I fully expect the young players of Kentucky to thrive off of the emotion of the game and crowd. Kentucky is ultra talented with freshman and sophomores. Early in the season playing time will not be an issue as the games have just started. (this will change imo).

Carolina's starting 5 and Kentucky starting 5 are pretty much a wash talent wise.

Kentucky has more talent on the bench though.

I think Roy is a better in game coach than Calipari though.

I think Anthony Davis will be a monster in this game and all season and lead Kentucky to a close win at home.

    79-75 Kentucky

    but........

with all the young talent Kentucky has i expect them to have some internal strife as the season progresses. Some of these sophomore and freshmen are used to playing most of the game and now are relagated to spot duty.

This is ok if the players were juniors and seniors as often younger people will defer to them or the older people will accept their role with a better attitude.

I expect Kentucky to lose a few games they should not in the second half of the season. They will get a number 2 seed and lose in the Elite 8 or Sweet 16.

If Calipari can work magic and mesh this talent than i do expect Kentucky to make the Final Four again.

If the 2 meet up in the tourney i expect the result to be reversed.

Tell you what... You want to lay even money on any amount that Kentucky will be less than a #1 seed? There is no question, UK will be right at the top the entire year.

I understand the logic you're using..."star talent can't play together...egos...yada yada." But the reality is that 1) Cal has a track record of handling this exact situation with extreme precision, 2) these guys all committed / returned KNOWING the monster team that would be around this year, and 3) have spent every minute since last june on campus together playing pickup games with NBA All-stars. The camaraderie is already there.

I would legitimately be more surprised if UK ended up a 2 seed and bounced before the FF than if they went completely undefeated.

UNC barely beat KY at UNC and that was because Zeller shot 100 free throws. It was ridicilous. This Kentucky team is going to be leaps and bounds better then the team you saw last season talent wise. We now have a very long Anthony Davis who will be able to put a ton of pressure on Zellers shots. We have Gilchrist who is probably going to be my favorite player. Watching him and Barnes go at it is going to be unreal. The best matchup of the season by far. UNC is tough and it will be a good game. +1 on Tennessee being really bad for awhile.

I read a cool story about Barnes/Gilchrist a couple years ago.

During Barnes' Senior year/Gilchrist's Junior year they attended the same summer camp (it was speculated that Barnes was intentionally seeking Gilchrist out). Barnes immediately went to the guy that runs the camp and told him to get him up against Gilchrist (they were like #1/2 or #1/3 small forward prospects at the time).

They went at it a bunch that summer and had some epic matchups according to what I read, with Gilchrist getting the best of it.
  4. fwiw I agree with a lot of your points Pluv, and I think it will be close with a ton of lead changes and will come down to foul shooting and efficiency in the final minutes. But of course I gotta pull for my Heels.

    88-85 UNC
  5. Hi all,

Today we talk about the top 15 players in college basketball. These will not be positioned orientated, but rather just the 15 best. I don’t include any freshmen on this list

    Jared Sullinger: (ohio state)

This guy is quite frankly a load in the middle. Not many players have his size and ability on the offensive end. He can be relentless at times and I love how he announced right away he is coming back. This leads me to believe he has a good head on his shoulders. He averaged 17 and 10 last year. Might be a 20,12 guy this year.

    Josh Smith (UCLA)

If this dude could control his eating habits than he might be the best big man in college basketball. He has the best hands of any big man I have seen in years and has a soft touch around the rim. He only played about 20 minutes a game last year (11pts,6reb) because of conditioning and foul trouble. He is starting the season out of shape again but will be a monster by mid year imo. I see him averaging about 15,10 in 25 minutes of play this year.

    Tu Holloway (Xavier)

He might be my favorite player in all of college basketball. A stat sheet filler at its finest (20,5,5). He can penetrate the lane at will and when his outside shot is on he is the most dangerous player in all of college hoops imo. If Xavier has a late lead then its good night Irene as he hits damn near 90% from the free throw line. I expect him to put up similar numbers this year for a very dangerous Xavier team.

    Jeremy Lamb (Uconn)

If the big dance was not enough to convince you of Lambs greatness last year than his performance on the international floor this summer should of done the trick. He numbers were slight last year compared to his impact. (11,4). I fully expect those to increase to around 17 and 7 or more this year especially since Kemba is gone.

    Harrison Barnes (UNC)

He had some rough expectations last year, but was starting to fulfill them in the 2nd half of the season. He showed a lot of poise in late season wins and he might be the best player in all of college hoops. I expect him to average around 18 and 8 while improving his playmaking and defense.

