I went sunday night, saw their film fest movie yesterday morning, saw the concert again last night and i'm going thursday in hamilton and the 23rd/25th in edmonton/vancouver.
Anyone else here at the shows the past two nights or have any great PJ stories?
-
Went and saw them in '06 greatest band ever, I am very jealous.
-
I've seen them a few times. Great shows! Saw them play in San Diego and Eddie is originally from Encinitas. He brought his original guitar teacher when he was a kid on stage to jam with them for a song.
Also, on Fourth of July this year my friend asked me if I wanted to go surfing with him that morning. I was too tired for the night before so I passed. He ended up seeing Eddie in the water and the two of them shared a peak together for two hours talking the whole time and my buddy said he was one of the nicest people he's ever met. -
dude you really have to see them 5 times this month?
-
Saw them open for the beasties during Pauls Botique (IIRC). good show only about 200 people there.
saw them @ lollapalooza in 92, again decent show - just way more people. Ministry owned -
I met a guy at the bar before the show who was about to see his 85th show, he flew to toronto from ohio for these two.
The setlists are totally different all the time...first night had more of an emphasis on the slow songs but last night was one banger after another for the most part.
HIGHLY recommend every PJ fan, casual or serious, sees the movie. It is incredible

He's actually from Evanston, Il, but did live in San Diego for a while. Pearl Jam is my religion. Pretty cool your friend got to meet him. I have been to 8 PJ concerts, including the Labor Day PJ20 festival. Greatest ever was the 1994 show at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. 5000 people. Pearl Jam in their prime. Kings X. Greatest show of my life. I followed them around the Midwest during this past tour. St. Louis, Columbus, Indy, Kansas City. No two shows were the same.
This is a big year for them. The 20th anniversary of the band. There is a documentary directed by Cameron Crowe coming out later this month along with a book and a soundtrack. Hopefully a new album will emerge in the spring.
Edit: JohnnyG beat me to the movie stuff. -
actually i got to sit next to neil young at the documentary yesterday. i sat in two seats wit my cousin and the rest of the row was 'reserved'...when the lights went off neil and some people came and sat next to us. this was after the night before he did an amazing version of rockin in the free world with the band. would've gotten a picture but i had to take my cousin to the airport and get back in time to start drinking for the show last night!
@ lizardboy: have you seen the movie yet? incredible footage, including from the second pearl jam show ever. -
Wanted to go yesterday but my homie couldn't hook up tix and I wasnt paying scalper rates. Jealous you went to both but is it really worth seeing 5 shows?? It can't be.

Every show is different. I went to 4 shows in a week and a half span last year and can tell you that they were all unique. Completely different set lists.
-
it was pretty sick. It was wierd to see these guys playing stadiums though. I had seen them all play in much smaller venues, (except for SG and IC) within the past couple of years. Then, it was like overnight they were selling out midsized stadiums and the patrons were lighting fires in the middle of the god damn venue. Just nutty.
-
They couldve have been that different tho and were talking about flying across the country to see a concert you already seen three times in the last 2 weeks. I dont think there is anything I'd do this for
-
one of the guys in my office just won 2 free tix for the Thursday night show in Hamilton. SOB didn't even ask me to go.

Pearl Jam fans are the most loyal fans on the planet. Flying across the country is a little extreme, but I literally put thousands of miles on my car driving to St. Louis, KC, Indy, Columbus. And yes, the concerts are that different. They decide what to play 20 minutes before the show starts sometimes. It's not like going to Lady Gaga or something where everything is rehearsed and choreographed, where a show here is identical to the same show in the next city. -
Seeing them at Bonnaroo in 2008 was one of the most incredible performances I've seen.
-
i am staying with family in both edmonton and vancouver so my cost isnt as bad as it seems, but the setlists CAN be that different (to popperhead)...check this for example

I saw the Monday Toronto show and the one in Hamilton, I thought Hamilton was better. Have seen PJ a few times, but Eddie was insane in Hamilton smashing mic stands and running all over the place
I collect concert posters of most shows I attend, here are the ones from this run of shows (they had a very limited special edition color randomly thrown in some merchandise stacks, thats why there are seperate colors)

They play 2+ hour shows, never play the same setlist twice, take care of their fan club members like no other band. The music is amazing, the opening bands are top notch, the fans treat each other like family. I have traveled to NYC, Philly, StL, KC, Wisc, Vegas, San Fran, etc. 20+ shows since 1993 and I still havent heard a few of my favorite songs played live. They do their own bootlegs for each show. There is simply no other band like them.
-
I have seen them about 15 times . Hard to pick a favorite but msg 1&2 2010 are hard to beat . Going to see pj20 tomorrow night .
-
for all the PJ fans still yet to see the movie---prepare to love the band on a new level. Even if everything you see/hear in the flick isn't new to you, it's amazingly well done. Some great stuff about MLB too
-
The movie is outstanding. I agree with the post above both MSG shows in 2010 were unreal.
