  1. Only one to call me back is Mcdonalds. I applied everywhere in the area, I'm still a year away from graduating college and need cash because of the whole Black Friday f up. How much does working at Mcdonalds suck?

They were literally my last choice of places I applied at but I mean its been going on 2 weeks now and nothing has come up so I guess I have to take it. I applied mostly at places like convenience stores, banks, grocery/department stores.
  2. you obv need a better resume if nobody is calling you back...highlight the coursework you've completed if you don't have any work experience.

another option is to review how you're answering all the application questions...maybe you need to enhance your responses to make you stand out.

Also, don't check the "Convicted of a Felony" box on the applications

  3. it took me 1week to get a job being a chip runner here in jax, hope in a few months ill be dealing
  4. lowest unemployment rate since the great depression. we are in the same boat, except the only job that looked promising for me was in cleveland and there is no chance i want to move there.
  5. dude, you cant just apply and then hope they call you back. You need to be proactive... for example go visit them or call them a few days after you apply to see about getting an interview.
  6. Graduated in December. Summer before was hell at an outbound call center. After graduating I applied to around 240 companies and upto 16 different positions per company. Finally got a job via a friend who set up an interview where he works.

    Networking>volume.
  7. I've made calls to places I applied at but I'm under the impression that either I suck or nobody is hiring. My resume is pretty empty, I havent had a real job since 2006. Most places I was applying at dont require a resume but I mean I cant imagine I'm screwing up an application to a RiteAid.

Working at mcdeezys cant be that much worse than like a place like Panera or something right? I know it has a bad rep and everything, but is it really that bad? I need money, have no prior experience really and like I said I'm a year away from a degree. I have an unpaid internship currently so I'm getting experience that way but I gotta get paid some how.

  8. People bad mouth mcdonald's but having it on your resume is a plus given how tight a ship they run. A year or two of mcdonald's as work experience will you get further than you may think.
  9. it is a job and in this economy and still being a student i say take it for now and continue looking for something better while you put money in the bank.
  10. Go to a construction site. Find the general contractors office trailer. Go inside and tell them you are looking for a job as a laborer. IF the GC doesnt have any positions available, ask if they know of any other trade on the jobsite that is looking.

100% you will find a job within 3 job site visits
  11. I'd start selling drugs before working at McDonalds

yeah, and you'd get caught then become disqualified from all financial aid and not be able to finish your last year of school.

Panera is wayyyyy better than McDonald's, plus the hot sourdough rolls right out of the oven are bomb.... I worked at a panera for over a yr it was an easy job and pretty cool actually

  14. Unpaid internships are invaluable for post-graduate job seekers. I know firsthand that it sucks working for no money, but i salute the OP for doing it.

Not sure how it works down in the States, but any real construction job that lasts more than a few days probably requires union workers. Meaning, person has to sign up with that union and wait to be hired as it is dependent on sinority, not name hiring.

Oh yeah, I'd give it maybe 20% chance you get a job. The likely scenario is that general contactor kicks you off-site and tells you to never return.

PM buchiYAYO for info regarding this
  21. pics of yourself... this could be the problem.
  22. Poker was my only income from late 2005 on

I now wake up at 3am or so and merchandise (tough manual labor at grocery stores) for coca-cola at 10.82 per hour. It's a crap economy for job seekers and resume gaps hurt. Luckily this was the last job I had back in '05 and was able to call up and get back on.

Guess I'm just saying I know how ya feel, do what someone else mentioned; take the job but keep looking for something better. Good luck

  25. 15? thats it?
  26. Yeah Grand Blanc is a smaller town and I'd really like to fade working in Flint.

Might go try grocery stores one more time before I commit, I have an interview set up Saturday so I guess if I don't find anything almost immediately, then I'm going to be super sizing some combos.

  27. I worked at McDonalds from age 14-16 (so this is 10 years ago). It was my 1st job. They paid me shit (min wage was $5.15. I think I was making $5.60 by the time I quit 2 years later to go to Starbucks where right off the bat I made $9/hr w/ tips which was very high at the time). They definitely run a tight ship, but with the volume of customers they get, they really can't afford not to.

Most of the customers are assholes. I don't know what it is about fast food that causes people to lose their patience, but a lot of customers had really unreasonable demands given the price they were paying. I was constantly moving. Like zero downtime. The grease was absolutely terrible for my skin (as if being a teenager wasn't bad enough). Plus I gained a shit load of weight from eating there (I've eaten fast food probably <10 times since quitting 8 years ago). The only reason I stayed so long was out of loyalty to the guy who hired me when nobody else would.

If you didn't apply to Starbucks btw, go do it now. Night & day when compared to McD's. Paid me so much better (like I said earlier). All the free coffee you want. Repeat customers are a helluva lot nicer and they tip. It gets very busy, but there is downtime (and I was in one of the few Starbucks that had a drive thru, so it was one of the busiest ones in the state). Much more laid back atmosphere. I always said if I was desperate enough to need a job, I'd go right back to Starbucks. Hell, I quit 6 years ago and I can probably still make 90% of the menu from memory.

I know you were looking for someone to perk you up about working at McD's, but I'm sorry, I hated it there.
