Last power rankings of the year...individual rankings here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...hl=en_US#gid=0
Commentary as always by Bob Futon:
The last power rankings of the year is always the most difficult once you get by the top teams. For starters, since this is based on a mixture of both past performance and future expectation, you reach that crossroad where you can make an argument for ranking Denver better than somewhat like Philly, who has been eliminated from the playoffs. Finally, this is the last hurrah for me. After 3+ years of doing these Ive squeezed every last Big Ben rape joke out that I can. So this is it for me. Unless Big Ben gets another sexual assault charge over the summer Im not coming back. On to the rankings:
1) Packers- If Im the Packers, Im playing the majority of my starters still this week. Putting an extra week off is a recipe to get too much rest and come out rusty in the Divisional Round.
2) Saints- Not buying this the Saints should be considered 1A at the moment crap. Sure theyve looked great and Brees has had a historically great season but good luck winning two road games especially if you somehow get stuck with the Lions in the first round of the playoffs (I believe this is the scenario that happens if Atlanta wins and Detroit loses this weekend.)
3) Patriots- On the positive side: theyve won a league high 7 in a row. On the negative side: those wins have come against Mark Sanchez, Tyler Palko, Vince Young, Dan Orlovsky, Rex Grossman, Tim Tebow and Matt Moore. Im pretty sure none of these guys should be starting Quarterbacks in the NFL.
4) 49ers- I dont think you are winning a Super Bowl when your kicker sets the season record for field goals. Just shows how inept this offense is when it matters.
5) Ravens- When you are 3-4 on the road and 8-0 at home, Id say its pretty important that you lock up the 2 seed. Will not be easy this weekend with a frisky Bengals team.
6) Steelers- See above. I think Big Ben might have two wins in him in the AFC Playoffs but I think asking him to win 3 in 3 weeks on a bum ankle and all on the road is to tall of a task.
7) Lions- Congratulations to the Lions and their fans for making the playoffs. Also, congratulations on not being Vikings fans.
8) Falcons- Look at it this way Falcons fan, if you do end up with the 6 seed, its really hard to beat a team in your division 3 times, right?
9) Texans- Hard to pin that Colts loss on anyone other than Gary Kubiak
10) Giants- Sorry Giants fans, I cant root for you this weekend for two reasons. 1) Ive seen Giants fans jump off the bandwagon on two major occasions this year. 1) After the Philly loss and 2) After the Redskins loss. And..
11) Cowboys- Lets face it. The thought of Romo shitting all over himself in the playoffs sounds far more entertaining than Romo shitting all over himself in Week 17.
12) Eagles- Im not sure if Andy Reid really would have ever left but can we all agree he definitely comes back now next year?
13) Jets- Look Mark Sanchez sucks, Ive said this for a few years but how on earth in your biggest game of the year do you have him throwing the ball 59 times?
14) Bengals- Jerome Simpson somehow managed to win Play of the Year and Arrest of the Year all in the same season. Impressive.
15) Chargers- Rumors are that Dean Spanos is open to bringing back Norv and AJ for another year. Im elated.
16) Broncos- Apparently Jesus got put on IR this weekend.
17) Titans- I dont care how it happens but someone in the convoluted AFC Wildcard 2 playoff picture has to win so we have no chance of the Jets of making the playoffs.
18) Raiders- We MIGHT get a Carson Palmer playoff game versus the loser of the AFC North. Somehow this is almost going to feel like that Saints-Seahawks game last year where everyone and their mother bet on the Saints.
19) Seahawks- For all the shit I give the NFC West, outside of some pretty awful QB play, this division ended up being a pleasant surprise this year between the 9ers, Seahawks and Cardinals. At the same time, its pretty hard to get excited about the Seahawks future for a Super Bowl (they could easily make the playoffs) with the current QB situation on the roster.
20) Panthers- Hard to believe this but the Panthers are only a couple of defensive pieces away from being a threat in the NFC.
21) Cardinals- What is there a better chance of, Kevin Kolb becoming an upper tier NFL QB or going an entire season where Beanie Wells doesnt show up on the Injury Report less than 4 times.
22) Dolphins- I actually think the Dolphins will knock off the Jets at home this weekend.
23) Bears- Should be a fun offseason for the Bears with Matt Forte trade demands.
24) Chiefs- Really enjoyed how the Chiefs fans got sucked right back into this season only to have a blocked field goal end the dream.
25) Redskins- Congrats to the Redskins. By injuring AP they guaranteed there will be 1 team in the NFC with a worse offense than them to start next season.
26) Bills- I think the Bills take a wildcard next season with a healthy Fred Jackson and a little bit of help from the schedule (that Week 10 through Week 14 stretch was brutal)
27) Vikings- Between Peyton Hillis and Toby Gerhardt, we should have two starting White Tailbacks next year in the NFL. Thats what I call progress White People! Next up, lets get another white corner!
