  1. With 10 minutes left in the third quarter (so only two minutes after halftime), how often will BOTH NBA teams have scored 82 points or more?

I'm wondering because at the Dodger game tonight someone said the Lakers score was 84-82 with 10 minutes left, and my idiot friend asked if it was in the third or fourth quarter, and I called him a moron for not knowing that it was obviously in the fourth quarter with a score that high and 10 minutes left, and he tells me that I know nothing about basketball and that it's common to have a score similar to that (84-82) two minutes after halftime. I used to follow basketball closely, but not in several years. I'm 99% sure, though, that it's extremely rare for both teams to have scored 82+ two minutes after halftime. I've tried to research this, but it's seeming impossible. My guess is that it happens once or twice a decade, if that. If anyone knows of a way that I could definitively research this stat, if even for just this past season, it would be much appreciated.

I disagree, he is wrong for calling you an idiot, but it is feasable that this game could have been in the 3rd quarter, because the Lakers and Nuggets are capable of putting up big numbers...

Just the fact that the Nuggets have had so much rest would make me doubt that they would blow the roof off with a high scoring game in game 1 though...

Edit: now that I think about it "with 10 minutes left" your friend is an idiot and so am I..... No way with 10 minutes left in the 3rd the game would be this high scoring.. Sorry.

No one reads OT this early in the morning. When you realize you're a moron, just delete your post, no need to include an "edit".

More proof that my friend is an idiot.

Also, does anyone think it's happened in even one NBA game this season?

The highest aggregate score in an NBA match is 370, when the Detroit Pistons (186) beat the Denver Nuggets (184) at Denver, Colorado, USA, on December 13, 1983. Overtime was played after a 145-145 tie in regulation time. score was 74-74 at half.

Most I can remember lakers scoring in a half this year is 70 against phx.
  11. pretty much only possible if 2 of phoenix, golden state, and denver are playing. Or if you're in the 1980s.

This would probably be one of the most likely to get there, although they would both need a quick start to the second half.
