    Ohio State coach Jim Tressel was informed that several Buckeyes players were selling memorabilia more than eight months before the school claims it was made aware of the scheme, a two-month Yahoo! Sports investigation has found.

    ...

    If Tressel failed to inform Smith or the Ohio State compliance department about the players’ dealings with Rife, he could be charged with multiple NCAA violations including unethical conduct, failure to monitor and a failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance. In general, a coach is required to act on, or pass along reasonable information about possible rule violations for further investigation.
    Section 4.1(d) of Tressel’s contract with Ohio State stipulates that he “supervise and take appropriate steps to ensure … members of the Team know, recognize and comply with any such laws, University Rules and Governing Athletic Rules and immediately report to the (Athletic) Director and to the (Athletic) Department’s Office of Compliance Services in writing if any person or entity, including without limitation, representatives of Ohio State’s athletic interests, has violated or is likely to violate any such laws, University Rules and Governing Athletic Rules.”
    Section 5.1 (m) of his contract also states that failure to promptly report “any violations” could lead to “termination by Ohio State for cause.”
    Ohio State itself could be cited with playing ineligible players and forced to vacate its 2010 season, when it won a share of the Big Ten championship and finished 12-1. It could also face further sanctions for major infractions.

    as a michigan alum I'm a bit torn. I thought Tressel was doing it the right way and actually admired the guy for his success (bowl games against SEC notwithstanding).

    Seeing them suffer as we get back on track might feel good though, I think I'd like to try that out.

    Where did the players get "their own shit" that they are selling?

    same goes for everyone saying AJ Green just sold "his own jersey".

    God I hope not, he's underachieved imo but seriously hate to break it to anyone that ALL schools that are competitive do an infraction here or there. Not like everyone is Auburn and paying a cpl hundred k for a heisman and NC but it's whether or not you get caught and can than be proven.
    I definitely think there will be more fathers or cousins negotiating signings that the player 'knows nothing about'.

    There is a casino close to every fucking school nowadays, ffs just have them sit at a HU tbl and with an alumnus and dump chips to said player. No cards will be seen & it will be impossible for NCAA to prove. This isn't rocket science and FUCK THE NCAA , some of biggest crooks on earth

    Who cares.. They are the most overrated team year in and year out. They always get the hype of being "the team"... come on really?

    They win their conference every year? Yeah because they play in the Big 10.. You can take them and put them in a real conference like the SEC and they finish outta the top three almost every year.

    Up until last year they had NEVER beat an SEC team in a bowl game. They have a losing record in bowl games as a team (20-22).

    The fact is outside of the Big Ten.... Ohio State is a non factor.