28) Browns- Bad week to be a Browns fan. Matt Barkley going back to school puts their chances of getting a QB in peril. I see the Redskins making an aggressive push to move into the Vikings or Rams slot.
29) Colts- This is like a Greek tragedy right now with the Colts doing the honorable thing and playing out the schedule and potentially setting back their franchise a decade after Peyton Manning leaves.
30) Jaguars- Congrats to Maurice Jones Drew on your rushing title. Unfortunately the rest of your career is about to be wasted with Blaine Gabbert.
31) Bucs- The only coach that gets away with having his team quit the way the Bucs have is Norv Turner. I like the Bucs to clean house. Scary thing if you have free agents on your team this offseason as the Bucs and Jags both have a ton of money to spend to get up the salary cap floor.
32) Rams- Dear Chiefs fans, Josh McDaniels is soon to be your problem. -
LoL
-
So theres a 51/49 chance that Futon is back for the commentary next season
just pure awesomeness14) Bengals- Jerome Simpson somehow managed to win Play of the Year and Arrest of the Year all in the same season. Impressive.
You'd think we'd have more teams peaking at this time of year, or maybe it's just a lack of teams packing it in before the season is over. The playoffs r gonna be a total coinflip. -
GIANTS WIN, FALCONS WIN, LIONS LOSE... GIANTS VS PACKERS IN THE DIVISIONAL ROUND. LET'S DO THIS! PLZZZZZZ. Romo's revenge just doesn't sound as fun as romo failing again.

Jerome Simpson isn't even close to arrest of the year, so not really that clever. Sam Hurd anyone?
The patriots ain't going to the super bowl, if anyone wants to wager pm me or post here.
Also not sure where to post this, but let me know who to send the fantasy football money to on paypal?
And lastly, the nfl really should change these seeding rules for the wildcard, wtf are they waitign for? Giants/cowboys and AFC west winner have no business hosting a playoff game. -
It's over boys, I'll be in the middle of Capstone at school next year when the season starts. I would say about 50% of the time this year it was really more of a nuisance writing this than anything i enjoyed.
-
i think donkey kong just blew a load after reading u wont be back.
-
RAVENS RAVENS RAVENS
-
Just because there is no commentary doesn't mean there can't be power rankings. If FWK still ran the excel sheet i'm pretty sure Sheep and JRoth along with a hanful of other people would be willing to rank. dunno if Randers would be back.
-
I think Randers could come up with some pretty witty shit if he tried.
-
No doubt. I actually just think it should be verbal sparring with Sheep and Randers for every team next year.
-
yea who needs rankings when you have randers and MS. Just post a weekly vid of them arguing a la clayton/salisbury and that would suffice
-
Don't you put that evil of josh mcdaniels on us chiefs fans!
-
FUCK YOU.
15) Chargers- Rumors are that Dean Spanos is open to bringing back Norv and AJ for another year. I’m elated.
-
arrest of the year? not even close. rolando mcclain and sam hurd ring a bell?
-
Oooo Hurd should have won. My mistake. The fact Simpson is still playing made his a little better and ultimatley I think you can make an argument for him because Hurd will never play again. The McClain arrest was just weird. I'd give Simpson the edge over him.
-
Got to love in a division with 4 teams one team who is mathematically out of the playoffs is ranked higher than two teams still in the hunt for a division title and wildcard spot.
-
My AFC playoff predictions...
Edited By: marinersheep Dec 27th, 2011 at 08:21 PM
Bengals take the final wildcard spot, and the Raiders take the West.
As for next year, I'll definitely be back. I hope most everyone else, including Randers, is back, too.
But this isn't it for this year yet. While the rankings are done, we'll have all our awarads and playoff predictions coming up. -
Next week I'll be rooting for Jerome Simpson and his Gymnastics
-
-
+ 1 on this, anti raider bias is so prevalent, how can raiders lose at last second to detroit and have them light up the bolts the very next week yet bolts are better? how can the raiders beat the vikings and bears straight up but jesus gets two miracle wins and the broncos are ranked higher? how can the titans and jets be ranked higher? I feel like seth on SNL ... REALLLLLY

(i hope youre all back next year though, this is the best thing tuesday has going for it) -
I took a lot more exception with the Chargers being ranked higher than the Broncos being higher. I have the Raiders ranked higher but quite frankly I think Denver beats KC on Sunday. I think Roger Goodell might borrow Dick Bavetta and Joey Crawford to make sure Denver wins.
-
i pretty much agree with these rankings. lol @ the comment on the cowboys.
-
Yeah im hoping the ravens beat the bengals since they have home field to play for, but it is possible Orton comes out angry and they take out the broncos. Either way when we beat SD we should slide into the playoffs.
Praise be to Tebow. -
lol like the cowboys have any chance....giants spank em again. Jets r garbage
-
Bengals win this week then go to Houston and handle the Texans. After that anything can happen Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
-
49ers too low
