My friend runs a not-for-profit company that assists battered and abused women and children and find jobs, places to live, new vehicles ect for them to help them start a new life in LA. Well my friend has had the same accountant for the last 4 years, since the start of the company. And yesterday, the accountant cleaned out the bank account, save $1, to the tune of 570k and some change. Apparently he did it to some of his other clients as well.
Anyway I was wondering if there is anything that can be done. I don't think there's much hope really. I wouldn't be suprised if he's already in a non-extradition country by now living it up, but if there is even the most remote chance i'd be curious to know what we could do. If there's nothing we can do and it's just a super shitty situation then no problem but i'd figure i'd ask. Thanks for any insight. -
Some lawyer in Breckenridge CO did something similar a few years ago. He had over million in his trust account for a client who was going to close on some real estate. He took the money and left the country. Fucker left his dog in his office.
They still haven't found him. -
this is similar to what happened to my parents except it was health insurance dues...the attorney general fought the case for a few yrs then dropped it 6 yrs later..diff case but i'd call the attorney general of your state
edit: person fled the country and the company declared bankruptcy and the only reason the A.G. dropped the case was none of the other ex-employees (around 1k) wanted to pursue anymore except my parents b/c they had 8m in hospital bills and obv most ppl don't have that -

not sure on the specifics of this but there are investigators that will try to recover stolen assets but they are not cheap.
Here's a website I found:
