So the Harris Teeter (grocery store) down by my apartment has added a bunch of parking spaces next to all the handicapped spaces that say "reserved for families with children".
There have been threads about the douchiness of taking handicapped spaces, regardless of how full the lot is. But say you are going to park and run in, and the lot is jammed except for these "family" spaces. Obviously no legal ramifications for taking them, but are you a douche for sliding into that space? -
Whether they have a need or not is irrelevant here. The issue is whether or not you respect the way in which the property owner wishes his property to be used. If you don't like his rules you are free to complain, boycott, shop elsewhere and even write an opinion letter to the editor. What you shouldn't do is disrespect the person who is allowing you on his property.

At our local mall, there is spots next to the handicap spots with signs that say "reserved for expecting mothers".
Literally like 20 of them at the mall. I park in them whenever one is open. Having 20 pregnant bitches at the mall at the same time is about as likely as pigs flying. -

great idea. Kohl's has them here. My wife is 9 months along, and has difficulty waddling and her feet are swollen, so the shorter distance, the better. -
sick brag about having sex in the past year.

That's pretty douchy.

But having a shorter distance to go when having multiple children with you isn't better? I'd rather they put spots near the front with signs asking that they be reserved for those with difficulty walking more than 50 feet and leave it up to the good sense of the customers to abide by it. There would be abuses obviously but I find most people to be considerate when given the chance.

This dramatically changes my opinion. This is as much of a douche move as jamming some Indian for gas.

I never park in them but not because theyre for families. I just never park in the front of parking lots.
-
Once you go helicopter to get around you never go back
-
I have never seen a grocery store parking lot completely full. The only times I have seen mall parking lots completely full were within three weeks of Christmas.

Congrats on your sense of entitlement. If somebody has the nerve to label their own property as they see fit for the benefit of their customers, fuck them. You deserve to park close because you want to.
Edit: oops, you didn't say you'd done it (OP) Congrats on your sense of entitlement if you choose to. -
Jeez really guys?
I fucking hate it when OT acts all uppity. -

Its "uppity" to have respect?
-
If anyone here can goto the mall and take a picture of 5 different pregnant women... i will no longer park in one of the 20 designated spots at the mall. fwiw, they are full like 99% of the time anyway, so im not the only asshole.
-
Oh my grammar is god awful. If google chrome didnt put the red squiggly line under my misspelled words, my post would be even more of a shitshow.
-
Ok stop. Now we know you are just levelling us. No one is that ignorant, right?
-
That's discrimination against people with no kids. If you are handicapped, it's not by choice. People have kids by choice, I don't see why they should be entitled.
I think it's messed up, but I wouldn't park in those spots -
When we have multiple kids, but our legs work fine and there is no pain/major discomfort for my wife, then I don't mind walking a longer distance. I agree with putting the reserved signs for those with difficulty walking, which would include expecting mothers.

we went to Target yesterday, and there were 4 pregnant women (well, 3 others). So I'd expect a mall to have many more than 5. -
For the same reason one employee a month can park in the "primo" employee of the month parking spot. Because if the property owner sets a rule for being on his property than the moral thing to do is respect his wishes. No one forces you to go to property that has parking arrangements that you don't like.
-
who does the grocery store want to appease more, the single guy who spends 20 dollars a week on ramen or the fatty who puts 400 dollars a week of his ssi/disability on the check out belt?
-
Malls are ALWAYS full of pregnant/new mothers pushing strollers. I could snap a pic of 10 preg women and 25 moms with children under the age of 2 on any given Saturday.
-
Well, back in the day owners used to have all sort of nifty arrangements for white people only.

Like I said, I think it's a stupid idea, but I' m not gonna go park in those spaces.
I think if a business owner had spots for: people with no children, skinny people, single people only, a lot of people would be upset.
