top 25 team that isnt ranked in top 25...seems like they are under rated but maybe I am too close...

If Josh Smith is in good shape by the end of the year (which he wont be). Than they can make a run in the tourney. UCLA final 4 hopes live and die with him. W/O him they will be a 7-11 seed regardless of the freshmen.

I can't be convinced a team that has Larry Drew runnuing it will make a deep run. Great job as always Pluv im real excited for the season it appears as though any number of teams could emerge and be contenders. There could be a special player or two out there to emerge as a beast and get on the radar. I heard and interesting tidbit on CBS podcast that Cody Zeller wasnt on their top 100 last yr and is the #1 this yr. Teams like Baylor/Mizzou/Kansas and UNC intrigue me becuase they have some pieces in place from last year but turned over alot at the top. It will interesting to see if they can get back to a top tier level again with a bit more experience and adding a few puzzle pieces. Alot of Hype on Miami as a sleepr im hoping that doesnt bite em in the ass as they get more attention i think they are a quality squad and probably will win a couple in march

PJ Hairston is going to go OFF this year. That is all.

You have more confidence in Illinois than I do, PLuv.
I do like those 2 guards and Abrams...but Leonard was a lot better than you give him credit for. -
Also, Illinois does not have the best backcourt or returning backcourt in the Big Ten.
I'll take:
Indiana's with Hulls/Ferrell and Oladipo
MSU's with Appling and freshman Gary Harris
Michigan's with Burke and Hardaway Jr.
etc -

I do like our 3-guard combo of DJ/Abrams/Paul best maybe...but definitely not the 2 alone. -
I think its only natural if ku takes a step back. That team had no business in making the title game but self is just a beast of a coach. Dude developes bigs like no other. Self knows we're no good right now and lack toughness but his method should have them peaking come tourney time as is his forte. We'll see what this teams peak can produce.
-
I'm a huge homer but I think this KU team hangs around the top 5 all year. Only thing I worry about is how well Withey looks without Robinson down low. Is he still as effective of a player without the threat of Robinson. Does he transition to being the guy or was he more of a product of being overlooked because teams had to focus on Robinson. They need somebody who can get to the basket like Taylor could. At the same time though Taylor turned the ball over a ton so maybe the lack of a guard who can get to the bucket the way he did is countered by less turnovers. I'm pretty sure Elijah Johnson will be efficient enough anyway. He was better than Taylor over the last 15 games anyway. Taylor couldn't hit the broad side of a barn towards the end of the year and Johnson played very well over that dame time period. Oklahoma State is a team that has a good chance to turn it around this year. Marcus Smart and LeBryan Nash have potential to carry that team towards the top of the Big 12. Texas should be a lot better with all those young players another year older. Baylor has a lot of players coming back and they added Isaiah Austin so they'll compete. Kansas State brings their whole team back basically. They'll be good. I'd give the nod to Kansas as favorites to win the league but all those other teams are going to compete. Outside of the league I like Louisville. If I had to pick an NC favorite right now it's Louisville. Not sure how they can be considered overrated.

Im a big fan or Releford as well I think this KU squad come february will be a togh one to beat especially if whitey is much better offensiveley as Self says he is

Pluv - what's your take on St. Johns and Iona?
-
Pluv- would you agree that overall it's a down year talent wise for college basketball?
Edited By: BigStack Husker Oct 22nd, 2012 at 06:12 PM
I believe it will be a lot better talent wise in 2013. -
Yes, because a lot of sophomores came back last year because of the NBA lockout. I think that was the biggest reason why Kentucky was so dominant and won it all. The lockout brought back Jones and Lamb. They weren't the best players but they brought experience that their freshman didn't have. Those freshman mistakes were covered up by experienced players.
-
I'm not Pluv but i definately would say without a doubt its a down yr talent wise just due to the fact last year was so stocked caused by the lockout. Add in the fact the probably top recruit who was supposed to be in this class went a year early to Uconn and is now in the NBA. That being said why i love college so much theres always a story to find out there from a place you never expected. Who will be this season's South Dakota st

IU ranked #1...down year for college hoops
-
lololol
Illinois not even sniffing around the top 25 this year, just as they aren't a top 25 program.
Indiana has the talent, the experience, the youth/swagger and as Seth Davis said: "Their depth has depth."
It's going to be a fun year. -
he's really good but he's really really dumb

also nick johnson will still destroy him -
Hey JRoth, you went to the rams game yesterday didn't you? You said you would be wearing a silver Aaron Rodgers jersey. I was at the game and I saw a guy wearing that jersey. I thought it might be you. Were you sitting around one of the corners? I think it would have been the southeast corner of the end zone. I saw a guy walking into the tunnel with about a minute left in the first half with that jersey on. I didn't even think about it then a second later I remembered you said you were going to the game and wearing that jersey. Figured there is a good chance that was probably you. Brown haired guy, looked tall. I think he was with a guy in dark blue rams t shirt.

