  1. With Manny turning down the 2 yr / $41+ million contract because the structure of the deal being $10 mil this year, $10 mil next year and the rest differed over the following 3 years, but him and his agent saying they would take 2 yr/$45mil, how do you feel about sports figures and their salaries:

    A. Supply and Demand - If the money is there, let them go after it.

    B. Respect the ecoonomy and the hard working families that are struggling to keep their homes and feed their families. Give 25% of your salary to a mortgage assistance fund or something of the sort to help the people who buy the tickets to watch the games.

    C. All players should get $1 million per year and tickets should be $5 for any seat, beers $2, Hot Dogs $1 and owners profit share by giving 10% of the gate to the local communities.

    D. Your suggestion......
  2. just lol @ c
  3. x
  4. Only way this stops is if the public quits paying to see these guys play.
  5. I could never understand how this is sustainable. The total payroll of professional teams must be mind bottling yet the owner's equity seems to keep growing as well. Hard to argue with the system if everyone continues to make money.
  6. D. Let the fans spend one complete season with their families, helping out with community/youth athletic programs etc., etc. Anything but attending games.

I think this would provide a major wake-up call to athletes, who are so accustomed to being treated like royalty they've completely lost touch with the financial situation of the rest of the universe.

Most of these pampered over-paid pricks like Manny could use a big dose of reality imo and maybe playing a season in front of completely empty stadiums would bring that home to them in a way that nothing else could. (But probably not.)
  7. This post is so on point! I think Beer league softballers and weekend warriors need to get agents and rake in as much as these over paid pros! Who do they think they are, anyone could play sports "Professionally"!
  8. if you say anything but A, you're retarded
  9. the dodgers will make more money off manny than what they pay him...so I guess I understand where he's coming from since he's one of the greatest right handed hitters ever
  10. I wouldn't mind C!

  11. First off Manny & boras are fugging up but the answer is

    A:supply demand

Lets say dodgers have avg attendance around 42k and $25 avg ticket price. Thats $85 million b4 concessions, merchandise, tv, sponsorship and etc money. The owners get their money even with that id say half of all sports owners are in it for the pride and bragging rights of owning a franchise .

Simple as that. I refuse to go to a live event unless the tickets are free, because parking is so freaking ridiculous. 10+ dollars just to PARK to actually GO to the event, wtf is that.
  17. they work hard, whats the problem.
  18. The answer is plain and simple.... A. supply and demand!!!

the day the owners start losing money is the day the players quit getting raises.

few years back tom hicks (Dallas stars) lost a ton of money in the stock market, the next season he slashed the Star's payroll by 40%..... (same year he got rid of A-rod and Chan Ho Park)
  19. As soon as someone shows me they can hit a big league fastball and a big league slider 450 feet I'll listen to their argument that athletes are overpaid.
  20. The answer is A. If we continue to go they will continue to get paid.

The major sports are feeling the pinch from the economy probably for the first time. I would guess that most pro athletes are out of touch with the economy of an average family and as a whole.
  21. Why pick out professional athletes? Let's ask the same question about anyone and everyone who works.
  22. I was laughing at what Greg Norman said the other day. He said (verbatim here) that Professional golfers need to cut back on their salary due to the global economic situation.

Ummm Greg, golfers don't earn a salary! They have to actually go out and perform to earn their money unless their are Tiger Woods who gets money from Nike and Mickelson who gets money from KPMG. They dont have the benefit of sitting on their asses on the bench and still make tons of money.

Think next time you open your mouth Greg, think about what you are saying! It's the sponsor's of each golf tournament that is responsible for what the prize fund is each tournament!!!

Now, do I think NFL, NBA, MBL and such are paid too much? YES! Like someone said earlier in this thread, if people would stop paying such ridiculous prices for seats to watch a ball game, then salaries would decrease.

Those of you in NY for the Yankees new stadium, enjoy forking out even more to watch one game! Same goes for the Redskins fan with their recent signings!
  23. He said they had to cut back prizepools like they are doing on the european and asian tours.

    toolshed.
  24. The only way to have an answer that is NOT A is you have issues of envy.

pretty sure i've never had less than $20 in last half dozen yrs
  26. How could you even type out B and C?
  27. i dont why anyone thinks their overpaid. their owner's can afford to pay them and they help make money for the team. simple as that.
  28. Why don't we just go the whole nine yards and nationalize sports leagues? Imagine how much more investigation Congress could do on steroids if they owned the records! Righteous indignation would fly off the charts!
  29. A obv. how is this even a question?
