  1. I bought my 8 year son a PS3 for Christmas. I attempted to use the wireless connection, and at first ran into trouble because I couldn't remember what the WEP encryption code was. I figured that out, and I think I now make a connection, however, the system is timing out when it tries to obtain an IP address. I tried to enter the IP address manually, but that didn't help either.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

try that site looks like it is answering the same ? you asked not sure what is really going on I didn't have any problem, there is another site I used but I can't find it right now will try to find it.
  3. Wep keys must be exactly the same. You will not be issued an IP address if you have not supplied the correct wep key. I would suggest resetting your router to default; connect the ps3 without wep; then re-enable your wep after successful non wep connect.

This. and make sure you've got the right password to the network you are connecting too.
  5. Change to WPA, either personal or not. I was having issues with my wireless connection using WEP and then after reconfiguring my network to WPA with TKIP I have had 0 issues with my wireless connections for my ps3 or my wii, both of which I had issues when attempting system updates. For the entire time I had them set up I was under the impression that WEP was newer and more secure, after doing some reading up I've found out that WPA is in fact the newer and more secure coding for wireless networks.
