Lately I haven't been able to hit my driver worth shit.
Edited By: Diggs May 15th, 2011 at 06:01 AM
My misses tend to be low hooks that start off either relatively straight or start off left too.

1) Shorten your swing. If you not super flexible your length of swing will mess up any chance of being consistent.

2) Your set up to play a draw and my guess is you hit a lot of pull hooks and block slices. Open your shoulders, hips/feet, and try to work on getting the club more outside. Hopefully you'll start hitting some soft fades.
3) I'd guess that your grip is very strong. Work on weakening your grip.
Hopefully a couple of those things will help
P.S. I noticed that when you take the club back you straighten your right leg and sway. Work on keeping that leg flexible and it should help you from hitting fat and thin shots -
I would start by wearing a shirt that covers your belly.
-
Im not a pro or anything, but I think you need to bend your knees more, and agree with above, your right leg seems too straight on the back swing. Also keep your left foot as planted as possible. When i hit a ball my left foot doesnt move at all.
And I also agree you need to shorten you backswing, at least until you start hitting it straighter. -
Shorten your backswing.

Get it to look like the one on the left at the top of your backswing(I paused it before you finished your backswing to show where it should optimally be). You go too far past parallel as seen in the photo on the right, and when you do your upper body starts to lean the wrong way. -
your getting out in front of the ball (your head should be behind the ball at impact), also you are getting a little narrow at the top of your swing, meaning you have an extra move at the top of your swing where your first move before you make your downswing is to drop your hands down get rid of that. most important though is think turn....not sway.
setup looks good and there are a lot of good moves in the swing... clean up a few of these things and you will be posting some good rounds... glglgl -
The most confusing way to fix a quick hook is probably to go into OT and get 50 different opinions about what to change. GL.

The ball is way too far back at the start. The club is really shut at the top. And the other stuff people have already said
-
Shorten your backswing for sure. The face is closed when you are about half way up and maybe put it up a little further in your stance.
-
Club face is closed from start to finish. Rotate your wrist earlier and get that club facing up when it is parelel to ground. Easy game
-
Good advice in here. The things I would try first are opening the cliub face during the swing, shorten it up, and set up a little more open. If you aim right to try and keep the ball straight you probably wont fix the problem.
-
You're transferring your weight to your front foot. Try sitting down more in your stance and leaving some more weight on your back foot. Also shorten the swing.

Here is your swing plane: (your takeaway looks pretty good, although a little too upright, like you're hitting an iron.)

It looks, (judging from this) that you are hitting to down on the ball try sweeping it more and sitting down in your stance. (Keep that weight on the back leg more)
-
I'm pretty bad at teaching but I put the ball more towards my front foot and I have a "half swing" and can consistently hit it about 240 straight, rarely ever hook or slice. I have some friends with similar swings as yours and they have the same problem because they just want to grip it and rip it every time. It's pretty hard not to go straight when you shorten up the swing.
-
I'll go with work on keeping your left arm near perfectly straight to reduce the backswing.
-
Another thing someone else mentioned is that the ball is too far back in your stance for a driver. Move the ball up so that its just inside your left heel.
Hit em straight

Sway is a good word, and what I said about keep some bend in your right leg when taking the club back will help you not sway -
First thing that comes to mind, your posture SUCKS. Start with a tad bit more bend in the knees, and I also agree your getting out infront of the ball at impact.
Second and prob most important, shorten your backswing. Your grossly overswinging on your backswing, causing you to roll your left shoulder. Your also momentarily obstructing view of the ball. -
asking swing advice to non golfing instructors is the stupidest thing you can do.
cough up the 50 bucks and go get a lesson -
Great advice Hate but the quick easy way to cure it is the closed club face.

Im a hundo an hour sir.
50 may get you an assistant pro. -
I realize I'm taking the club back too much past parallel on my backswing. I always thought I did a pretty good job not going too far back as well as keeping my left arm straight but after having a chance to view my swing in high speed apparently I was wrong.

Need to buy a new shirt first.
I do have a tendancy, especially with my short irons, to be a bit of a digger. I hit down on the ball quite aggressively and take big pelts. I'm not sure if that has made it's way into my driver swing or not.Originally Posted by Hateflops

Should I try weakening my grip a bit, focus more on opening up the club face on the backswing earlier or a bit of both?Originally Posted by ZeeDustin

Thanks everyone...I'm going to work on shortening my backswing, not swaying so much, weakening my grip and opening my clubface earlier / more on the backswing. -

Make sure you put your change in your left pocket and turn your hat backwards :) -
Both....ur left V.....index and thumb line should point to right shoulder.....right almost middel of chest. Thats a great grip nowadays. Next make sure when club is parallel to ground, the head is straight up.
