I came across this while looking for travel tips to Cancun:
Pharmacies
Farmacias will sell you just about anything you want, with a prescription or without one. Most pharmacies are open Monday through Saturday from 8am to 8pm. There are generally one or two 24-hour pharmacies now located in the major resort areas. Pharmacies take turns staying open during off-hours, so if you are in a smaller town and need to buy medicines after normal hours, ask for the farmacia de turno
Does this mean if my back acts up I can walk in and get some painkillers only available by prescription in the states? -
I remember back in the 70's you could go in with a shopping list and get ANYTHING you wanted. I can't begin to tell you how much money was to be made of pharmaceutical amphetamines back then. Amphetamines and barbiturates FTW. Good times.

question answered! -
Yes, Mexicans are usually smart enough to understand what medicine a doctor tells them they need and then go and buy it.
Americans seem to need a piece of paper called a "prescription" in order to do this. Sometimes they are on the same medication for years and years, and still can't remember what it is called and need to go back to the doctor so he can write it down again for them. -
wow, down south in south america thats not true. It works exactly like here (Canada)
-
yea, prescriptions are supposed to stop abuse or misuse of these drugs
they're a good thing if you dont want 100,000 people dying from oxycodone OD's every year -
Yes, it is amazing that there is anyone still alive in Mexico (or a good percentage of the rest of the world, where it works the same way).
-
if you really think abolishing prescriptions in the US would be beneficial you are sorely misguided
personally i would love to be able to pick up whatever medicine i needed without the hassle of prescriptions etc. but prescriptions are about more than my personal inconvenience, they're for the greater good... -
Yes, think of the children (the Doctors children who charges you to write the prescription).
-
lol true true, you make some good points...
just wondering, what would you propose? selling everything OTC? -
You might try sticking you nose outside of America and see how it works.
-
Obv repost

lol
- wasn't born in america.
- wasn't raised in america.
- haven't even lived in america for 5 years.
why don't you tell me how it works outside of america since you're such a worldly individual? -
Well the way it works here is you have a pain you go to the doctor. the doctor says you need some XYZ which you have never heard of. You go to the pharmacy and say I need some XYZ and the guy gives you some. Later a junkie comes in and asks for all the XYZ the guy has and he say GTFO because then his regular customers won't get any and the doctors will start telling people to go someplace else because he is always out of it. Besides the Govt. will notice that the guy sells nothing but XYZ and will say GG License. So the junkies have to go around and buy small quantities from a bunch of pharmacies and can't do that to often before they get recognized and anyways it is cheap so they don't have to rob and steal to afford it. And like I said if they start stocking up and selling a huge amount of XYZ, then the inspector starts going Hmmmmm.... so sometimes you get a 3rd degree from the guy and he wants to call your doctor to make sure but the doctor says ya give him some if it is legit else he usually says GTFO or just the one time but don't come back.

steroids FTW

You can not get anything from a mexican pharmacy. I dare you to go down there and try to score some opiates and/or ampetamines, lol. I go to mexico all the time and I speak perfect Spanish, and I can't even get benzos down there. They will sell you the following with out a hassle: soma, flexeril, tramadol, vaigra (zing!), SSRI, that is pretty much it.

Word Up.
makes a lot of sense to me.