I actually didn't end up going to the game...so I guess it's a good thing you didn't introduce yourself as XXEDPXX from PocketFives Off Topic forum lol.
I was going to go...but we had a family get together in Springfield on Saturday...I had to drive my wife and little one back to Quincy, then would have had to drive down to STL on Sunday morning...and drive back Sunday night.
I just had my brother-in-law sell them for face value, and figured we'd go to a game later in the year.
How was the game? ARodg is pretty amazing... -
Good post PLuv, I've been slacking on my CBB research in the offseason so I don't know much about this season.
How is Carolina looking after losing so much talent? If McAdoo and Hairston can take big leaps forward do you guys think they are capable of a sweet-16 run? I think Reggie Bullock will step up this year and lead the offense, he was really turning it on late last season.
Anyway thanks for the post, always fun reading these. -
It was a good game. St Louis stayed in it but you never really felt like they were actually gonna pull it out or had any real chance. Rodgers destroyed them. Felt like they converted 70% of their third downs. I wouldn't have introduced myself anyway. I'm a pretty introverted person. Pretty sure I've played poker at Lumiere with MUPP before and never said anything to him. I don't think he would recognize my sn anyway.

I'm bias but, yes, Carolina can make a sweet 16 run for sure. McAdoo looked so good at the end of the year. We just have to rely so much more on perimeter shooting than last year with a rookie big man down low with McAdoo and Hairston/Bullock/Strickland on the outside. A lot will depend on how Paige does as a rookie point guard but he looks to be pretty good from what I've seen. Not a team that will win it all by any means, but definitely capable of sweet 16 and a chance to very good the year after this one.

Haven't heard or seen anything about this kid until just now. Class of 2013. He's only been playing for about a year.
Edited By: Willywoo Oct 22nd, 2012 at 10:40 PM
Looks pretty good. Maybe Kansas is the front runner for him, but too early to tell. -
Super busy at work guys but will respond later.
Thanks for positive comments guys -
i know people who went to HS with him and i know people who played basketball with him. he is really dumb.
-
I can comment on i IQ
However, when you think of athleticism. He reminds me a little of Nate Robinson
Lavin has not proven himself to be a good in game coach anywhere. With a young team thats a problem. .500 season is my best guess. He has had some turnover on his team as well. I am rooting for him to succeed but i would not get my hopes up.
I saw an NBA pre season stat line the other night...it read something like this.
MP: 20
ASS: 7
Name: Scott Machado
I think that will sum up Iona this year. They will have some talent with Momo and Armand...but i dont expect much. Maybe a CBI visit and 2nd in their conference at best. Loyola MD with take the MAAC
Yes, and the freshmen talent in 2013 will be much deeper. You had many players returning last year on Kentucky, Ohio State and UNC to name a few. They are gone now. There are few true freshman phenoms this year. Maybe 2 or 3. Therefore many will stay for their sophomore year..combine that will a great 2013 class and next year should be fun.Originally Posted by BigStack Husker

Carolina lost a ton. Probably more than anyone outside of UK. McAdoo has got high praise...but honestly i was not super impressed by him when he did play last year. I think UNC will be good as usual with all the talent they have. I just dont see any eyepoppers on their team. No distributor like a Marshall as well. If i had to guess right now i would say a 6 or 7 seed. -
Indiana is gonna be really tough with Maurice Creek returning from his injury. Louisville is not overrated, but I can def see them making an early exit. They aren't an extremely talented team, but they are great defensively. Kentucky will struggle early in the year. It's hard to predict how good they will be and all depends on the development of Noel. Alex Poythress will be Kentucky's best player starting off the season. He is the truth.

cheap laughs gonna cheap laughs, you're better than this. I have a feeling Mizzou is here only so you could use that line.

oh yeah, Mizzou Junior Guard Phil Pressey voted pre-season SEC POY. Dixon now has a new chip on his shoulder, like last year not being a starter, he'll be first team SEC for the season.
nice thread, good stuff OP.
