    Important to who?
  7. I just want to know if the OP took the time to type all those scores out. If so you deserve at the very least a bronze.
  8. lol.. copy/paste/kinda fix

I believe the "winner" is based on total medals.

  9. That table is incorrect. Countries are ranked by gold medals first. The table below is from Athens 2004.

    <H2><SPAN class=editsection>[edit]</SPAN> <SPAN class=mw-headline>Medal table</SPAN></H2>
The ranking in this table is based on information provided by the International Olympic Committee.[2] In boxing and judo, two bronze medals were awarded in each weight class, so the total number of bronze medals is greater than the total number of gold and silver medals.[1]

The ranking sorts by the number of gold medals earned by a country (in this context a country is an entity represented by a National Olympic Committee). The number of silver medals is taken into consideration next and then the number of bronze medals. If, after the above, countries are still tied, equal ranking is given and they are listed alphabetically. The host country, Greece, is highlighted in lavender. The greatest number of medals won in each medal category, gold, silver, bronze, and total, is in boldface.

    <TABLE class="wikitable sortable" id=sortable_table_id_0><TBODY><TR><TH>Rank <SPAN class=sortarrow></SPAN></TH><TH>Nation <SPAN class=sortarrow></SPAN></TH><TD>Gold <SPAN class=sortarrow></SPAN></TD><TD>Silver <SPAN class=sortarrow></SPAN></TD><TD>Bronze <SPAN class=sortarrow></SPAN></TD><TH>Total <SPAN class=sortarrow></SPAN></TH></TR><TR><TD>1</TD><TD align=left> United States <SPAN>(USA)</SPAN></TD><TD>36</TD><TD>39</TD><TD>28</TD><TD>103</TD></TR><TR><TD>2</TD><TD align=left> China <SPAN>(CHN)</SPAN></TD><TD>32</TD><TD>17</TD><TD>14</TD><TD>63</TD></TR><TR><TD>3</TD><TD align=left> Russia <SPAN>(RUS)</SPAN></TD><TD>27</TD><TD>27</TD><TD>38</TD><TD>92</TD></TR><TR><TD>4</TD><TD align=left> Australia <SPAN>(AUS)</SPAN></TD><TD>17</TD><TD>16</TD><TD>16</TD><TD>49</TD></TR><TR><TD>5</TD><TD align=left> Japan <SPAN>(JPN)</SPAN></TD><TD>16</TD><TD>9</TD><TD>12</TD><TD>37</TD></TR><TR><TD>6</TD><TD align=left> Germany <SPAN>(GER)</SPAN></TD><TD>13</TD><TD>16</TD><TD>20</TD><TD>49</TD></TR><TR><TD>7</TD><TD align=left> France <SPAN>(FRA)</SPAN></TD><TD>11</TD><TD>9</TD><TD>13</TD><TD>33</TD></TR><TR><TD>8</TD><TD align=left> Italy <SPAN>(ITA)</SPAN></TD><TD>10</TD><TD>11</TD><TD>11</TD><TD>32</TD></TR><TR><TD>9</TD><TD align=left> South Korea <SPAN>(KOR)</SPAN></TD><TD>9</TD><TD>12</TD><TD>9</TD><TD>30</TD></TR><TR><TD>10</TD><TD align=left> Great Britain <SPAN>(GBR)</SPAN></TD><TD>9</TD><TD>9</TD><TD>12</TD><TD>30</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

As you can see Russia won more medals overall than China but only came third because China won more gold medals.

important to all the americans who get caught up in this shit
  11. without phelps, we actually look like we are doing a shitty job of WINNING. nothing wrong with silver or bronze, but we are supposed to have the best athletes in the WORLD with the best coaching/facilities. not too worried whenever track/field starts. it's gonna be all over then.

  12. China has 4x as many people as we do, and have you seen their training facilities? They pull kids out of their normal schools at an early age have them do nothing but train and study. It is all paid for by the government, as opposed to the US where some families of olympic athletes have to take out mortgages on their houses just so their kids can make it.

    Americans have it rough imo
  14. funny and heartbreaking all at once.
  15. Canada has it rough, I mean you have 10% of the US population, and 10% of the US medal count...right??? I am just saying that China should be beating the US in medals, gold medals ect. I wouldn't expect Canada to be able to compete with countries much larger and it doesn't.
  16. I think the US will eventually catch up in Golds... we're far superior at track and field events, that havn't even started yet. We've also got Baskeball and beach volleyball which we are favored in both.

However, there are still alot of medals to be given out in Gymnastics... most of which will probably go to the chinese.. we'll see what happens though

    goooooo team

we still have the best athletes and coaches
and for the most part most these people train at top facilities
not ALL but most our athletes

  18. Half of the US's medals are from swimming, where they give them out like toilet paper.
  19. China is only good at 2 things.Gymnastics and diving. They f'ing swept all of the diving medals for a total of 8.They just pretty much suck at everything else.

Canada needs to step their game up.How are Canadians not good at shooting or archery.Come on my brothers to the north.Show us something.
  20. The only sport where we can win medals is Rowing. I dont know why we even have so many athletes only like 10/500 are realistic medal chances. No one in Canada cares about these games anyways. Vancouver 2010 ftw
  21. You have done nothing to refute my points that China should have more medals because of a huge population and state-sponsored training facilities. I gave reasons to your bitching about not winning gold medals. Maybe we do have the best athletes in the world, but IMO it is amazing that we can compete with a country 4x the size of our own.
  22. and half of Canada's medals are in??????????????
  23. Winter sports.
  24. Zimbabwe has more medals than Canada

    who will win more medals

    Canada

    or

    Phelpsada
  25. I wonder how many of China's medals are as a result of some illegal performance-enhancing substance that the IOC's testing acengy can't detect.
  26. Phelps will def have more gold medals than Canada, but it should be close for total medals. And like I said, there are so many different swimming events that one person can enter that getting 8 is a little overrated.

Dont get me wrong it is amazing what he doing, But you cant call him the best ever based on medals. Say there is a wrestler who absolutely dominates, he can only get one medal.

IMO Misty May/Kerry Walsh are just as dominant in Beach Volleyball, over 100 str8 wins, but their sports only awards one medal.
