I know nothing about cars.
If you could drive anyone of these cars for three years - and not worry about gas costs or maintenance costs - which would you pick and why.
Thanks. -
same order as thread title, with the 200 in a very distant last place.
-
the taurus because it obv looks the best

my buddy has one and the sound system is the tits
and X2 on the 200 sucking... it really is brutal -
the Taurus is the #1 fleet model in America... or, it used to be
-
Gotta go ford. Didn't you se fords ad on them not getting bailed out like the others?
-
The Chevy Malibu is an awesome car.
-
Taurus...200...……….........................GM products
-
Nice to see someone here buys american too instead of all that fake jap crap.
-
Buy a Japanese Car
-
Sad but el burro is kinda right fm use to be awesome compared to ford
Shit my s-10 I ran 200 miles without transmission fluid, cracked the case, but now they are weaker than crap. I actually won't buy another vehicle unless its an old car as in pre-90s or they get a self driving car that runs off of solar panels -
i hear the malibu is really good car
-
Fake jap crap? Really? Japanese (and even Korean) cars really outshine American cars lately on quality, for the most part.

And seeing how he doesn't have to worry about gas or maintenance costs, it would seem like this is a work car, or something similar. Probably only has a choice between these American cars. -
I own a 2008 Fusion and I really like it. I had to rent a car when a deer thought it would be cool to run out in the middle of route 3 near Cape Cod and take off my side rear view mirror. I almost missed him :(
My rental was a 2009 Malibu and it was very comfortable and very powerful. I probably would have bought one if I knew at the time... -
My fake jap crap is going on 200k with little work other than the scheduled maintenance. It gets 30 in the city and 38+ on the highway. I never have to worry if it will start or if it will make it through my next road trip.

Definitely get the new Taurus. It looks amazing for a mid-sized car. The Chrysler 200 is redesigned and decent, too.
To anyone that is saying Japanese cars are amazing - Toyota has become the most boring car in the world. I have had a Lexus in the past and have one now, and it's the most boring car ever.
I just bought a 2012 Ford Explorer, and it's the nuts. When I'm driving on long road trips, it syncs to my phone and creates a wifi hotspot. The other people in my car can connect to the internet through it. It makes long trips much more doable. If I'm in Canada with it, I'm totally going to try to connect to pokerstars in it. It also connects to my pandora, stitcher, itunes, etc. If it's an extra few thousand, make sure you get ford mytouch and ford sync. It's well worth it and makes things so much safer. If I'm going somewhere, I just call Ford services and get directions, alternate routes, and traffic reports for the destination. You get three years free of this service.
The innovations in Ford over the last few years should definitely be applauded. -
I'm pretty sure no one said Japanese cars are amazing. I was responding to the moron who said they are crap, which they clearly aren't.

There is no doubt that cars that can connect to your phone are cool, but my phone can become a hotspot without that and google can get me directions, alternate routes, and traffic. My phone cost $200 and your car cost $30k. -
Yeah, Toyota and Honda have been slacking in the style department over recent years, but they still make one high quality product. South Korean cars on the other hand, have been raping the field on styling, with what appears to be a good quality product, but that's still yet to be proven over time.

I dont know what that is -- but I like it.

I've got a 4door civic, I actually think they're pretty decent looking for an economy car. Got 40mpg on the drive to Texas, with every inch of space filled too. -
Fiddling with your phone while driving, especially trying to find alternate routes, is pretty unsafe. With everything I do with my phone, I'm able to just use voice commands and I don't have to take my eyes off the road for a second. Don't think it's a 29.8k difference, but considering that options package cost like 1500 bucks and included like 50 features, pretty sure I spent 30 bucks on this whereas your phone costs $200.

Thanks all - went with the Taurus

Ahhh, to be young again. I remember when I used to think this way. Hell, I still have an American-made car. You can bet your ass that my next purchase will likely be a foreign car, though. My car has close to 130k miles and I don't anticipate it lasting a whole lot longer. I love what Hyundai has been doing over the last few years, so I might end up going with one of those if I can get something at a good price. If not, I'll probably go for an older Accord/Civic as those seem to last forever.

hate chrysler's shit. made the mistake of getting a town and country. A/C never works, brakes wore through already. hopefully the transmission doesnt go. fucking pile of shit. also had a 2010 charger as a rental for a few weeks. it drives like it was a 25 year old.
whereas my 95 camry got up to 215k miles, just replaced it with a avalon thats 2 years newer.. hoping to get to 250k. -
Edited By: yomamanodros Oct 5th, 2011 at 10:19 PMGuess what, my phone takes voice commands as well and came with a navigation dock for the car. I can set up the wifi hotspot, ask for directions, and control my stereo without taking my eyes off the road.Originally Posted by Wein

I'm pretty sure cool options like the ones you describe aren't going to make your car more reliable. They are nice and convenient but in the end, they are just flashy sales points. It is way more important that the car runs well and lasts. If you have to put an extra $2000 a year into your cars maintenance, I still come out way ahead.
Maybe the American cars that are being made now will buck the trend and end up lasting as long as Japanese cars have been lasting for decades. I really hope they do.