    Jordan Taylor (Wisconsin)

This dude single handidly willed Wisconsin to more than a few wins last year. Remember the Ohio State game anyone? He averaged 18,4,5 last year and will most likely match that output again. He plays tough defense and every coach wishes they had a leader like him on the floor. Bo Ryan always has smart, level headed guards play for him and Jordan is no different

    John Jenkins (Vanderbilt)

I can only think of one person that has smooth of stroke as Jenkins…you know the type where they seem like layins for these guys(CJ Wilcox…you will know that name well the next few years)…….He will average around 20 points yet again and lead a senior laden Vandy team this year. Jenkins is very smart with the ball and rarely forces bad shots An elite player.

    Perry Jones (Baylor)

Made the very smart decision to come back and rip shit up for his sophomore campaign. Some peeps think he underperformed last year but putting up 14 and 7 with a slim frame is good stuff for a freshman. He should improve both his shot blocking and passing skills more this year to go along with a bigger frame(hopefully). I can easily see numbers in the 17 pts, 9 rebs, 2 ass, 2 blk range.

    Trevor Mbawke (Minnesota)

This guy is a chiseled greek god. No one will push him around…no one. He has an NBA body and has been thru a lot during his career and has matured mentally as a result. He should be a 18pts, 12 reb guy this year and give Sullinger a run for his money as the best big man in the Big 10. If he was a couple inches taller is would have superstar capability

    Terrence Jones (Kentucky)

This camper is childish and immature(yes, I have a bias against him) …and yet he was still a beast last year. I sure hope Calipari is right about him growing over the summer. He could be a 20,10 candidate this year if he keeps his head on str8. Cause if he doesn’t than Kentucky has a boatload of young uns who might pry into some of his PT. Nevertheless…I expect him to be a monster as his talent is enormous.

    Honroable Mention

Draymond Green(Mich ST): Another stat sheet filler who plays with big heart

Ashton Gibbs (Pittsburgh) : A pure scorer who happens to also be a great shooter

Tyler Zeller (N. Carolina ) : Seven footers with skill don’t come around very often.

Orlando Johnson(UCSB) : The best mid or low major player in the land

Khris Middleton(A & M) : Will be quiet but when you look at boxscore…it reads 16, 6, 3 almost every night.

    Meanderings

Anthony Grant might be the next name to go to a big player…enjoy him while you can Bama.

There is a bunch of hoopla on pro announcers doing college games. I don’t want the dead dude from Ghost callilng any college games.

Continuing on the above…would love an inside the NCAA program with Smith, EJ and Barkley.

Rex Walters has done wonders to improve the San Francisco program. He still has a young team…NCAA bubble team next year…Rex is gone in 3 years as well.

I might take my recruiting feelings on Beilein back after he nabbed McGary last week….that is if he hits a few more big recruits. Well done Michigan.

This just in…..Josh Smith to do no pay ads for Fatburger next year…..

Give this man a sixth year please…….. http://msn.foxsports.com/collegebask...or-year-110311

Over/Under on how many games before Pat Summit yells at her players for running the exact play she had devised in the previous timeout.

    30 great tourney moments… http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/29618078/ns/sports-college_basketball/displaymode/1247/?beginSlide=1

]I stand by my St. Johns wont be .500 statement…William and Mary is already giving them a scare

Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Clarkson,…………………

  12. Don't forget about Willy Buford. Of course Sully deserves all the hype, but Buford will also be a next level high performer (If there is a next level).

Yah I'm not sure what the LOL is about...if there was any complaint I had with the list, it was that Tyler Zeller wasn't in top 15.

But I don't know who I'd replace, either...Josh Smith most likely.

    Ahh...my bad, misread.

I'd still have Zeller ahead of Josh Smith. I love Smith, but my impact guys have to be on the floor longer than 4 minutes at a time.

I do like that you gave Mbakwe a shout...guy KILLS Illinois on O boards every time they play.
  17. Kris Joseph (Syracuse)- A senior at 6'7 he possesses very good length on the defensive end to guard multiple players. He can do a little bit of everything and will need to elevate his game if Syracuse if going to make a deep run in March. Joseph is a prime candidate for Big East POY and is in line to average around 17,7, and 3.

  20. have a standing bet michigan will make a sweet 16 before msu makes a final four... thinking my side is more likely this year.
  21. Don't think Belmont can ever get a #6 seed and I think A&M and Texas too high and I like North Texas over Denver in SB conf. That's just what I see at first glance.

  22. GMU>VCU out of the CAA? O RLY?

and Coastal or Liberty will beat UNC-Asheville, too.

  23. Big Memphis homer here..

Love your prediction, but unless our big men can learn how to stay out of foul trouble..it will be scary. Not very deep when it comes to big men.

Michigan will be a good test.
  24. no way missouri is a 3-seed the standard 7-10 is in order as usual.
  25. I cant see Memphis being a #1 seed I think it will be winner of big east. Great job as usual Pluv love seeing these posts

Obviously I think Carolina wins but I do like that you dont have UK as your champ
  26. and you're picking OSU to win it all because...?
