attempting to snap a really short pencil with my fingers to prove your leverage lost comment. jones arm sustained some pretty severe damage by the sounds of it. a weaker man would have tapped from pain, not a shorter arm
-
Okay, I admit the mistake. It's more that the smaller man would seem to have an issue with lining himself up as the fulcrum rather than the longer limb being the issue . . . my bad. For anyone with more armbar experience than I (read ANY experience), are longer limbs an issue for locking in the sub?

i think they must be able to fit more than that for ufc. anyways, there were reports that the initial buzz about ufc being toronto has completely worn off. Dana White has got a problem on his hands. The assumption that UFC was going to be the biggest sport in the world was flat out wrong in my opinion. I think in my ways its popularity has plateaued and may even be declining. Ratings for the reality show are at an all time low, the franklin/silva ppv had the lowest buys since 2006 or something, fighters are pulling out left and right with injuries, coaches are killing the sport, and dana white is a huge cunt bag
-
i can def seeing the sport at a plateau right now with the biggest names being out so long with injuries(gsp and silva), although i realize silva is back. The stars, like Silva, just aren't marketable. We don't get to know their personalities, and in Silva's case, he still chooses to use an interpreter...so yea there's that.
I think they are trying to do that with Jones and his nike sponsorship but we will see what happens. When is the last time you had a big fight actually live up to the hype? Most big hyped fights turn out to be duds or quick finishes.
I like the sport but i can see why it'll never attract a bunch of casual fans and it will always be just a niche sport -
to be fair silva is a huge star in brazil and does a ton of ridiculous commercials. i'm sure you've heard him talk, and considering how hilarious he sounds i'm not surprised he chooses to use an interpreter. it helps that ed soares is also his manager so he's always around to interpret. individual sports are always going to be harder to market because its pretty clear that fans enjoy team sports a lot more, not to mention the fact its nearly impossible to market fighting to a young audience. it's sort of like poker in the sense that very few parents are going to raise their kids to be mixed martial artists, or gamblers. while you might get your child to learn a martial art for other reasons, to raise them as a mixed martial artist pretty much suggests youre raising them to be professional fighters.
mma is great, but it's not my favorite sport, and as it has evolved I think it has become less interesting while a sport like hockey for me is always amazing, even in games that some would consider boring i've never seen a canucks victory that I didnt get complete satisfaction from. mma will never be that for me -
i only see a pic of when the kick first lands, and not the hilarious reaction about a second later
-
Like I said in a past thread and got flamed for, he has saturated his market. They have ppv events every month now, the real fans are going to buy it less often and fringe fans are going to either steal it or wait until they have someone they really want to see. ie Quebecois will only buy if GSP is fighting.
Edited By: TMLMS13 Sep 24th, 2012 at 03:48 AM
If you limit the ppv events to 5 or 6 per year and have more fights per event, the market might rebound. (obviously have to raise the price tho) I think Dana need some help from real businessmen. -
well, i dont remember flaming you because i think the same thing. but part of the saturation had a lot to do with having so many fighters employed. though i will say, what they should do ideally is have every ppv have at least one title fight(obviously) and the rest of the main card fights be number one contender fights. the rest can either be on the free prelims, or on free tv cards that they seem to have a lot of these days. and if they want to cut down on piracy they really need to make ppvs cheaper. i dont know how boxing/ufc got away with the model of charging 50 bucks or more for a ppv. i mean, if you get a bunch of friends together and they pinch in its cool. but say your plans for the night fall through and youre stuck at home and really wanna watch ufc, are you gonna spend 50 bucks to watch it by yourself? or are you gonna steal it online?
-
How long is the career for these fighters? I would guess its not that long, which has tobe a huge problem when you talk about marketing individuals. Good boxers can easily be at the top of their sport for 15 years
Edited By: dolphin13 Sep 24th, 2012 at 03:50 AM -
i would say its similar to boxing. though depends on weight div. mma prime is probably between 25-32 but for heavyweight it probably goes up a few years like boxing and for lightweights and below the prime is probably more 20-30. its going to change as mma becomes a more accepted sport and guys start getting more fights under their belt from a young age. rory macdonald is only 23, jon jones is 24-25. i dont know a lot of boxers at the top of their sport for 15 years. sure, just like most sport there are exceptional fighters that have longevity. but the average fringe contender boxer probably doesnt last 15 years at the top of his game
